Under the patronage and in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain First Festival 2026 unfolded as a vibrant celebration of education, national identity and youthful ambition. Bringing together students, educators and institutions from across the Kingdom, the event reflected Bahrain’s longstanding commitment to knowledge as a cornerstone of progress and cultural vitality.

Education has long stood at the heart of Bahrain’s national story, shaping generations and guiding the Kingdom’s transformation into a modern knowledge-driven society. The Bahrain First Festival 2026 captured this spirit in a single moment of collective celebration, bringing together students, educators and families in an event that highlighted both the country’s educational achievements and its aspirations for the future.
Organized by the Ministry of Education and held at the Bahrain National Stadium, the festival served as a platform to showcase the Kingdom’s educational ecosystem and the role it plays in national development. The presence of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa underscored the importance placed on learning and intellectual growth within Bahrain’s broader vision for progress.
In his remarks during the event, His Majesty commended Bahrain’s educators and institutions for their contributions to advancing knowledge and nurturing talent. He emphasized that education remains a fundamental pillar of national development and a vital force in shaping the country’s future.
The festival itself unfolded as a dynamic showcase of creativity, innovation and achievement. Exhibitions, performances and
interactive displays highlighted the diversity of Bahrain’s educational landscape, from early learning initiatives to advanced academic programs. Students presented projects that reflected both curiosity and confidence, demonstrating how the next generation is already engaging with ideas that will define the future.
Across the festival grounds, visitors encountered displays that illustrated Bahrain’s educational journey. Institutions presented initiatives designed to enhance learning experiences and equip students with the skills needed for a rapidly evolving world. Technology, creativity and cultural awareness intersected in these presentations, offering a glimpse into how education in the Kingdom continues to evolve.
Beyond the exhibits, the festival atmosphere carried a strong sense of national pride. Schools and universities participated with performances and demonstrations that reflected the cultural richness of Bahraini society. Music, storytelling and artistic expression became part of the broader narrative of learning, reminding visitors that education extends beyond textbooks to include the cultivation of identity, imagination and community.
The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on Bahrain’s deep educational heritage.

His Majesty highlighted the Kingdom’s longstanding commitment to learning, noting the historic milestones that have shaped its educational system. Among these is the approaching centenary of formal government education for girls and the establishment of Bahrain’s first girls’ school in 1928, a landmark that underscored the nation’s early dedication to expanding opportunities through education.
Such milestones form the foundation upon which Bahrain continues to build. Over the decades, the Kingdom has expanded its educational infrastructure while fostering a culture that values knowledge and intellectual inquiry. The Bahrain First Festival reflected this journey, celebrating not only what has been achieved but also the possibilities that lie ahead.
For students in particular, the festival offered a moment of inspiration. Standing among peers, teachers and national leaders, they experienced firsthand the significance of their role in shaping Bahrain’s future. The event reinforced the idea that education is not merely a pathway to personal success but a collective investment in the nation’s prosperity.
As the festival concluded, its message remained clear. Education continues to be one of Bahrain’s most powerful engines of development, linking heritage with innovation and tradition with ambition. By celebrating the achievements of educators and students alike, the Bahrain First Festival 2026 reaffirmed the Kingdom’s enduring belief that knowledge is the foundation upon which its future will be built.

03 Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa’s six-decade rule guided Bahrain’s transformation
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa announced the designation of 2026 as the Year of Isa Al Kabeer, honoring Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa and his enduring influence on the nation’s development. The initiative invites Bahrain to revisit a defining chapter in its history and reflect on the leadership that helped shape the foundations of the modern Kingdom.
In 2026, Bahrain is marking a historic milestone through the designation of the Year of Isa Al Kabeer, a national initiative that celebrates the life and legacy of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Kingdom’s modern history. The year-long commemoration highlights the contributions of a leader whose reign laid the groundwork for the development of Bahrain’s early institutions and governance structures.
Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa ruled Bahrain from 1869 to 1932, making his tenure one of the longest in the region’s history. Over more than six decades, Bahrain experienced a period of transformation that saw the country gradually move from a traditional pearling economy toward a more structured administrative and political system. Under his leadership, Bahrain began to develop the institutional foundations that would later support the Kingdom’s modernization.
Isa Al Kabeer’s era was defined by a careful balance between tradition and reform. His leadership helped establish administrative frameworks that strengthened governance while preserving the social fabric of Bahraini society. During this period, Bahrain saw the introduction of more organized legal and administrative systems, steps that contributed to shaping the structure of the modern state.
The designation of the Year of Isa Al Kabeer reflects a broader effort to preserve Bahrain’s historical memory and strengthen awareness of the milestones that shaped the nation’s identity. Through cultural initiatives, heritage programs, and educational activities, the year provides an opportunity to revisit the achievements and values associated with Isa Al Kabeer’s leadership.
Muharraq, the historic capital of Bahrain during much of Isa Al Kabeer’s reign, plays a central role in this commemoration. The city remains home to numerous landmarks connected to Bahrain’s early political and cultural life, and restoration projects linked to the initiative aim to preserve these sites as living reminders of the country’s history. Heritage spaces associated with Isa Al Kabeer and his era are being revisited as part of wider efforts to safeguard Bahrain’s architectural legacy.

The initiative also carries a cultural dimension that goes beyond historical preservation. By revisiting the legacy of Isa Al Kabeer, the Year seeks to strengthen the connection between Bahrain’s past and its present. Public programs, exhibitions, and academic discussions aim to provide deeper insight into the historical circumstances that shaped the Kingdom during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Historians often describe Isa Al Kabeer as a figure who guided Bahrain through a period of significant regional change. His reign coincided with a time when Gulf societies were adapting to shifting political and economic dynamics. Through diplomacy and measured governance, he helped maintain stability and continuity while navigating these transformations.
The values associated with his leadership remain a central theme in the national narrative. Prudence, moderation, and a commitment to social cohesion are often highlighted as defining characteristics of Isa Al Kabeer’s approach to governance. These qualities continue to resonate in contemporary discussions about Bahrain’s development and leadership.
Ultimately, the Year of Isa Al Kabeer is not only about remembering a historical figure. It is about recognizing the role that thoughtful leadership and institutional foundations play in shaping the longterm trajectory of a nation. By reflecting on this pivotal chapter in Bahrain’s history, the initiative offers a deeper understanding of the origins of the modern Bahraini state.
As the Kingdom observes this commemorative year, the legacy of Isa Al Kabeer stands as a reminder that the progress of a nation is often rooted in the vision of those who guided it through earlier generations. His influence continues to echo through Bahrain’s institutions, its heritage, and the story of its evolution into the modern state it is today.

01 His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is presented with the book by its author, journalist Sawsan Al Shaer
02
The cover of the publication celebrating Isa Al Kabeer’s achievements as founder of the modern Bahraini state
Veteran Bahraini journalist Sawsan Al Shaer reflects on her decades-long career in media and the historical inspiration behind her new book ‘Isa Al Kabeer: Founder of the Modern State’, revisiting Bahrain’s formative past.
YOU HAVE BUILT A LONG AND INFLUENTIAL CAREER ACROSS JOURNALISM, TELEVISION, AND COMMENTARY, BECOMING ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE VOICES IN BAHRAINI MEDIA. LOOKING BACK, WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO THE WORLD OF WRITING AND PUBLIC COMMENTARY, AND WHAT EARLY EXPERIENCES SHAPED YOUR CONVICTION THAT JOURNALISM WOULD BE YOUR PATH?
My relationship with writing began quite unexpectedly. In the mid-1980s, around 1986, writing was not something I had planned as a profession. It started simply as a deep interest in reading and learning. Books and articles occupied much of my time, and gradually that curiosity about ideas and public affairs began to grow. My husband was the one who encouraged me to take that interest more seriously and suggested that I try writing rather than limiting myself to reading. At the time there was no formal preparation, no academic plan, and no sense that I was entering a career path. I simply contacted the late Ali Al Sayyar, the editorin-chief of Sada Al-Usbu magazine, and told him that I would like to write. He did not know anything
about my abilities, so he handed me a book and asked me to write a commentary on it. The book was a report issued by the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. I wrote the commentary and presented it to him, and he decided to purchase it. That moment marked the beginning of my journey in journalism. What began as a small opportunity gradually turned into a lifelong commitment to writing and public commentary.
EVERY WRITER DEVELOPS THEIR VOICE THROUGH EXPOSURE TO IDEAS, MENTORS, AND INTELLECTUAL INFLUENCES. IN THE FORMATIVE YEARS OF YOUR CAREER, WHICH THINKERS, WRITERS, OR PUBLIC FIGURES HELPED SHAPE YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND ENCOURAGED YOU TO ENGAGE CRITICALLY WITH SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ISSUES?
I cannot point to one single writer or public figure and say that they shaped my perspective. My development as a writer came through exposure to many voices across the Arab media landscape. For instance, Kuwaiti journalism
attracted my attention for its boldness and the high level of openness with which it addressed social and political issues. It demonstrated a certain courage in tackling sensitive subjects and presenting them to the public. At the same time, Egyptian journalism was particularly rich, not only with journalists but also with writers and intellectuals who approached public life through thoughtful analysis and cultural depth. What consistently captured my attention was not necessarily the name of the writer but the quality of the article itself. I was always drawn to writing that presented complex issues in a clear and accessible way, where sophisticated ideas were expressed with simplicity and elegance so that even non-specialist readers could understand them. This ability to translate complexity into clarity became one of the most influential lessons I absorbed from reading others.
YOUR NEW BOOK, ISA AL KABEER: FOUNDER OF THE MODERN STATE, REVISITS A PIVOTAL FIGURE IN BAHRAIN’S HISTORY. WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO FOCUS ON ISA
BIN ALI AL KHALIFA AT THIS MOMENT, AND WHY DO YOU BELIEVE HIS LEGACY DESERVES RENEWED ATTENTION TODAY?
My interest in writing about Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa emerged from a longstanding passion for history and historical documentation. Over the years, much of my personal reading has centered on historical works, biographies, and studies that revisit the past and examine it from new perspectives. I have always been drawn to books that challenge conventional narratives and encourage readers to reconsider events through fresh lenses. This intellectual curiosity eventually led me to explore Bahrain’s history more deeply and to ask fundamental questions about how the state was formed and how it developed over time. Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa occupies a central place in that story. His leadership represents an important stage in Bahrain’s political and institutional evolution. Revisiting his legacy today is not simply about recounting historical events but about understanding the foundations upon which modern Bahrain was built. Examining that period allows us to see the continuity between past leadership and the development of the modern state.
WRITING ABOUT HISTORICAL FIGURES OFTEN REVEALS UNEXPECTED DIMENSIONS OF THEIR LEADERSHIP AND CHARACTER. DURING YOUR RESEARCH FOR THE BOOK, WERE THERE ANY DISCOVERIES, PERSPECTIVES, OR MOMENTS IN ISA AL KABEER’S LIFE THAT PARTICULARLY SURPRISED YOU OR CHANGED THE WAY YOU VIEWED THAT PERIOD OF BAHRAIN’S DEVELOPMENT?
One of the most interesting aspects of researching the book was discovering how much historical material already existed but had not been examined closely enough. Some documents were publicly available for many years, yet certain details within them had not received adequate attention. Among these was a British document discussing the final period of Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa’s rule and his exile. Within that document, however, there was a significant passage confirming that Shaikh Isa bin Ali assumed leadership through a legitimate pledge of allegiance. This detail had not been emphasized sufficiently in previous discussions, yet it offers important insight into the political legitimacy of his rule. Another revealing aspect was the way British sources often described Shaikh Isa bin Ali as stubborn or resistant to change. But when examining the broader historical context, it becomes clear that his positions were not simply expressions of obstinacy. They were shaped by clear motivations tied to protecting sovereignty and national interests. Looking at the documents more carefully allowed a more balanced understanding of his leadership and the challenges he faced.

