IN-HOUSE PRODUCT DESIGN

‘The design process always starts with 3 strong criteria’.

Inspired by today’s and tomorrow’s trends, our designers design furniture and home decoration for the Eleonora and By-Boo collections. Our designers unleash their vision on current and upcoming trends and create their own interpretation that fits within the vision of Dutch Interior. Each brand has its own identity and evolves every collection, season after season.

One of our product designers is Matthijs Bruinenberg.

He designs furniture for Eleonora; the Thomas series is one of those series. Let’s find out more about it.

From what need was series Thomas designed?

“We felt the need to bring a series of cabinets in a light colour, inspired by Scandinavian design and materials.

A light shade of oak finished naturally, almost invisibly, to leave the colour of the wood at its best.”

The design process “For me, the design process always starts with determining 3 strong criteria that are essential for the product. Then I make sketches that I elaborate on in a 3D model to determine proportions and dimensions in detail. I usually work out several concepts of a product to make a final choice.”

The 3 strong criteria for Thomas 1. A wall hanging option for the TV cabinet.

2. A completely handle-less design to highlight the pattern and direction of the oak veneer.

3. An all-encompassing design that can be easily translated to different types of cabinets without losing unity.

What makes Thomas stand out?

“A striking detail are the oak-veneered angled edges on the drawer fronts. Besides having a function as a drawer handle, they create depth in the furniture and emphasise the clean lines of the piece. With the TV cabinet, you have the choice of mounting it on the wall, for a floating look, or putting it down on legs. Both options are included as standard, so you can change your mind at the last minute.”

by Dutch Interior What is an interior without a good sofa? And so in 2016 we started Sevn; the brand to put together your dream sofa and armchair yourself. In our own atelier we continuously design new models and try new fabrics. Always looking for the perfect balance between comfort and design. One of the special features of Sevn is that almost every sofa is modular. This means that both retailers and consumers can compose their dream sofa in the desired set up, colour, fabric and leg. Complete your dream sofa with matching accessories such as a headrest, loose armrest or decorative cushions for that extra bit of comfort and design.

Sevn focuses mainly on the Dutch market.
