DUT Alumni Mentorship Programme Launched

The Advancement and Alumni Relations Office is pleased to announce the establishment and launch of the DUT Alumni Mentorship Programme, where selected DUT alumni will be afforded the opportunity to contribute towards the next generation of leaders by mentoring current DUT students.

Awebinar to commemorate the launch was attended by alumni and pre-alumni and outlined the programme and the implementation plan, and allowed for questions.

The office has collated a database of alumni who have volunteered their service as mentors as well as prealumni who are keen to be mentored. The matching of mentor to mentee is underway and the office will be proceeding with the mentorship from March 2021.

The necessity for such a programme requires no motivation since the benefits and positive outcomes of mentorship are well-documented. Mentorship can serve as a key developmental aspect of an individual, both personally and professionally, and can contribute to both emotional and intellectual development. It can also serve as a networking gateway that can potentially introduce the mentee to a variety of career opportunities through introductions made by the mentor. It thus provides many opportunities for growth, positive development, shaping of an appropriate mindset for success and the overall improvement of attitudes and behaviour in the mentee.

Mentors also benefit from this experience as they can also sharpen their leadership, life-coaching and guidance skills.