BEYOND RECOUNTING HISTORICAL EVENTS, BOOKS SUCH AS THIS OFTEN SEEK TO CONNECT PAST LEADERSHIP WITH PRESENT IDENTITY. WHAT DO YOU HOPE READERS, PARTICULARLY YOUNGER GENERATIONS IN BAHRAIN, WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EXPLORATION OF ISA AL KABEER’S LIFE AND LEGACY?
My hope is that readers, especially younger generations, will develop a deeper sense of pride in their country and its history. One of the most important messages I wanted to convey through this book is that Bahrain’s present achievements did not emerge from a vacuum. The state was not built by chance, and the continuity of governance over decades did not occur randomly. What we see today is the result of long efforts, sacrifices, and historical accumulation. It is important for younger generations to recognize this history, understand it, and appreciate the work that preceded them. At the same time, I encourage readers not to accept any narrative, positive or negative, without reflection. History should invite questioning and critical thinking. Even books themselves are open to debate. What matters most is the willingness to keep searching, reading, and discovering new perspectives. Through that process, people ultimately realize that their history is not only a subject of study but also a source of identity and pride.
FOR YOUNG BAHRAINI JOURNALISTS AND WRITERS ENTERING A MEDIA LANDSCAPE THAT IS FASTER AND MORE COMPETITIVE THAN EVER, WHAT PRINCIPLES OR LESSONS FROM YOUR OWN JOURNEY WOULD YOU SHARE WITH THOSE HOPING TO BUILD A THOUGHTFUL AND CREDIBLE CAREER IN JOURNALISM?
The most important advice I would offer young journalists is to remain curious and intellectually independent. Reading widely is essential because it shapes your perspective and expands your understanding of the world. Writing should never be disconnected from thoughtful inquiry. I also believe that journalists must learn to question information rather than accepting it at face value. Critical thinking is at the heart of meaningful journalism. Writers should approach issues with an open mind, examine different viewpoints, and avoid reducing complex matters to simplistic conclusions. Finally, it is important to continue searching and learning throughout one’s career. Journalism is not simply about delivering opinions; it is about exploring ideas and encouraging deeper understanding within society. When writers remain committed to research, reflection, and intellectual honesty, they contribute not only to media but also to the broader cultural and historical awareness of their communities.
An Interview with H.E. Sara Ahmed Buhiji, CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Chairperson of Exhibition World Bahrain
Bahrain’s capital, Manama, is entering a new chapter in its evolution. Long known as the Kingdom’s financial and commercial center, the city is increasingly positioning itself as a cultural destination, shaped by a growing calendar of festivals, public events, and community gatherings. Much of this momentum has taken shape during the tenure of H.E. Sara Ahmed Buhiji, who became Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Chairperson of Exhibition World Bahrain in 2024 with a mandate to further strengthen Bahrain’s tourism sector and expand the Kingdom’s entertainment offering.
In recent years, Manama has become the setting for a series of major tourist initiatives, including the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebration featuring 2,500 drones across eight locations, the Hawa Al Manama festival in the historic souq, and Manama Nights, which has quickly become a Ramadan tradition. Together, these initiatives reflect a broader vision for the capital as a dynamic tourism destination.
In this interview, H.E. Ms Buhiji reflects on Manama’s tourism potential, the thinking behind its signature events, and the city’s evolving cultural identity.
MANAMA HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN VIEWED AS BAHRAIN’S COMMERCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE CENTER, BUT YOUR TENURE HAS SEEN IT EMERGE AS A TOURIST DESTINATION. HOW DO YOU ASSESS MANAMA’S UNTAPPED POTENTIAL FOR TOURISM, AND WHAT MAKES THE CAPITAL DISTINCT FROM OTHER GULF CITIES COMPETING FOR THE SAME VISITORS?
Manama’s appeal as a tourism destination comes from the depth of its history and the way that history
remains visible in the fabric of the city. The souq continues to function as a living marketplace rather than a preserved heritage site, reflecting the openness and cultural exchange that have shaped Bahrain for centuries. Experiences like Hawa Al Manama bring those layers to life through exhibitions and performances that allow visitors to encounter the city’s past in ways that feel natural and contemporary. At the same time, that history sits within a modern city that has evolved significantly over the past two decades. Within a compact area, visitors can move from the traditional streets of the souq to waterfront districts like Bahrain Bay, cultural venues such as the Bahrain National Theatre, and worldclass retail destinations like The Avenues. Bahrain’s small scale makes the city easy to navigate and gives Manama a sense of intimacy, where heritage and modern life connect through everyday experiences.
THE NEW YEAR’S EVE 2026 CELEBRATION MARKED THE FINALE OF CELEBRATE BAHRAIN WITH BAHRAIN’S LARGEST-EVER DRONE SHOW-2,500 DRONES ACROSS EIGHT
SYNCHRONIZED LOCATIONS IN MANAMA. WHAT DID THIS SPECTACLE ACHIEVE IN TERMS OF POSITIONING MANAMA AS A WORLD-CLASS NEW YEAR’S DESTINATION, AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO BUILD ON THIS MOMENTUM IN 2027?
The celebration showed that Manama can deliver large-scale public experiences that are visually striking and widely accessible. By staging the finale across several parts of the city, the midnight countdown became a moment people could share from the waterfront, commercial districts, and other public spaces. That approach reinforced the idea of the city itself as the setting for celebration, not just a single venue.
Moments like this move quickly through media and digital platforms, shaping how audiences outside Bahrain see the destination. The scale and coordination of the show highlight our ability to deliver ambitious programming while preserving the Kingdom’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Building on that momentum means continuing to strengthen the broader events calendar so that New

“ Success is measured in several ways, and visitor numbers are only one part of the picture. ”

Year’s Eve becomes one highlight within a yearround cultural rhythm.
THE DRONE SHOW FEATURED 1,100 “FIRE DRONES” REACHING 400 METERS ALONGSIDE 3D LIGHT PROJECTIONS ON THE FOUR SEASONS FACADE. AS BAHRAIN COMPETES WITH ESTABLISHED NEW YEAR’S DESTINATIONS LIKE DUBAI AND SYDNEY, HOW IMPORTANT ARE THESE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS IN CREATING A DISTINCTIVE MANAMA SIGNATURE?
Technology plays a key role in shaping how a city expresses itself during major celebrations, but its real value lies in the atmosphere and identity it helps bring to life. Elements such as coordinated drone displays, projection mapping, and large-scale lighting turn moments like New Year’s Eve into shared experiences that stay with people long after the countdown ends. Used with purpose, these tools give a celebration its own character while reflecting the ambition and creativity of the place hosting it.
For Manama, the focus is not on copying what other global cities already do. Our strength lies in creating a celebration that feels rooted in the city’s identity and scale. Technology supports that approach by turning the waterfront, architecture, and skyline into part of the performance itself. When visitors see the lights and formations unfold across the city, they experience Manama as the stage.
CELEBRATE BAHRAIN’S “LIVE EVERY MOMENT” THEME CULMINATED IN THIS NEW YEAR’S SPECTACLE. HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE SUCCESS OF THESE SEASONAL CAMPAIGNS-NOT JUST IN VISITOR NUMBERS, BUT IN SHIFTING GLOBAL PERCEPTIONS OF MANAMA AS A YEAR-ROUND CULTURAL CAPITAL?
Success is measured in several ways, and visitor numbers are only one part of the picture. What matters most is how people experience the city and how those moments shape their perception of Bahrain when they return home. Initiatives like Celebrate Bahrain create experiences across the year, giving visitors new ways to explore the Kingdom beyond a single moment or setting. When people experience Bahrain through festivals in the historic souq, waterfront events, and cultural programs across the city, they begin to see Manama as a place with a steady cultural rhythm. Over time, that experience shapes how the destination is understood internationally. For us, success is reflected in that shift in perception, when visitors return in different seasons and associate Manama with a vibrant calendar of events.

HAWA AL MANAMA HAS TRANSFORMED MANAMA SOUQ INTO WHAT YOU DESCRIBE AS A “WALKABLE NARRATIVE WHERE HERITAGE, DESIGN AND CONTEMPORARY URBAN LIFE INTERSECT.” WITH 200 BAHRAINI BUSINESSES, 90+ CURATED EXPERIENCES, AND 250+ YOUNG VOLUNTEERS IN ITS SECOND EDITION, WHAT DOES THIS PROJECT REVEAL ABOUT YOUR PHILOSOPHY FOR ACTIVATING HISTORIC URBAN SPACES?
Hawa Al Manama reflects a belief that historic districts should remain living parts of the city rather than spaces set aside simply to be observed. The souq already carries centuries of history within its streets and shops, and initiatives like this bring those layers to life by inviting people to explore and spend time there. As visitors move through the area, taking part in events or stopping into local businesses, the district feels vibrant and engaged. With more than 200 Bahraini businesses and hundreds of young volunteers involved, the project remains rooted in the community while creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to share their work with a wider audience.
THE FESTIVAL’S PEDESTRIAN-FIRST APPROACH-ALLOCATING 3,000-
4,000 PARKING SPACES WITH VALET SERVICE TO KEEP THE SOUQ VEHICLEFREE-REPRESENTS A BOLD URBAN PLANNING DECISION. HOW IS THIS MODEL INFLUENCING YOUR VISION FOR PERMANENT PEDESTRIANIZATION OF MANAMA’S HISTORIC CORE BEYOND THE FESTIVAL PERIOD?
The festival showed how the souq feels different when its streets are shaped around people on foot rather than traffic. The pace slows, details in the buildings and shopfronts become easier to notice, and visitors tend to spend more time moving between local businesses and cultural spaces. That shift in movement brings back a sense of how historic markets naturally function as places for interaction and exchange. Feedback from visitors and businesses makes it clear that walkability encourages people to cover more ground and stay longer. Insights from initiatives like these help guide how Manama’s historic core continues to evolve as a district that feels active and accessible.
FROM THE HALWA MUSEUM AND KANOO MUSEUM TO THE VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS AND CLASSIC CARS, HAWA AL MANAMA IMMERSES VISITORS IN TANGIBLE
CULTURAL MEMORY. HOW DO YOU ENSURE THESE EXPERIENCES RESONATE WITH YOUNGER BAHRAINIS WHO MAY NOT HAVE LIVED THROUGH THESE ERAS WHILE REMAINING AUTHENTIC TO THOSE WHO DID?
Younger people tend to connect with heritage more easily when they encounter it naturally rather than through formal introductions. At Hawa Al Manama, visitors might step into the Halwa Museum, notice vintage photographs, or come across classic cars as they move through the souq, discovering these moments while exploring its streets and shops. Because these elements sit alongside contemporary design, performances, and everyday activity, the past feels present within the setting itself. Many of the objects and stories come directly from Bahraini families and businesses that have been part of the community for generations, creating moments where older visitors recognize familiar memories while younger Bahrainis discover them for the first time through conversation and shared storytelling.
MANAMA NIGHTS IS NOW IN ITS THIRD EDITION AT THE BAHRAIN NATIONAL THEATRE GROUNDS, WITH ITS LAKESIDE SETTING AND CRESCENT LAKE INSTALLATION BECOMING A RAMADAN TRADITION. HOW HAS THIS EVENT EVOLVED TO MEET CHANGING VISITOR EXPECTATIONS WHILE MAINTAINING THE AUTHENTIC “MANAMA SPIRIT” THAT DEFINES IT?

Manama Nights evolved by gradually expanding the experience while preserving the atmosphere that people associate with Ramadan evenings in the city. The setting beside the Bahrain National Theatre and along the water naturally creates a relaxed place for families and friends to gather after iftar, and over time we have introduced more interactive elements that respond to what visitors enjoy. Installations like Crescent Lake have become part of that tradition, giving the event a visual identity while reinforcing the sense of community that defines Ramadan in Bahrain. The goal has always been to let the event grow organically while keeping the warmth and familiarity that people describe as the spirit of Manama.
THE INTRODUCTION OF HAWA AL MANAMA IN THE OLD SOUQ ALONGSIDE MANAMA NIGHTS CREATES A FASCINATING DIALOGUE BETWEEN NOSTALGIC MEMORY AND CONTEMPORARY CELEBRATION. HOW DO YOU SEE THESE TWO EXPERIENCESONE ROOTED IN RAMADAN SPIRITUALITY, THE OTHER IN CULTURAL HERITAGECOMPLEMENTING EACH OTHER IN TELLING MANAMA’S COMPLETE STORY?
Hawa Al Manama and Manama Nights complement each other because they reflect two different dimensions of the city’s identity. Hawa Al Manama revisits everyday moments from Bahrain’s past, bringing back familiar scenes and objects that many people associate with life in the old souq,
while Manama Nights captures the atmosphere of the city during Ramadan, when families and friends gather after sunset and the waterfront comes alive. Experiencing both allows visitors to see how Manama has evolved while remaining connected to the traditions that shaped it, creating a fuller picture of the city’s story.
LOOKING AHEAD FIVE TO TEN YEARS, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE VISION FOR MANAMA AS A GLOBAL EVENTS DESTINATION? DO YOU ENVISION HAWA AL MANAMA EVOLVING INTO A PERMANENT YEAR-ROUND CULTURAL DISTRICT, MANAMA NIGHTS BECOMING A MULTI-WEEK FESTIVAL ATTRACTING INTERNATIONAL VISITORS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE EXPERIENCE, OR PERHAPS ENTIRELY NEW SIGNATURE EVENTS THAT WOULD CEMENT MANAMA’S PLACE ALONGSIDE CITIES LIKE EDINBURGH, VENICE, OR RIO AS A MUSTVISIT TOURISM CAPITAL?
Our goal is to continue letting tourist and cultural experiences unfold across the urban landscape rather than within a single venue or season. Projects like Hawa Al Manama and Manama Nights have shown how different parts of the city, from the historic souq to the waterfront, can become stages for culture and shared experiences. Over time, some of these initiatives may naturally grow into larger traditions, while new ideas will emerge that reflect the city’s evolving character.

