KCSL | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT | 3

LETTER FROM THE CEO & BOARD CHAIR Dear KCSL Friends and Colleagues, In 2019, we dreamed BIG. We dreamed about what the world could be like for the children and families we serve. Our dream to mitigate Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and build resiliency for children and their parents was achieved. The business sector in Kansas began to dream with us and think differently about how they can impact worker productivity through FamilyFriendly Workplace policies. We dared to dream and still BELIEVE more than ever in our ability to ensure children are raised in loving and supportive environments. WE BELIEVE IN WHAT WE DO It is clear we BELIEVE in building resilience and empowering our children, youth and families. When we show our families that we believe in them, they begin to BELIEVE in themselves. Our children, youth and parents start to find hope and pave a different path towards positive outcomes. They begin to BELIEVE they can contribute to their community with the knowledge and skills they’ve developed with us that will not only benefit their own family, but also their friends, co-workers and society at large. 4

As you look through our Annual Report, our accomplishments affirm our ability to affect the children, families and communities we work with every day. We continued our commitment to serve as the child abuse prevention leader in Kansas, and took advantage of every opportunity to bring our expertise to families, professionals and legislators throughout the state. WE BELIEVE IN WHAT WE DO AT KCSL. And because of that belief and loyal supporters like you, together we continue to make a difference. THANK YOU FRIENDS! We would like to express our deepest thanks to all of our staff, volunteers, donors and partners who BELIEVE in our mission, to protect and promote the well-being of children. Also, a special thank you is due to our government partners (Kansas Children's Cabinet & Trust Fund; Kansas Dept. for Children & Families; Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment; Kansas State Dept. of Education; Kansas Office of the Attorney General), the foundations, United Ways, and sponsors who ensure that we continue to be successful in preventing child abuse, strengthening families and empowering parents and youth every year. Words alone cannot do justice to the appreciation we feel every day for your overwhelming support and generosity. You make everything possible. It was another good year at KCSL. Thank you to everyone for being a part of it. Sincerely,

Gail Cozadd CEO

Zachary Schultz Board Chair
