A LETTER FROM

THE PRESIDENT/CEO & CHAIRWOMAN OF THE BOARD Dear Friends, Each day we see KCSL’s mission work unfold before our eyes like a kaleidoscope of color, shapes and quiet wonder that create Ordinary Miracles for those whose lives we touch. Not just those who benefit directly from our services that prevent child abuse, strengthen families and empower parents and youth, but also those who choose to volunteer, donate and govern the work we do. Unless gently turned to capture the light, the shards of glass that create beautiful color and design within a kaleidoscope hide from our view. It is as well for many families when we first meet them at KCSL. Their strength and beauty is difficult to see and their futures seem to lack purpose and shape. There is profound and indescribable beauty in watching a shattered life transform into a framework filled with hope and joy. These gentle turns of a family’s kaleidoscope by a quiet hero at KCSL helps: •     a mother and father begin to understand not just the responsibility but also the joy that comes from the gift of a child’s birth; •     a teen find the courage and internal strength to love his parents as they are but not let their histories of struggle define his future; •     a child whose smile alone in the classroom tells you for certain that learning and love abound in her life; and •     a volunteer witness first-hand the impact of their compassion and commitment on what had seemed a hopeless situation.

4

Our historical experience proves our ability to help families succeed! KCSL is determined now and into the future to create and enhance shapes and patterns of our services for families that improve health, education and economic outcomes for families and communities. All Kansans will realize the benefits of a better picture each time we help a family achieve their goals.

40,000 children & families SERVED

Within our 2017 Annual Report, we share and celebrate the success of our work with you. We are grateful for the many ways in which you helped create wonderful worlds for children, families and Kansas communities. Throughout 2018, we will build upon these To protect and promote successful platforms and enter our 125th year of a mission to the well-being of protect and promote the well-being of children with energy and children. confidence.

Our Mission

We embrace the wisdom, leadership and support each of you as volunteers, donors, partners and staff brought to our success in 2017. Stay with us on our journey as together we gently turn the kaleidoscope for nearly 40,000 children and families each year in Kansas into amazing graphics of hope, love, inspiration and success. The view will be beautiful and rewarding! Thank you for all the ways in which you contribute to the success of our mission of service to children and families.