His
Highness
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown
of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, officially inaugurated Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, a landmark institution which reinforces the UAE’s leadership in culture and scientific research.

Located in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum offers an inspiring journey through 13.8 billion years of history spanning the creation of our universe and the story of life on Earth. It also serves as a centre for research and discovery, with onsite facilities that will undertake scientific research and contribute to global knowledge production.
Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is the largest institution of its kind in the Middle East. It features extraordinary exhibits and interactive experiences which bring nature’s greatest stories to life, including awe-inspiring glimpses into the age of dinosaurs.
The world’s first-ever display of a sauropod dinosaur herd can be found in the museum’s atrium, with five different species of these long-necked giants standing majestically to greet visitors as they enter.
Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi has a special focus on the natural history of the Emirates and the wider region. Galleries take visitors back in time to seven million years ago, when the climate was very different, giving life to a green and lush savannah-like landscape roamed by now-extinct animals, including a giant elephant with four tusks, which is also on display for visitors to discover.
Deeper into the galleries, another world-first awaits: a display featuring Tyrannosaurus rexes locked in battle over the carcass of a Triceratops, which is the first time two fossil T. rexes have been exhibited in such a dynamic scene. They include 67-million-year-old
“Stan”, one of the best-preserved examples of a T. rex ever discovered, bringing this prehistoric scene vividly to life. Visitors can observe fossil evidence of this ancient battle, including bite marks on the Triceratops.
Beyond the visitor experience, education and research are at the heart of the museum’s mission. In addition to showcasing the wonders of the natural world, it will advance scientific understanding, support interdisciplinary research, and inspire future generations to explore, protect, and learn from our planet.
Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi embraces climate awareness and sustainable conservation.
Guided by the UAE’s deep commitment to environmental education, the museum also serves as an institution for educational engagement and biodiversity research about our shared future. Central to this purpose is youth. The museum seeks to educate and empower young citizens to become future scientists, researchers, and conservation leaders, inspired to pursue careers in natural history and environmental responsibility.
The museum will also host ongoing public programming, education workshops, and communityled initiatives designed to make natural history accessible to everyone. As a space where scientific knowledge meets cultural insight, the museum invites every visitor to move beyond observation, to think critically, act responsibly, and be part of the solutions shaping tomorrow’s world.

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi joins a growing community of world-class institutions on Saadiyat Island, including Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, and the upcoming Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Together, these institutions define the Saadiyat Cultural District as a global destination for culture, creativity, and cross-disciplinary exchange, a place where art, science, and heritage are brought together to shape future generations.

“ Beyond the science, Lucy has become a global symbol of shared human heritage. ”

Last month, pioneering American paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson returned to a scene that changed his life forever. At the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, he stood once again before Lucy, the 3.2million-year-old fossil whose discovery transformed our understanding of human origins.
Inaugurated in November 2025 in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi traces the story of the universe and life on Earth across 13.8 billion years. Visitors are taken on a journey from the origins of the cosmos to the future of our planet, with a particular focus on the natural history of the Arabian Peninsula. Through immersive galleries and remarkable specimens, including a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton, a blue whale, and the Murchison meteorite, the museum brings together research, discovery, and storytelling to illuminate the history of life on Earth.
For Professor Johanson, the visit was deeply personal. Born in Chicago in 1943, he achieved international recognition in 1974 while working in Ethiopia’s Afar region, where he discovered the remarkably complete skeleton of Australopithecus afarensis. Nicknamed Lucy, the fossil quickly became one of the most important discoveries in paleoanthropology. For the first time since her discovery, Johanson was reunited with Lucy, who is currently on rare loan from Ethiopia.
He explained that Lucy changed the story of human development by showing that upright walking came before large brains. “Before Lucy, we thought brain enlargement happened first,” Johanson said,
highlighting how her pelvis, knees, and lower limbs revealed a creature walking fully upright some 3.2 million years ago.
Her discovery confirmed Africa as the cradle of humanity and laid the foundation for understanding how later hominins migrated, including through the Middle East, a key crossroads linking continents and peoples.
While Lucy’s species is not found in the Middle East, Johanson noted the region’s importance in tracing later migrations. Fossils of early Homo species and evidence of Homo sapiens show how humans adapted to new environments and spread across Eurasia. Comparing Lucy’s anatomy to these later hominins illustrates how evolutionary pressures shaped locomotion, behavior, and survival over millions of years. Lucy represents the early stage of upright walking in Africa, while Middle Eastern fossils reveal adaptations to different climates and landscapes. Johanson also reflected on the methods that made the discovery possible. Careful stratigraphic surveying and meticulous excavation in Ethiopia, paired with comparative anatomy in the lab, were critical to understanding Lucy’s age and significance. Today, these approaches are enhanced by modern tools like 3D imaging and micro-CT scanning,
techniques that can be applied in Middle Eastern sites to connect fossil evidence with environmental and migratory patterns.
Beyond the science, Lucy has become a global symbol of shared human heritage. Johanson emphasized that her story connects all people, saying, “We are all Africans. Lucy shows us how deeply connected our past is.”
He praised educational programs in the Middle East that link local archaeological finds to the broader story of human evolution, noting that public engagement is essential for fostering awareness and curiosity.
Looking ahead, Johanson sees the future of paleoanthropology driven by technological advances and international collaboration. As researchers uncover older and more diverse fossils, particularly in regions like the Middle East, they will gain deeper insights into how early humans adapted, migrated, and shaped the world we live in today.
For visitors at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Lucy’s presence is a living connection to our shared past, and a reminder of the enduring power of discovery.

“
Rabat is a true hidden gem. We are so excited to share this royal capital with all of its history and culture, while welcoming you with world-class Four Seasons hospitality. ”
Gregory Viaud, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr
Al Bahr, reflects on bringing new life to a historic royal palace while honoring its rich heritage.
AS THE GENERAL MANAGER LEADING THE OPENING OF KASR AL BAHR, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO TRANSFORM A HISTORIC 18THCENTURY ROYAL SUMMER RESIDENCE INTO A PREMIER LUXURY DESTINATION FOR FOUR SEASONS?
Transforming Kasr Al Bahr into a Four Seasons hotel has been a truly remarkable journey. From the beginning, it has been about honoring the history of this extraordinary place and bringing to life a new luxury destination. This 18th century royal palace carries deep historical significance for Rabat, and there was a strong sense of responsibility in preserving its identity and spirit. Reimagining it as the “Palace by the Sea” meant respecting the character of the original residence while introducing the elegance, warmth, and intuitive service that define the Four Seasons experience. Today, we are incredibly proud to see how the property now stands as a place where heritage and contemporary hospitality coexist beautifully. It has become a destination that celebrates the past while offering an inspiring and refined experience for both international travelers and the local communities who still remember the heritage of the Military Hospital Marie Feuillet era.
KASR AL BAHR HAS A RICH HISTORY AS BOTH A PALACE AND A HOSPITAL. HOW DID YOU BALANCE THE PRESERVATION OF ITS ARCHITECTURAL SOUL WITH THE MODERN, HIGH-TECH LUXURY EXPECTATIONS OF TODAY’S GLOBAL TRAVELER?
Our philosophy to preserve the Moroccan heritage was integration rather than replacement. Our main goal was to rebuild the past and thoughtfully restore and celebrate it while introducing the comfort and modern touch that match the travelers’ expectations. We restored six of the property’s historical buildings saving architectural elements, allowing them to remain central to the
identity of the hotel and facades. At the same time, modern features were carefully integrated in ways that feel seamless and discreet. Guests will notice beautiful traditional details such as handcrafted Zellige tiles and wood and marble, while also benefiting from intuitive in-room technology, modern lighting systems, and high-level connectivity. By approaching modernization with sensitivity, we were able to create an environment where contemporary luxury enhances the historic setting. The result is a location that feels both timeless and fully aligned with the expectations of our visitors.
THE HOTEL’S LOCATION OVERLOOKING THE ATLANTIC IS BREATHTAKING. HOW DOES THE COASTAL MOROCCAN ENVIRONMENT INFLUENCE THE GUEST EXPERIENCE AND THE OVERALL ATMOSPHERE OF THE HOTEL?
The Atlantic Ocean plays a defining role in the overall atmosphere of the property. From the moment guests arrive, the presence of the water creates a natural sense of tranquility and escape. Ocean views are thoughtfully incorporated in the hotel, whether from guest rooms, suites, or poolside, allowing guests to feel constantly connected to the surrounding landscape, enhancing “The Palace by the Sea” experience in every corner. Other natural elements are incorporated, such as the outdoor and indoor green gardens, the plants in the lobby area and the water fountain that subtly influence the pace of the experience. From the entrance, these elements invite the guests to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and truly immerse themselves in the calm and beauty of the Atlantic coast and the historical location. This connection to nature becomes one of the most memorable aspects of the “Palace by the Sea” experience.
RABAT IS OFTEN SEEN AS MOROCCO’S CULTURAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE HEART.
HOW DO YOU BELIEVE FOUR SEASONS KASR AL BAHR WILL SHIFT THE CITY’S IDENTITY AS A MUST-VISIT
Rabat is truly a hidden hem. The city has always been rich in culture, history and art with high governmental significance as it is the royal capital of Morocco. The opening of Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr represents an important milestone. By introducing a worldclass hospitality experience with refined leisure offerings, exceptional dining, wellness facilities, and breathtaking views to the Atlantic coast, we are contributing to a new chapter in Rabat’s development, creating a unique story in the hospitality landscape and destination. Our vision is to position the hotel a gateway to discovering the capital’s cultural heritage, also recognized by UNESCO as a world site heritage with its historical landmarks and old Medina. By combining the authenticity of Rabat with Four Seasons offering, the property role is to encourage travelers to discover the city not only as a cultural capital, but also as an attractive and sophisticated destination to visit and explore.
FROM THE DISTINCT DINING OUTLETS TO THE EXPANSIVE SPA, WHAT IS THE ONE “HIDDEN GEM” OR EXPERIENCE WITHIN THE HOTEL THAT YOU PERSONALLY BELIEVE EVERY GUEST MUST DISCOVER?
One experience I often recommend to guests is visiting Laila Lounge, which I consider one of the hotel’s true hidden gems. Located within one of the original historic buildings from the 18th-century palace era, the space carries a unique sense of history and exclusivity that immediately sets it apart. There is something very special about spending time in a place that once formed part of the royal residence while enjoying the refined comforts of a modern luxury setting. Laila Lounge has been

