KCSL Histor y Kansas Children’s Service League has its roots in two parent agencies: the Kansas Children’s Home Society founded in Topeka and the Christian Service League founded in Wichita. Both agencies concentrated on finding permanent homes for orphaned or abandoned children and foster homes for children whose parents were temporarily unable to care for them. The two agencies merged in 1926 to continue its tradition of providing direct services to children and families and advocating for policy changes to help families and children.

918 S Kansas Ave The Kansas Children’s Home Society (KCHS) purchased the lots at 918 and 920 Kansas Ave for a new office building in 1913 at the cost of $13,000. In 1914, construction began on the new building, and in 1915 KCHS moved in. The first floor was rented to a Dodge automobile dealership and garage, while KCHS occupied a portion of the second floor.