designed as an intimate and sophisticated lounge where guests can unwind and enjoy a different atmosphere as the evening unfolds. It’s a place where people come to savor expertly crafted drinks and cocktails, discover a selection of refined cigars, and enjoy live entertainment in a relaxed yet elegant environment. What makes it particularly memorable is the combination of heritage, décor and ambiance. The historical character of the building creates a sense of authenticity and depth, while the warm lighting, music, and attentive service transform it into a vibrant social space. For many guests, it becomes a moment of discovery within the hotelan experience that feels both exclusive and deeply connected to the history of the palace.
YOU HAVE HAD A DISTINGUISHED CAREER WITH FOUR SEASONS ACROSS THE GLOBE. HOW ARE YOU INFUSING THE LEGENDARY FOUR SEASONS SERVICE STANDARDS WITH LOCAL MOROCCAN HOSPITALITY AND CULTURE?
Throughout my career with Four Seasons, I have always believed that exceptional service comes from understanding people and anticipating their needs in a thoughtful and personal way. In Rabat, we enrich this philosophy with the warmth, generosity, and authenticity that are deeply rooted in Moroccan hospitality. Our team is trained not only in the global standards that define Four Seasons, but also in the cultural details that make the experience here unique. Simple yet meaningful traditions, such as offering Moroccan mint tea, sharing stories about local culture, or guiding guests toward authentic experiences in the city, help create a genuine connection between the hotel and its destination.
Seeing our team express their pride in Moroccan culture while delivering the signature Four Seasons service is incredibly rewarding. It creates an atmosphere where guests feel both cared for and truly immersed in the spirit of the place.
WITH THE GROWING IMPORTANCE OF CONSCIOUS LUXURY, HOW IS THE HOTEL INTEGRATING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES INTO ITS DAILY OPERATIONS WHILE MAINTAINING A FIVE-STAR EXPERIENCE?
At Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr, conscious luxury is not viewed as a separate initiative, but rather as an integral part of how we operate every day. We believe that true luxury today also includes a strong sense of responsibility toward the environment, the local community, and the cultural heritage of the destination. From the very beginning of the project, this philosophy was reflected in the way the hotel was developed. A significant portion of the construction and restoration work was carried out by local Moroccan artisans, whose craftsmanship played a key role in preserving the authenticity of the historic palace. Their expertise in traditional techniquesfrom intricate decorative elements to architectural finishes-not only helped maintain the soul of the property, but also ensured that the project supported local talent and cultural heritage. More broadly, our approach focuses on thoughtful decision-making across all aspects of the hotel’s operations, ensuring that sustainability and comfort coexist seamlessly. Whether through responsible sourcing, efficient resource management, or meaningful community engagement, our objective is to operate with awareness and respect for our
surroundings. Importantly, these efforts never compromise the guest experience. They add a deeper layer of authenticity and meaning to a stay, something that today’s travelers increasingly value. Our goal is to offer an experience that feels not only luxurious, but also connected to the place and the people who make it so special.
One of the most rewarding aspects during my journey in Rabat has been leading the hotel through its pre-opening and opening phases. Preparing Kasr Al Bahr to welcome its first guests required building a team from the ground up, shaping the culture of the hotel, and ensuring that every detail reflected the standards of Four Seasons while respecting the unique character of the property. The pre-opening phase is always intense and exciting. It involves continuous trainings, refining service rituals, and bringing together many different elements that eventually form the guest experience. Seeing the team grow more confident each day and watching the hotel gradually come to life has been incredibly fulfilling. The moment when we welcomed our first guests was particularly special. It marked the transition from a vision and a project on paper to a living destination filled with energy, hospitality, and human connection. Being part of this immense transformation, especially in such a historic and meaningful location, has been a defining moment in my career.

As SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS marks the opening of its first Maldivian sanctuary, with a second to follow later this year, Senior Vice President of Operations Marc Gussing shares how presence, culture and architectural rhythm shape an intuitive, human-centred approach to luxury.
WITH YOUR EARLY GROUNDING IN HOSPITALITY AND YOUR BELIEF THAT SERVICE IS ABOUT PRESENCE RATHER THAN PERFORMANCE, HOW ARE YOU EMBEDDING THAT PHILOSOPHY INTO THE OPERATIONAL FABRIC OF SIX & SIX SO THAT THE GUEST EXPERIENCE FEELS INTUITIVE RATHER THAN CHOREOGRAPHED?
I believe we sometimes overcomplicate service. When I say it’s about presence rather than performance, I mean something quite simple. Guests can sense when someone is “doing service” and when someone is genuinely there with them. The first feels rehearsed. The second feels human. At SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS, we are careful to safeguard authenticity in the way our teams engage with guests. We do not begin with scripts or service sequences. We begin with culture. Our People of the Islands culture is not a concept we brief and move on from. It is how we expect our teams to see themselves - as hosts rooted in this place. When that grounding is clear, behaviour becomes more natural. The Edhurun or Butler Programme is a good example. In many resorts, a butler is trained to anticipate in a structured way. Here, the Edhuru is positioned as a mentor. That changes the dynamic. Instead of running through a checklist, they spend time listening, observing, understanding the pace of each guest. One family may want guidance and storytelling. Another may want space and silence. An Edhuru is empowered to respond to that rhythm, not to a template. We also
look closely at how design supports this philosophy. Architecture shapes behaviour. If a dining space feels open and connected to the sea, service will naturally slow down. If pathways encourage chance encounters rather than formal arrivals, conversations happen more organically. Operations, design and story must align. Otherwise, you end up asking people to behave in ways the space does not support. As we prepare two islands within one portfolio, my focus is on consistency of tone rather than uniformity of process. I want teams who are confident enough to be calm, to read a moment, to act without needing constant instruction. When leadership is steady and peoplefirst, that confidence grows. Ultimately, if a guest leaves feeling understood rather than impressed, we have done our job. That is presence. And that is what we are building into the DNA of SIX & SIX.
AS THE “PEOPLE OF THE ISLANDS,” THE RAYYITHUN CONCEPT IS CENTRAL TO YOUR BRAND. HOW DO YOU MOVE THIS FROM A HIGH-LEVEL VISION TO A LIVED EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR TEAM MEMBERS ON THE GROUND?
For me, Rayyithun only works if it stops being a concept and starts being a mirror. If our people cannot see themselves in it, then it is just language. So, we began very simply. We asked: what does it mean to belong to these islands, not just to work on them? Rayyithun is framed as “People of the Islands,” but on the ground it translates into

everyday behaviour. How we greet one another. How we resolve tension. How we share responsibility. Culture comes before systems. If that foundation is right, the systems make sense. Practically, this shows up in how we hire and how we onboard. We recruit for mindset before skill. During induction, we do not start with brand standards. We start with story. We talk about the Maldives, about community, about the role each person plays within a larger rhythm. The Edhurun/Butlers are introduced not as senior staff, but as mentors - people responsible for guiding others, not supervising them. That subtle shift changes the tone of the entire operation. We also design the environment to reinforce it. Spaces for team gatherings are not afterthoughts. They are intentional. When team members feel seen and supported in their own spaces, they extend that same care outward. Rayyithun becomes lived when decision-making reflects it. If something goes wrong, the question is not “who is at fault?” but “how do we restore balance?” That mindset builds trust. And trust builds confidence. From there, guest experience becomes intuitive because the team is operating from shared values rather than instructions. As we are opening six islands. Rayyithun is the thread that connects them. As we grow, my focus is to protect that thread - to ensure that scale never dilutes identity. If our people feel that this is their story as much as ours, then the vision will never remain high level. It will live in the way they stand, speak and show up every day.
“ When I speak about operational language, I’m really referring to the tone and philosophy that guide how the island is lived and run each day. ”

YOU WORK ACROSS DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN AS MUCH AS OPERATIONS. HOW DOES THE ARCHITECTURAL “STORY” OF THE ISLANDS INFLUENCE THE WAY YOUR TEAMS MOVE AND SERVE WITHIN THOSE SPACES?
Architecture sets the tone long before a team member says a word. It shapes behavior quietly. If a space feels open, grounded and connected to the sea, it invites a different kind of service. Softer. Slower. More attentive. Design is not aesthetic. It is behavioral. Both our principals are deeply involved in the design direction of each island. The architectural language, material choices and sense of scale are shaped at that level with clear intent. My role, working closely with them, is to ensure that operational flow, layout and guest journey are fully considered from the outset. We look carefully at movement patterns, service access, back-of-house transitions and how the team and guest will naturally interact within each space.
That discussion between design and operations starts early. It prevents us from creating something that later needs to be “managed.” The space should already support the rhythm we want. Take the dining venues. When a restaurant opens towards the horizon rather than enclosing the guest, service cannot feel theatrical. It must respect the view, the light and the pace of the sea. That affects how a team member approaches a table, how long they remain present, even the tone of voice they use. You do not rush in a space that asks you to breathe. The villas follow the same principle. Privacy is designed into the

architecture. As a result, service becomes discreet by default. A butler reads the layout and understands where presence is welcome and where distance is more appropriate. The building itself provides cues. That reduces the need for excessive instruction. Across the two islands, each has its own personality, yet both belong to one constellation. The architectural story anchors them in the Maldives - in materiality, scale and the seamless blending of indoor and outdoor living. Our teams are trained to move with that story, not against it. When design, story and operations are aligned, behavior feels natural. The team does not perform within the space. They respond to it. And that is when service becomes intuitive - because the architecture has already set the rhythm.
HAVING MANAGED LUXURY PROPERTIES
ACROSS THE INDIAN OCEAN, YOU ARE NO STRANGER TO THE COMPLEXITIES OF REMOTE OPERATIONS. WHAT IS THE GREATEST “UNSEEN” CHALLENGE IN LAUNCHING TWO PRIVATE ISLANDS SIMULTANEOUSLY IN 2026?
The obvious challenges in remote operations are logistics, supply chains, timelines. You plan for those. You build buffers. You track them daily. The unseen challenge is alignment of energy. When you launch one island, the focus is singular. When you launch two within the same year, especially as part of one portfolio like SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS, the risk is not operational failure. It is dilution of attention. Culture can fragment quietly if you are not careful. Both islands will have their own architectural story, their own pace. But they are anchored in the same philosophy. The unseen work is ensuring that this
identity feels coherent across locations without becoming rigid. That requires constant dialogue between teams before doors even open. A practical example is leadership calibration. We bring department heads from both islands together early, not to review policies, but to discuss tone. How do we want a guest to feel on arrival? How do we want recovery to feel if something goes wrong? Those conversations shape behaviour long before operations manuals are finalized. Remote environments also amplify small cultural fractures. On an island, you cannot step away from the workplace in the same way you might in a city. Community and operation are intertwined. So, we invest heavily in internal mentorship and in spaces where teams can reset and connect. If the internal rhythm is off, guests will sense it immediately. The real challenge, often unseen, is keeping the organisation steady while momentum accelerates. Two openings mean pressure. But pressure should never translate into tension on the ground. If we succeed, guests will never see the complexity behind it. They will experience two islands that feel assured, steady and connecteddistinct in character, yet unmistakably part of the same constellation. That quiet coherence is the real work.
WITH THE FIRST OF YOUR SIX RESORTS NOW OPEN AND THE SECOND OPENING LATER THIS YEAR, WHAT OPERATIONAL LANGUAGE ARE YOU CREATING THAT WILL DISTINGUISH SIX & SIX FROM THE ESTABLISHED LUXURY PLAYERS IN THE MALDIVES?
When I speak about operational language, I’m really talking about the tone of how we run the island. Not branded terms, not new labels. Tone. In the
Maldives, luxury has often been expressed through perfection and polish. Flawless transfers. Formal greetings. Structured sequences. There is nothing wrong with that. But it can create distance. For us, the operational language is built around ease. For example, instead of training teams to “anticipate and impress,” we train them to observe and respond. That small shift removes performance pressure. It encourages attentiveness without theatrics. A team member does not need to create a moment. They need to read one. We are also very conscious of how we talk internally. If a delay happens, the language is not about blame or escalation. It is about adjustment. On a remote island, weather changes. Boats run late. Materials arrive differently than planned. If leadership reacts with urgency and tension, that becomes the tone of the island. So, we deliberately choose calm vocabulary. That creates stability. Another element is spatial language. We brief teams to think in terms of flow rather than control. How does a guest move through arrival? Where might they pause? Where might they want privacy? Instead of directing every step, we allow the architecture to guide and the team to support. The service feels less managed and more natural. Across two islands in one constellation, this operational language must feel coherent. It will not be about memorising phrases. It will be about shared understanding: we value composure, we value intuition, we value place. If that tone holds, we will not need to declare how we are different. Guests will simply feel that nothing is being pushed at them. The experience will unfold at their pace. And that restraint, in this market, is what will quietly set us apart. sixandsix.com 03

“ The history of the brand is reflected in the composition and in the message we send to the global market. ”
Sultan Abdulla reflects on heritage, ambition, and global vision, sharing how an Emirati fragrance house evolves while honoring generations of craftsmanship and innovation.
YOU’VE OFTEN DESCRIBED YOUR ROLE AS A “BRIDGE BETWEEN GENERATIONS.” HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING A CUSTODIAN OF YOUR GRANDMOTHER’S 1950S BUKHOOR LEGACY WITH THE NEED TO BE AN ARCHITECT FOR A MODERN, GLOBAL FRAGRANCE HOUSE?
The trade began with my great-grandfather, who was involved in trading between India and the region. My grandmother continued the blending tradition, and my mother strengthened the connection between East and West. As for me, I see myself as adding the final touches by connecting the brand to the modern world. With a background in marketing, my focus has been on building the brand and expanding it internationally. I truly see myself as the bridge between the past and the future, between the older generation and the next generation to come. We respect our roots, but we also think globally.
BEFORE LEADING LOOTAH PERFUMES, YOU HELD SIGNIFICANT LEADERSHIP ROLES IN THE DUBAI GOVERNMENT AND THE MBRM FOUNDATION. WHAT IS THE MOST UNCONVENTIONAL LESSON FROM YOUR TIME IN PUBLIC SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE APPLIED TO THE LUXURY RETAIL WORLD?
Working under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was like attending a university. We learned how to think beyond
limitations and to approach challenges with confidence. One key lesson was that nothing is impossible. If you look at Dubai 20 or 30 years ago and compare it to today, you see what vision and consistency can achieve. That mindset shaped how we think about our brand. We believe there is no reason an Emirati brand cannot compete internationally with the biggest names in luxury.
IN AN ERA WHERE THE FRAGRANCE MARKET IS INCREASINGLY FAST-PACED AND TREND-DRIVEN, HOW DO YOU ENSURE THAT EVERY NEW LOOTAH CREATION RETAINS THE SOUL OF EMIRATI CULTURE?
We always say that without a past, there is no future. If we forget that we are an Emirati brand, there will be no future for us. We maintain that connection through storytelling, communication, and ingredients. Even when we innovate, there is always an element that connects back to our oriental heritage. The history of the brand is reflected in the composition and in the message we send to the global market. That is how we preserve the soul of Emirati culture.
THE GLOBAL PERCEPTION OF MIDDLE EASTERN FRAGRANCE IS OFTEN LIMITED TO HEAVY OUD. HOW ARE YOU EDUCATING THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET ON THE

NUANCES AND SOPHISTICATION OF TRADITIONAL BUKHOOR AND INCENSE?
I often use a cooking analogy. Just as it would be difficult for a foreign chef to authentically recreate a traditional regional dish, oriental perfumery is rooted in our region’s expertise. We understand how to balance oud, oriental notes, and French techniques because it is part of our DNA. At the same time, we have evolved. We blend tradition with modern artistry. We present ourselves as an Emirati brand from Dubai, and we communicate that we are masters of balancing these elements. This is how we demonstrate that oriental fragrance is sophisticated and nuanced, not just heavy.
YOU HAVE MENTIONED THAT PEOPLE ARE EVERYTHING AND THAT YOUR TEAM COMES FIRST. IN THE COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE OF THE GCC, HOW DO YOU CULTIVATE A COMPANY CULTURE THAT PRIORITIZES CRAFTSMANSHIP AND PATIENCE?
I believe strongly in investing in people. An organization without people is nothing. The most valuable asset in any company is its team. To build an international brand, you need diversity, different backgrounds, and different experiences. When you invest in people and focus on quality rather than short-term profit, you build something lasting. Craftsmanship and customer satisfaction always come before rapid expansion.

LOOTAH HAS SUCCESSFULLY INTEGRATED FRENCH PERFUMERY TECHNIQUES WITH ORIENTAL HERITAGE. WHEN DEVELOPING A NEW BLEND, HOW DO YOU DECIDE THAT AN INNOVATION IS EXTENDING TRADITION RATHER THAN REPLACING IT?
For us, fragrance creation begins with mood and inspiration. We create a mood board and brief the perfumer with a story. The direction comes from the narrative behind the fragrance. We do not start with a formula and then decide what it should be. We begin with art. For example, a fragrance might be inspired by a specific place or time, such as a morning in Jumeirah or a winter sunset in Liwa. Once the fragrance is created, we evaluate its direction and how it connects to our heritage. Innovation extends tradition when it respects the story and the emotional foundation behind it.
WITH THE FRAGRANCE MARKET SHIFTING TOWARD NATURAL INGREDIENTS AND SUSTAINABLE SOURCING, HOW IS LOOTAH ADAPTING ITS SUPPLY CHAIN TO PRESERVE RARE MATERIALS FOR THE NEXT 50 YEARS?
We follow international standards such as IFRA and all relevant regulatory frameworks to maintain
compliance and quality. Beyond that, we invest in sustainable practices to ensure the continuity of rare materials, particularly agarwood. We support sustainable cultivation efforts in India to ensure that future generations will still have access to these materials. We are not thinking only about today. We are thinking about the long term.
LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT DO YOU WANT THE NAME LOOTAH TO REPRESENT TO A YOUNG EMIRATI ENTREPRENEUR? WHAT IS THE ONE MEMORY YOU HOPE YOUR LEADERSHIP LEAVES BEHIND?
I want young entrepreneurs to see that nothing is impossible. If an Emirati brand can begin with family heritage and grow into an international competitor, then others can do the same. As for my personal legacy, I believe the brand should stand on its own. People come and go, generations change, but the brand should remain. I hope the memory is one of pride. Pride that an Emirati brand became international, competed with the biggest names, and maintained its identity along the way.

Before the next chapter of transformation begins, Armani Hotel Dubai stands as a testament to a distinctive vision of hospitality shaped by Giorgio Armani himself. Set within the iconic Burj Khalifa and overlooking the Dubai Fountain, the hotel reflects a rare union of architecture, design and lifestyle, capturing a moment in time before its forthcoming evolution.
Rising within the soaring form of the Burj Khalifa, Armani Hotel Dubai represents a rare fusion of fashion, architecture and hospitality. Designed personally by Giorgio Armani, the property is more than a luxury hotel. It is a physical expression of the designer’s philosophy of understated elegance, where every line, material and space reflects a commitment to refinement and simplicity.
This moment captures the hotel as it stands today, before its upcoming renovation. It is a portrait of the original vision. A place where architecture, interiors and lifestyle come together to create a distinctive environment shaped by Armani’s unmistakable aesthetic.
Occupying eleven floors of the world’s tallest tower, the hotel sits at the heart of Downtown Dubai, one of the city’s most dynamic districts. Its location places guests within steps of the Dubai Fountain and provides direct access to The Dubai Mall, one of the world’s largest retail and entertainment destinations.
Yet inside, the atmosphere shifts dramatically from the energy of the surrounding city. The interiors are intentionally calm and restrained. Soft lighting,

muted palettes and sculpted forms create a sense of quiet luxury. Armani’s design language avoids excess, instead focusing on proportion, texture and balance.
Every detail of the hotel reflects the designer’s hand. Custom furnishings, bespoke fabrics and carefully selected materials create an environment that feels both contemporary and timeless. The aesthetic echoes the philosophy that has defined Armani’s work for decades: elegance should never be loud, but it should always be unmistakable.
The guest accommodation follows the same design narrative. Armani Hotel Dubai features 160 rooms and suites, each crafted to embody comfort and sophistication. From the Armani Deluxe Rooms to the expansive Armani Signature Suites and the remarkable Armani Dubai Suite, spaces are defined by clean lines, warm wood tones and panoramic windows that frame the skyline. Some suites overlook the spectacular Dubai Fountain, where water, light and music perform nightly below the tower.
Beyond the rooms, the hotel unfolds as a curated lifestyle destination. Its restaurants and lounges form a culinary journey that mirrors the cosmopolitan spirit of Dubai itself.
At Armani/Ristorante, Giorgio Armani’s signature restaurant, Italian gastronomy takes center stage through refined tasting menus and seasonal ingredients. Armani/Amal celebrates the bold flavors of Indian cuisine in an elegant setting overlooking the fountain, while Armani/Hashi explores Japanese culinary artistry through sushi, robatayaki and omakase experiences.
Other venues extend the journey across cultures. Armani/Mediterraneo offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine throughout the day, while Armani/Deli captures the charm of an Italian gourmet market. At the heart of the hotel, Armani/Lounge has become one of Dubai’s most recognizable social spaces, famous for its gold cappuccino and refined afternoon tea overlooking the fountain.
Wellness forms another cornerstone of the experience. Armani/Spa, spanning approximately 12,000 square feet, offers a tranquil retreat from the city beyond its walls. Inspired by Armani’s lifestyle philosophy, the spa combines personalized treatments, thermal bathing experiences and relaxation spaces designed to restore balance and calm.
Over the years, the hotel’s distinctive approach to

luxury has been recognized internationally. It has been awarded the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for 2024, 2025 and 2026, placing it among the world’s most celebrated luxury hotels.
Yet perhaps the most defining element of Armani Hotel Dubai remains the vision behind it. Giorgio Armani once reflected on the philosophy that shaped the project, noting that the goal was never simply to create a hotel, but to create a complete lifestyle experience defined by elegance, comfort and authenticity. That philosophy continues to shape every aspect of the property today.
As the hotel prepares for its next chapter, it still retains the essence of the original creation. Armani Hotel Dubai stands not only as a landmark within the Burj Khalifa, but as a rare example of a hotel conceived entirely through the lens of a designer’s vision.
It is a place where fashion meets architecture, where hospitality becomes a form of design, and where a timeless aesthetic continues to define one of Dubai’s most distinctive luxury destinations.

In the mirror-polished surfaces of Gunjit Purswani’s chrome works, viewers encounter not only form, but their own reflection, shaped by iconography, aspiration, and how contemporary culture assigns value to images and objects. Working through the artistic lens of Mr. Apex, the New Delhi born, Dubai-based artist has developed a studio practice that moves between sculpture and painting, where childhood symbols, astronauts, and luxury automobiles are reframed as emblems of identity and authority. From largescale public commissions to collector-focused works placed in private and international contexts, Purswani’s practice examines how certain objects rise to cultural prominence and acquire meaning beyond their function.
Ahead of his exhibition Paint the Town Pop, we sat down with the artist to discuss authorship, ambition, and how symbols of aspiration gain cultural and financial weight.
YOU WORK UNDER THE ARTISTIC LENS “MR. APEX,” A NAME THAT ORIGINALLY CARRIED ITS OWN LAYERED MEANING. HOW DOES THIS PERSPECTIVE DIFFER FROM GUNJIT PURSWANI THE INDIVIDUAL, AND WHY WAS IT CREATIVELY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO ESTABLISH THAT DISTINCTION BETWEEN YOUR PERSONAL IDENTITY AND YOUR PROFESSIONAL STUDIO PRACTICE?
Mr. Apex is not a pseudonym. It is a conceptual framework for my practice across painting and sculpture. Gunjit is the individual shaped by lived experience, while Mr. Apex is the lens through which I examine symbolism, aspiration, and how desirability is created in contemporary culture. The studio executes at scale, but the conceptual direction is singular. That distinction clarified authorship. The work is not driven by production capacity. It is driven by inquiry. The lens
allows me to look at the symbols we chase and ask what they’re really doing to us. I want the work to feel inevitable, not trendy.
YOUR HIGHLY REFLECTIVE CHROME SCULPTURES HAVE BECOME A VISUAL SIGNATURE OF YOUR PRACTICE, INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE IN BOTH PUBLIC AND COLLECTOR CONTEXTS. WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO CHROME AS A MATERIAL, AND HOW DO YOU SEE ITS MIRRORLIKE QUALITY INTERACTING WITH YOUR BROADER EXPLORATION OF ASPIRATION, VALUE, AND SELF-PERCEPTION?
Chrome carries industrial discipline and aspirational language simultaneously. It references automotive bodies, precision hardware, and trophy surfaces. Before the form is interpreted, the material already
signals value. I was drawn to that pre-loaded meaning. I’m interested in that lineage where surface becomes content, from Pop through contemporary finish culture. The reflective surface also removes distance. When someone stands before a chrome sculpture, they are visually embedded within it. That shift is intentional. It transforms the object into an encounter. While chrome is central to the sculptural works, the same inquiry into aspiration and iconography extends into my paintings, particularly within the Soirée Series.
YOU’VE CREATED DISTINCT BODIES OF WORK SUCH AS NOSTALGIA IN CHROME, LOVE, MISPLACED, AND THE SOIRÉE SERIES. WHILE THEY APPEAR VISUALLY DIFFERENT, IS THERE AN UNDERLYING CONCEPTUAL THREAD THAT CONNECTS

06 His work has appeared in metro stations, public plazas, and private collections across India and Dubai
THEM ACROSS TIME, OR DOES EACH REPRESENT A SPECIFIC CULTURAL MOMENT WITHIN YOUR PRACTICE?
There is a consistent inquiry into how symbols acquire power. In Nostalgia in Chrome, I revisit childhood iconography and render it through the material language of luxury. A character once associated with innocence is reframed as a collectible artifact. In Love, Misplaced, the astronaut becomes a metaphor for containment and emotional distance. The polished surface suggests control. The gesture introduces vulnerability. In the Soirée Series, I stage luxury automobiles inside composed interiors. The car shifts from machine to emblem. Across all three, I am asking why certain symbols accumulate authority in a given moment.
IN THE SOIRÉE SERIES, YOU PLACE LUXURY AUTOMOBILES INSIDE CAREFULLY CURATED INTERIOR ENVIRONMENTS, OFTEN STAGING THEM WITH THE GRAVITY OF SACRED OBJECTS. WHAT FASCINATES YOU ABOUT CARS AS ICONOGRAPHY WITHIN YOUR WORK, AND WHY RECONTEXTUALIZE THEM IN THIS WAY?
Within my visual language, cars function as contemporary emblems. A Ferrari or Porsche represents more than engineering. It signifies beauty, form, sculptural silhouette, and sensuality. Much like a Birkin bag in fashion culture, the object carries layered social meaning beyond function. By placing the vehicle inside a composed interior setting, I shift the context. The car becomes subject. The room becomes framing. The automobile is one of the clearest contemporary emblems of aspiration, and I use it deliberately.
LOVE, MISPLACED PRESENTS ASTRONAUTS HOLDING FRAGILE SYMBOLS OF AFFECTION, RENDERED IN IMMACULATE CHROME.

THE CONTRAST BETWEEN EMOTIONAL VULNERABILITY AND ENGINEERED SURFACE IS STRIKING. WHAT WERE YOU EXPLORING THROUGH THAT JUXTAPOSITION?
The astronaut is engineered for survival in isolation. That imagery already carries emotional distance. When I pair that figure with a delicate symbol such as a heart, the contrast intensifies. The exterior reads as resilient. The gesture reads as vulnerable. The series reflects on how emotional expression operates within environments that prioritize performance and achievement. It’s about how we protect ourselves in systems that reward performance over vulnerability.
NOSTALGIA IN CHROME REVISITS CHILDHOOD CHARACTERS AND REIMAGINES THEM AS HIGH-GLOSS SCULPTURAL FORMS. WHEN YOU TRANSFORM THESE FAMILIAR FIGURES INTO MONUMENTAL, REFLECTIVE OBJECTS, IS IT NOSTALGIA, CRITIQUE, HOMAGE, OR SOMETHING MORE ANALYTICAL AT PLAY?
It is analytical. Childhood iconography once existed within private memory. Today it circulates within global licensing systems and collector markets. When I render those characters in chrome and elevate them in scale, the transformation becomes visible. The toy becomes artifact. I am studying that evolution. How innocence transitions into commodity. How memory becomes object. The series is observational.
YOUR SCULPTURES HAVE APPEARED IN PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTS, YET YOU ALSO PRODUCE PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES FOR SERIOUS PRIVATE COLLECTORS. HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE THE TENSION BETWEEN PUBLIC VISIBILITY AND THE EXCLUSIVITY OF COLLECTING CULTURE?
Context shifts perception. In public space, the work integrates into collective experience. In private collections, whether it is a chrome sculpture or a painting from the Soirée Series, the work enters a curated environment shaped by personal narrative. Whether it’s public or private, the work is built to hold presence. The setting changes the audience, not the standard.
YOU’VE COLLABORATED WITH MAJOR LIFESTYLE BRANDS LIKE HARLEYDAVIDSON, MINI COOPER, AND MG MOTOR. HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN YOUR CULTURAL STANCE WHILE WORKING WITHIN THOSE SYSTEMS?
I don’t see collaboration and critique as opposites. Brands like Harley-Davidson, Mini, or MG Motor shape identity and taste. A Mini or a Harley isn’t just a product, it’s a shorthand people use to communicate who they are. Working with brands allows me to see how value gets assigned in real time. The key is authorship. If a project aligns conceptually, it extends the inquiry. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t move forward. I’m interested in how taste is manufactured and how certain symbols become markers of status.
MR. APEX EXAMINES HOW CERTAIN OBJECTS RISE TO THE APEX OF CULTURAL DESIRE. HOW DOES THIS FRAMEWORK INFLUENCE YOUR DAY-TO-DAY CREATIVE DECISIONS AND THE WAY YOU CONSTRUCT A BODY OF WORK OVER THE LONG TERM?
It begins with observation. When a symbol keeps showing up in people’s lives, I ask what it’s promising them. Is it security? Status? Escape? From there, I translate that inquiry into form. Material, scale, and finish are decisions driven by meaning. I’m interested in understanding why certain symbols accumulate authority and building work that can sustain that inquiry over time.

06
IF YOU COULD CREATE AND INSTALL ONE MONUMENTAL WORK ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD - WITHOUT BUDGETARY, BUREAUCRATIC, OR LOGISTICAL CONSTRAINTS - WHERE WOULD YOU PLACE IT, AND WHAT WOULD YOU WANT IT TO COMMUNICATE WITHIN THAT SPECIFIC CONTEXT?
If given complete freedom, I would build a large-scale walk-in installation around the Soirée Series during Art Basel. The space would function as a constructed interior, with monumental paintings framing the environment and a chrome automobile form resolved at architectural scale at its center. The audience wouldn’t just view aspiration. They would physically enter it. That’s the scale where the work needs to operate.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE LONGTERM ARC OF YOUR PRACTICE, WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO BE KNOWN FOR BEYOND SPECIFIC MATERIALS, SURFACES, OR RECURRING MOTIFS?
Beyond chrome, beyond automobiles, beyond recurring motifs, I want the work to be understood as a sustained examination of how contemporary culture assigns meaning to objects. Materials will evolve. Forms will evolve. The symbols may shift with time. What should remain constant is the inquiry into authority, aspiration, and value - and the discipline of building work that holds its ground materially and conceptually. If the practice matures the way I intend it to, it won’t be remembered for a surface finish or a single series. It will be remembered for how consistently it examined the structures behind what we choose to elevate.

“ Their shared passion for precious stones led to an artistic collaboration resulting in Balanchine’s ballet Jewels, first presented in New York in April 1967. ”

Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels returns to New York with a new Festival bringing together 20 performances across multiple venues, showcasing a panorama of contemporary choreographic creation.
From the opening night, choreographic heritage meets contemporary creation with Biped/Mycelium by Merce Cunningham and Christos Papadopoulos, followed by The Age of Content by (LA)HORDE – Ballet national de Marseille, Lucinda Childs’ Early Works, and Reflections: A Triptych by Benjamin Millepied with L.A. Dance Project. The program also revisits landmark works linked to Robert Rauschenberg through Dancing with Bob: Rauschenberg, Brown & Cunningham Onstage, which includes Trisha Brown’s beloved Set and Reset alongside Cunningham’s Travelogue, a vaudevillian pièce de résistance featuring music by John Cage that has not been performed by a professional company since 1979.
Since the 1920s, Van Cleef & Arpels has maintained close ties with the world of dance. These were strengthened in the late 1940s when Claude Arpels met choreographer George Balanchine. Their shared passion for precious stones led to an artistic collaboration resulting in Balanchine’s ballet Jewels, first presented in New York in April 1967. Echoing this encounter, a new partnership was initiated in 2012 with Benjamin Millepied, former principal dancer at the New York City Ballet and founder of the L.A. Dance Project company. In 2020, the Maison’s commitment to dance was reaffirmed with the creation of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels.
In 2023, the first New York edition of the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival
marked a significant milestone in the program’s young history. Over several weeks, some ten different performances-including recent works and pieces from the contemporary repertoire-as well as dance workshops, provided a panorama of international choreographic creation. Holding a new Festival in the city in 2026 illustrates the dedication to highlighting the importance of this art form in cultural expression and society at large. The new program will enable a growing audience to discover a universe whose richness, still often underrecognized, has captivated and inspired the Maison for over 80 years.
Founded at Paris’ 22 Place Vendôme in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels came into being following Estelle Arpels’ marriage to Alfred Van Cleef in

1895. Over the decades, the excellence and creativity of the High Jewelry and Watchmaking Maison have established its reputation across the world. With a blend of inventiveness and poetry, Van Cleef & Arpels perpetuates a highly distinctive style that has produced numerous signatures: the Mystery Set technique, the Minaudière precious case, the transformable Zip necklace and the Alhambra motif. Its selection of gems that instill an emotion and the savoir-faire of its virtuoso craftsmen have given birth to enchanting jewelry and watchmaking collections. Whether inspired by nature, couture, dance or imaginary worlds, the Maison opens the gate to a timeless universe of beauty and harmony. The transmission of this exceptional craftsmanship, often unknown to the general public, has always been at the heart of the values of Van Cleef & Arpels. In 2012, the Maison therefore decided to create a unique entity in the world: L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, with the aim to share the culture of jewelry with the widest possible audience, through courses, talks, exhibitions and books.

“ It’s a blend of established might and nimble innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. ”

The desert air of Bahrain buzzed with an electric anticipation unlike any other. As guests of Oracle Red Bull Racing, Durrah Magazine was granted an exclusive glimpse behind the curtain of the Aramco F1 Pre-Season Testing – an experience made all the more poignant by the monumental news that echoed across the paddock: Ford is returning to Formula 1.
After a hiatus of more than two decades, the iconic American automaker is not just rejoining; they are forging a strategic technical partnership with Red Bull Powertrains, set to redefine the future of the sport with a next-generation hybrid power unit from the 2026 season onward.
Our journey began in the sophisticated confines of the Oracle Red Bull Racing Corporate Box, a hub of high-stakes strategy and cordial camaraderie. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as we chatted with key members of the team, their eyes bright with the promise of this groundbreaking alliance. The conversation flowed from the intricate demands of F1 engineering to the sheer excitement of Ford’s return, painting a vivid picture of innovation on the horizon.
Then came the moment that truly brought the racing dream to life: a tour inside the pit lane. The
sheer precision and orchestrated chaos of the team at work was breathtaking. Engineers moved with practiced grace, mechanics honed in on every detail, and the car itself, a marvel of modern technology, sat poised for battle. It was here, amidst the scent of fuel and burning rubber, that the true weight of the Ford partnership began to sink in.
The integration of Ford is far more than a branding exercise; it’s a profound technical and cultural shift. The team elaborated on how this partnership is actively changing Red Bull Powertrains’ technical development and team culture. Ford brings with it a colossal legacy of automotive innovation, vast R&D resources, and a deep-seated performance culture. This influx of expertise, particularly in areas like battery technology and electrification, is supercharging Red Bull’s own powertrain development. Culturally, it
introduces a fresh perspective, combining Ford’s robust engineering principles with Red Bull’s agile, aggressive pursuit of victory. It’s a blend of established might and nimble innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
As for the key performance and durability benchmarks for this test to be deemed a success, the focus was clear: meticulous data collection. Every lap, every adjustment, every sensor reading contributed to a vast tapestry of information. The benchmarks revolved around optimizing engine mapping, refining energy recovery systems (ERS), and ensuring the new hybrid components could withstand the immense stresses of F1. Reliability was paramount, as was achieving consistent power delivery under various conditions. Success wasn’t just about lap times, but about the foundational knowledge gained for the future.
Looking ahead, the question on every enthusiast’s mind was: Which specific F1 technologies are most likely to appear in future Ford performance cars? The answer was illuminating. Sustainable fuels, already a cornerstone of F1’s future, are a prime candidate for trickle-down. Ford’s commitment to electrification means advancements in ERS, including battery management and motorgenerator units, will undoubtedly find their way into high-performance road cars. Furthermore, the lightweight materials, advanced aerodynamics, and simulation tools developed for F1 will inevitably influence future Ford models, offering consumers a taste of true racing pedigree in their daily drives.
From 2026 to at least 2030, Red Bull Ford will proudly provide the power units for both the Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri teams. This long-term commitment signals a formidable new chapter in Formula 1. The pre-season testing was more than just a glimpse of the new car; it was an immersive experience into the dawn of a powerful new alliance. The roar of Ford is back, and with Oracle Red Bull Racing, it promises to be louder, faster, and more electrifying than ever before.

At LVMH Watch Week, Hublot unveiled the Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition, a watch trilogy celebrating the peerless career achievements of Hublot Ambassador Novak Djokovic, the greatest tennis player of all time.
Novak sealed his 101st professional tournament victory in November last year, adding yet more glory to a stellar career that has seen him claim almost every record in the sport. Among his career statistics are a record 24 Grand Slams, 1 gold medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and a record 428 weeks as the world number one tennis player. He has also ended the year as world number one a record of eight times. No one else comes close.
There are three expressions of the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition, each of which fuses material innovation, technical mastery and Hublot’s unique watchmaking approach to tell the story of Novak’s incomparable professional tennis career.
The watch comes in three colors aligned to the familiar colors of tennis’s three playing surfaces, and each variant is offered in a numbered sequence to follow Novak’s wins on each surface. Accordingly, there will be 72 pieces in blue, symbolizing Novak’s hard court wins; 21 in orange for his clay court wins; and, making it the most exclusive, eight in green for his wins on grass. The 101 watches are numbered but not limited. On the occasion of any future win, Hublot will add a further watch, colored according to the tournament surface.
The colors appear most prominently in the watch’s 44mm case, which is made of a special Hublot-developed composite made from Lacoste polos and Head tennis racquets. This high-tech, lightweight, rigid, marbled material is exclusive to Hublot and was also used in the Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic of 2024. For this series, 12 blue polos, 4 in orange and 2 in green were needed to

achieve the required volume of material, as well as 12 racquets. The result is a magical material infused with Novak’s spirit that will tell his story for eternity.
Alongside this is the case’s middle section, or container, which is formed from another advanced material called Titaplast®, the world’s strongest polymer. It has high-performance mechanical properties that are similar to titanium, can be machined to very fine tolerances, delivers an exceptional strength to weight ratio, and has a soft matte finish. It can also be colored using an anodisation process.
Novak’s incredible story continues in the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition’s movement, the highly conceptual MHUB6035 Automatic Tourbillon. In place of a traditional, solid mainplate to hold the movement components in place, Hublot’s engineers conceived an eye-catching three-dimensional lattice that takes the shape of tennis racquet strings. Each “string” is just 0.55mm thick and appears to be secured into the mainplate edge by attachment points that echo those found around the inner rim of a tennis racquet. The gaps between the strings are intentionally irregular, as they would be on a tennis racquet mid-match.
But while it may appear the mainplate is a series of individually twisted and weaved strings held in place by those attachment points, it is in fact a single piece, cleverly machined in a high-tech laser-engraving process.
Once it’s laser-engraved, the mainplate is then finished with a black PVD coating with a thickness of just a few microns, before Novak’s famous swooping personal “ND1” logo is printed over it in
01
contrasting white. It’s visually mesmerising and a glorious metaphor for Novak’s uncompromising, winning mentality and his many career achievements.
That’s not where the story ends. The barrel containing the movement’s mainspring that delivers 72 hours of power reserve is topped by a steel rochet decorated to look like a tennis ball that can be seen through the underside of the latticed mainplate. To achieve this effect, Hublot’s engineers innovated another process. First, a rhodium polish is applied to two S-shaped curves that run across the wheel’s surface. Then, the surface around these is precision laser-engraved to create a textured look resembling that of a tennis ball. Finally, that surface is finished with a yellow-green lacquer to complete the tennis ball look.
Further elegant touches include the movement’s aluminium tourbillon cage, which has been anodized in either blue, orange or green to match the case color. At 12 o’clock, the watch’s rhodiumplated, 22-carat red gold micro-rotor is machined and laser-engraved to reveal the Hublot logo. The movement comprises a total of 293 components.
Over its latticed “string” mainplate, the watch has a thin layer of transparent sapphire crystal that serves as a palette for six applied hour markers. Like the skeletonised hour and minute hands, these are satin-finished and then coated in a threedimensional layer of green luminescent SuperLumiNova® to ensure low-light legibility.
Beyond these primary components, the watch continues to point to Novak’s illustrious career in tennis. The strap is made of a white leather with

white stitching that is embossed so that it appears padded and patterned like the grip tape on tennis racquets. On the underside, the strap is lined with blue, orange or green leather to match the case. This is fastened by a Velcro® loop that folds through a color-matched anodized aluminium buckle.
The six titanium screws that hold the composite bezel in place are shaped like tennis balls. This might sound like a simple aesthetic twist, but as well as creating a bespoke programme for machining these unique screws, Hublot’s engineers had to design a special S-shaped screwdriver head that could tighten the screws, a process reminiscent of one developed previously for the Big Bang’s famous H-shaped screw heads.
The dial ring, crown, remaining case screws and Hublot “One-Click” quick-strap change system pushers are all in anodized aluminium. To underline the steeliness and strength Novak is famed for, the crystal used both on the front and back of the
watch is chemically strengthened Gorilla Glass, a highly durable, scratch-resistant material. The watch is supplied with a second strap in white rubber with a titanium deployant clasp for use during exercise. To complete the story, the case back is held in place by a colored aluminium ring carrying the edition number, which initially will be 1 to 72 in blue, 1 to 21 in orange and 1 to 8 in green. Further numbered pieces will be added when Novak adds another title to his career total. The case back also carries the words “Greatest of All Time”. These details are all engraved and finished in white lacquer. Together, these elements result in a watch weighing only 56 grammes, and that has been designed to withstand the forces a watch experience when worn during play. It’s a highly inventive, memorable tribute to Hublot Ambassador Novak Djokovic, the GOAT.

In the ever-changing world of fashion, where trends fade as quickly as they emerge, few names carry the enduring influence of Valentino Garavani. A central figure in Italian alta moda, Valentino built a legacy defined by elegance, precision, and unmistakable glamour. As Durrah Magazine continues to celebrate the pinnacle of global luxury and craftsmanship, we turn our focus to the designer who helped shape one of fashion’s most refined and recognizable aesthetics.
Architecture of a Legend
Born in Voghera, Italy, in 1932, Valentino Garavani approached fashion with a clear and disciplined vision. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he opened his first salon on Rome’s Via Condotti in 1960, quickly establishing a reputation for elegance, precision, and an uncompromising attention to detail. For Valentino, true luxury was never about spectacle, but about craftsmanship and a refined understanding of the feminine silhouette.
Over the next five decades, Valentino’s atelier dressed some of the world’s most influential women. From Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor to contemporary figures across Hollywood and the Middle East, a Valentino gown became synonymous with quiet prestige and enduring style.
“Rosso Valentino”: The Color of Passion
No discussion of Valentino Garavani would be complete without a reflection on his most enduring legacy: Valentino Red. The distinctive shade became the house’s signature, instantly recognizable on runways and red carpets alike. Valentino often traced
its inspiration to a childhood memory of seeing a woman dressed in red at the opera in Barcelona, an image that stayed with him throughout his life.
For Valentino, red represented confidence, glamour, and presence. Over the decades, Rosso Valentino evolved into one of fashion’s most enduring visual signatures, worn by women who understood the quiet power of a striking silhouette and impeccable craftsmanship. In the pages of Durrah, we have often explored the psychology of luxury, and nothing encapsulates this better than a woman in a “Rosso Valentino” gown.
Couture as High Art
Valentino’s reputation was built on an unwavering commitment to couture. At a time when fashion increasingly moved toward speed and scale, he remained devoted to the traditions of the petites mains, the artisans who spent countless hours perfecting lace, embroidery, and delicate hand-finishing.
This dedication to craftsmanship is the bridge that connects Valentino to the values we hold dear at Durrah Magazine. Whether we are covering the precision of a
Swiss tourbillon, the brilliance of a high-jewelry necklace, or the lines of a bespoke yacht, we recognize the same spirit of excellence that Valentino poured into his work.
The Valentino Lifestyle: Beyond the Runway
Valentino Garavani’s influence extended far beyond the runway, shaping the way luxury was imagined and lived. The world he created reflected the same elegance that defined his designs, from the historic Château de Wideville outside Paris to his yacht T.M. Blue One, where art, travel, and design formed a seamless backdrop to a life devoted to beauty and refinement.
For the Durrah community, Valentino represents the “Last Emperor” of a golden age—a time when travel was an event, dining was a ceremony, and fashion was a lifelong commitment to beauty. He understood that luxury was an ecosystem, present in the fragrance of a room, the art on its walls, and the grace with which one moves through it.
The Modern Legacy
Though Valentino retired from his namesake house in 2008, his influence continues to shape the brand,

guiding successive creative directors while the hallmarks of his vision-the lace, the bows, the precise tailoring, and the subtle Roman sense of romance-remain intact. His legacy reminds us that even as the world moves faster, the human desire for beauty endures, and the “Valentino way” invites us to pause and appreciate the artistry behind the objects we live with.
Looking back on Valentino Garavani’s career, it’s clear his reach went beyond fashion, touching the way we think about style and elegance. He showed that elegance could elevate the everyday, transforming the red carpet into a stage for artistry and turning the act of dressing into a quiet assertion of dignity.
At Durrah Magazine, we honor Valentino for the dresses that graced our covers, the trends he set, and above all, for his enduring belief that the world is richer when it is touched by beauty. He remains, in every sense, the eternal emperor of style.
“I know what women want. They want to be beautiful.” - Valentino Garavani

Zegna’s Fall/Winter 2026 collection is rooted in memory, continuity, and enduring craftsmanship.
The closet is much more than a space in which pieces of clothing are stored, protected and kept, acknowledging their endurance and upholding their value. It is a shrine in which the beauty of cherished items is celebrated, their memory preserved to be reenacted, their existence momentarily held captive until they are released again, endlessly. As a space of instinct and intuition, of thought and continuity, the family closet, ultimately, is a singular inheritance which keeps growing as generations meet through the act of wearing. It is the territory of endless encounters that happen over the span of several lifetimes, accumulating traces of lived lives that are passed on.
Set in an imaginary closet filled with real items coming from Gildo Zegna, Group Executive Chairman, and Paolo Zegna, both members of the third generation of the Zegna family - personal pieces, as well as clothing inherited from their ancestors - this ZEGNA collection originates in a deeply rooted love for weaving cloth and wearing clothes. A love so strong, the idea of throwing anything away is an unbearable, impossible prospect. Within this closet, a museum-like glass display case preserves “ABITO N.1”: the first suit, crafted in the 1930s, Su Misura, for Count Ermenegildo Zegna, in 100% Australian wool.

Giorgio Armani Prive’s Spring/ Summer 2026 collection introduces a renewed vision of couture.
This collection marks the debut of Silvana Armani who, in the spirit of continuity, offers her feminine gaze on fashion: coherent yet distinct, idealized yet grounded. The evolution of Privé is discernible in a refinement that takes on the delicate tones of jade – green, pink and white – set against the graphic contrast of black. The harmony symbolized by this stone, with its unique hues, is echoed in fluid, vertical silhouettes of satin and silk. Everything rests gracefully on the body: masculine-inspired tailoring, precise jackets stripped of structure, embroidered bustiers worn with masculine-tailored trousers, column dresses animated by skillful cuts and draping, midi-length tunics that open to reveal trousers with an exacting cut, and pullovers in fine fringing. Sophisticated embroidery adorns the garments or materializes in unexpected details, such as trompe l’oeil pocket squares on jackets.

Burberry’s 2026 Winter collection reclaims the electric spirit of London after dark.
Streetlamps bleeding into slick black tarmac. The Winter 2026 collection returns Burberry to the city and to going out in a particularly London way. This season is less about the destination and more about the pulse. In a world shaped by algorithms, the abstract landscape of the night can still flank you with a thousand possibilities. Whereas Winter 2025 and Summer 2026 saw an exodus to the countryside and outdoor music scenes, Winter 2026 is pure street currency: Hackney carriages glide down wet roads; night buses hum with tinny phone speakers. Under Lee, the tension between heritage and youth isn’t a clash – it’s a spark. ‘Everyone’s going somewhere. Everyone’s going out,’ he says of the season’s characters.

Bloomilu began with a feeling. That quiet moment when a space changes because someone has entered, when the atmosphere shifts before a single word is spoken. Some individuals do not simply move through a space. They define it. Bloomilu exists for them.
The journey across France and Italy was never about finding suppliers. It was about finding rare independent artisans who create with intention and intensity. No machines. No shortcuts. No mass-produced luxury. Only craftsmanship shaped by precision, patience, and devotion to the art of atmosphere. Bloomilu was never created to please everyone.
The name carries its own meaning. Bloom, the moment presence becomes undeniable. ILU, a quiet affirmation, turned inward. Together, Bloomilu represents a way of living for individuals who move with intention and refuse to fade into the background. It is not designed to be seen first. It is designed to be felt.
Bloomilu is handcrafted in Italy to shape environments rather than simply fragrance them. When experienced, the effect is subtle but unmistakable. The mood of a room changes. The
space feels claimed. The atmosphere becomes personal. Individuals rarely describe what they smell. Instead, they speak about memory, emotion, and presence. A familiar feeling, a forgotten moment, a version of themselves they recognize again. This is not fragrance as an accessory. It is atmosphere taking form.
Bloomilu is not created for mass visibility or seasonal consumption. Each piece is prepared individually and distributed selectively across Europe and the Gulf. It belongs in private residences, personal spaces, and environments where atmosphere is part of identity. Because Bloomilu does not simply scent a room. It changes how the space is experienced. This was never only our story. It becomes the story of the space it inhabits. Bloomilu doesn’t whisper. It reigns.

In
the winding streets of Icherisheher, Baku’s UNESCO-protected Old City, Azerbaijani artist Anar Huseynzade finds inspiration for works that bridge tradition and modernity. Blending Azerbaijani decorative heritage with modern abstraction, his paintings are gaining international attention from Paris to Basel.
YOU BEGAN DRAWING AT AGE SIX-AN ALMOST PROPHETIC START. WHAT REMAINS IN YOU FROM THAT CHILD AT THE HOUSE OF PIONEERS? WHEN DID ART SHIFT FROM CHILDHOOD PASSION TO LIFE’S PATH?
I began painting at the age of six, and within a few years I achieved success as a child artistwinning first place in competitions and truly feeling like a painter. At that time, I believed life would always remain carefree and effortless. However, soon after, Azerbaijan went through severe economic difficulties following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and I had to struggle greatly simply to remain in art. I had strong ambitions and big dreams - to participate in major exhibitions, to create remarkable works, and to be widely recognized. But after the age of forty, those ambitions gradually faded. Slowly, I tried to free myself from ambition and ego. Now, when I stand in the studio in front of the canvas, I feel that there is no ego and no ambition between me and the painting. I work for myself, and sometimes I feel that at this age the child within me has somehow returned.
YOUR PROCESS IS REMARKABLY INTUITIVENOT KNOWING THE FINAL RESULT WHEN YOU BEGIN. HOW DOES THIS SURRENDER TO THE UNKNOWN INTERACT WITH THE STRUCTURED ORNAMENTAL PATTERNS YOU INCORPORATE?
I rarely use sketches; instead, I start directly with color. Often, I first use the canvas of my next work almost like a palette. Layers of color gradually
accumulate on its surface, and when I begin the new painting, I add fresh colors on top, enriching the texture of the canvas. During this process, a theme or image slowly begins to reveal itself. I feel that the mind can sometimes interfere with creative freedom. When I work primarily through feeling, I often discover new colors and new forms almost unconsciously. Toward the end I begin to engage the mind more consciously and complete the work with it. In a sense, I begin with feeling and finish with reason.
CRITICS NOTE YOUR “AFFINITY WITH ANCIENT CITIES, PARTICULARLY ICHERISHEHER”, YET YOUR TREATMENT FEELS CONTEMPORARY RATHER THAN NOSTALGIC. HOW DO YOU AVOID ROMANTICIZING THE PAST WHILE HONORING ITS VISUAL POWER?
In general, old monuments and ancient cities deeply inspire me. Much of my work is dedicated to the landscapes of Absheron and Icherisheher. Perhaps the reason I sometimes include contemporary elements in my depictions of Icherisheher is that Baku today is a large modern city. All around it there is a vast modern environment, and Icherisheher seems almost as if it has quietly hidden itself within this overwhelming modernity. Although I deeply love Icherisheher - a place where centuries, even millennia of memory and history live - it is still surrounded by the modern world. This balance naturally appears in my paintings as well. In my vision of Icherisheher, antiquity and modernity coexist.
WITH INCREASING INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE, HOW DO YOU NEGOTIATE GLOBAL MARKET EXPECTATIONS WITH THE LOCAL STORIES YOU WISH TO TELL?
In my work there are several different directions. I paint cityscapes, Absheron landscapes, abstractions, still lifes with ceramic vessels, and works inspired by archaeology. At the same time, I also create figurative paintings and thematic compositions. Sometimes these subjects are connected to Azerbaijan, but very often they explore broader, universal themes. I frequently turn to subjects from Islam and Christianity, as well as Greek mythology. More generally, I am interested in Eastern mythology. These are themes that are familiar to many people, and the questions they raise have concerned humanity for thousands of years.
YOUR WORK IS HELD IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS ACROSS THE USA, UK, SWITZERLAND, TURKEY, GREECE, AUSTRALIA, AND NORWAY. REMOVED FROM BAKU’S LIGHT AND CULTURAL FRAMEWORK, WHAT DO YOU HOPE VIEWERS PERCEIVE WHEN THEY ENCOUNTER YOUR PAINTINGS?
I would say that nearly ninety percent of my works are now in foreign countries. Some collectors acquired them without knowing me personally, while others are people who know me well. Every artwork carries a message. Each piece is a reflection of my inner world. I feel very happy when viewers and collectors find something meaningful in my

works - sometimes even noticing things I had not consciously intended. I also like to say that every artwork has its own address. Each piece eventually finds its place somewhere, often hanging in a particular home. There are always many paintings in the studio, and I cannot personally take care of all of them. But collectors and art lovers take them, care for them, and show them love.
YOU STAND AT AN INTERESTING JUNCTURE: ESTABLISHED IN AZERBAIJAN, GAINING INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION, YET STILL SEEKING “NEW HORIZONS AND CREATIVE ADVENTURES”. WHAT FRONTIERS REMAIN UNEXPLORED?
Perhaps the fortunate thing about artists is that they never completely lose touch with their
childhood. We all draw as children, and later each of us learns a particular profession or craft. Artists, however, are those who continue to paint with something of that childlike spirit even in adulthood. The enthusiasm of childhood, the sense of wonder, and the ability to see the world with a certain purity - these feelings often remain with artists. Even now, when I begin a new work in front of the canvas, I still feel a kind of childlike excitement. It often seems as though it is the very first time I am starting a painting. At that moment, all previous experience seems to fade, and I do not know exactly what will appear on the canvas. This excitement - the desire to create - continually opens new horizons.

In 2026, Saudi Arabia reveals itself as a destination of rare contrast and confidence. High-energy capitals meet ancient landscapes, contemporary culture meets deep heritage, and barefoot island luxury balances worldclass spectacle. This is a country inviting the curious, the cultured, and the well-traveled to experience its most dynamic chapter yet.
Saudi Arabia in 2026 is alive with momentum, color, and creative ambition. From the moment you arrive, the country unfolds as a sequence of distinct yet seamlessly connected experiences, each offering its own rhythm, aesthetic, and sense of place. Whether you are drawn to cosmopolitan energy, cultural depth, or nature at its most dramatic, Saudi offers a journey that feels both expansive and effortlessly curated.
Riyadh stands at the center of this transformation. A city driven by vision and scale, the capital blends striking architecture with a fast-evolving cultural and culinary scene. Design-led districts, galleries, and museums sit alongside refined dining and a nightlife that reflects the city’s growing global confidence. In 2026, Riyadh’s calendar is as ambitious as its skyline. Riyadh Season once again turns the city into a playground of concerts, immersive entertainment, and headline-making events. The WWE Royal Rumble arrives as a global first outside North America, while the Saudi Cup brings equestrian prestige back to the international spotlight. LIV Golf, elite combat sports, and top-tier tennis reinforce the city’s position as a global sporting hub. For thrill seekers, Six Flags Qiddiya introduces Falcon’s Flight, the world’s longest, tallest, and fastest roller coaster, while the arrival of the Michelin Guide Saudi signals Riyadh’s emergence as a serious culinary capital.
Just beyond the capital, Diriyah offers a powerful contrast. As the birthplace of Saudi Arabia, it is a place where history is not preserved behind glass but lived through space, architecture, and atmosphere. The UNESCO-listed At-Turaif district rises in sculpted mudbrick elegance, its palaces and pathways restored
with care and reverence. Across the valley, Bujairi Terrace has become one of the Kingdom’s most evocative dining destinations, with world-class restaurants overlooking the softly illuminated historic site. Creativity thrives in the JAX District, and in 2026, the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale once again transforms the area into a magnet for artists, collectors, and cultural tastemakers.
Further north, AlUla feels almost otherworldly. Towering sandstone formations, vast canyons, and ancient carved tombs create a landscape of extraordinary beauty and silence. In 2026, AlUla’s cultural calendar is rich and immersive, from the restorative AlUla Wellness Festival to the Ancient Kingdoms Festival and the return of Desert X AlUla, where contemporary art is set directly into the desert. Desert Polo, the Half Marathon, and curated cultural experiences add to the sense of discovery. As the only destination in the GCC with International Dark Sky certification, AlUla offers some of the clearest night skies on Earth, with stargazing across Gharameel, Raggasat Valley, and Ashar Valley. Nighttime experiences at Hegra illuminate Nabataean tombs beneath the stars, while Maraya continues to host world-class performances inside its iconic mirrored structure.
On the Red Sea coast, Jeddah brings warmth, culture, and an effortless cosmopolitan spirit. Historic Jeddah’s coral-stone buildings and carved wooden balconies glow at sunset, offering a glimpse into the city’s maritime past. Today, the city balances heritage with contemporary energy through creative spaces, galleries, and a dining scene that feels both authentic and international. TeamLab Borderless
Jeddah adds a futuristic layer, inviting visitors into immersive digital environments, while the Corniche hums with promenades, marinas, cafés, and social life that stretches late into the evening. In March 2026, global attention returns with the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as cars race along the waterfront circuit in one of the most visually striking stops on the calendar.
For pure escapism, the Saudi Red Sea delivers a vision of barefoot luxury unlike anywhere else. Crystalclear waters, pristine coral reefs, and untouched islands define a coastline designed for serenity and refinement. Shura Island is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most anticipated resort destinations, where contemporary architecture blends seamlessly into the natural environment. New openings such as SLS Red Sea and The Red Sea EDITION join standout properties including Shebara’s futuristic overwater villas and the dramatic, cliff-carved Desert Rock. Days unfold slowly here, with snorkeling, diving, wellness rituals, and sundrenched calm offering the perfect counterbalance to the energy of the cities.
What makes Saudi Arabia truly compelling in 2026 is the ease with which these worlds connect. In a single journey, travelers can move from roller coasters and Michelin-starred dining in Riyadh to ancestral pathways in Diriyah, from starlit desert silence in AlUla to waterfront glamour in Jeddah, and finally to island serenity on the Red Sea. Wherever you go, Saudi welcomes you with warmth, flavor, and experiences that linger long after the journey ends.

Across centuries and cultures, Islamic architecture has explored geometry as a path to understanding the order of the universe. Through pattern, proportion and light, architects sought to express spiritual harmony in built form. Centuries later, many of these ideas would resonate in the work of Antoni Gaudí, whose visionary architecture drew on Mediterranean traditions shaped in part by Islamic design.
Architecture has long been one of the most visible expressions of Islamic civilization. From the earliest mosques to the great palaces and cities of the medieval Islamic world, builders used form, proportion and ornament to communicate deeper spiritual ideas. Geometry, light and repeating patterns were not simply aesthetic choices. They reflected a belief that the physical world reveals traces of a higher, divine order.
Islamic architecture developed a distinctive visual language rooted in mathematics. Geometric patterns formed from stars, circles and interlocking polygons appear across mosques, madrasas and palaces throughout the Islamic world. These designs could expand infinitely, creating intricate surfaces that suggested the limitless nature of creation. Rather than focusing on figurative representation, builders relied on abstract geometry and calligraphy to convey spiritual meaning.
Spain became one of the most important places where these ideas flourished. For centuries, much of the Iberian Peninsula formed part of Al-Andalus, where Islamic scholars, craftsmen and architects created remarkable monuments that blended science, art and
engineering. The Alhambra in Granada, with its astonishing geometric tilework and delicate carved ornament, remains one of the clearest examples of how mathematics and architecture merged in Islamic design.
Even after the political decline of Muslim rule in Spain, many Islamic artistic traditions continued to shape architecture through the Mudéjar style. This architectural language combined Islamic decorative techniques with Christian building forms. Brickwork patterns, ceramic tile surfaces, horseshoe arches and intricate geometric designs became enduring elements of Spanish architecture.
It was within this cultural landscape that Antoni Gaudí came of age in nineteenth century Catalonia. Although his work is often described as radically original, Gaudí was deeply interested in historical traditions and the structural logic behind them. The architectural environment of Spain still carried visible traces of Islamic design, particularly in the use of patterned surfaces, complex geometry and ornamental brickwork.
Gaudí was fascinated by geometry as both a structural and aesthetic tool. Islamic architects had long explored geometry not only as decoration
but as a system capable of generating entire architectural compositions. Through simple geometric constructions, craftsmen could create star patterns, tessellations and repeating forms that extended across walls, domes and courtyards. These patterns revealed how mathematics could shape both structure and ornament.
In Gaudí’s work, geometry plays a similarly central role. He experimented with forms derived from nature and mathematics, using ruled surfaces, parabolic arches and complex structural systems to create buildings that seemed both organic and precisely ordered. This search for harmony between structure and form echoes the geometric logic that defined Islamic architectural tradition.
Surface treatment also provides a striking parallel. Islamic architecture often transforms walls into fields of intricate pattern through tilework, carved plaster and patterned brick. These surfaces catch light and shadow in constantly shifting ways, giving buildings a sense of movement and depth. Gaudí employed a comparable approach in his use of colorful ceramic tiles and textured façades, where surfaces shimmer and change under sunlight.

His early work, particularly Casa Vicens, shows clear traces of Spanish Mudéjar influence. The building’s patterned tile surfaces, geometric motifs and ornamental brickwork reflect a Mediterranean tradition shaped partly by centuries of Islamic craftsmanship. Although Gaudí would later develop a more fluid architectural language, these early projects demonstrate how Islamic design traditions formed part of the artistic environment in which he worked.
The deeper connection lies in a shared philosophical outlook. Islamic architecture often reflects the idea that geometry reveals divine harmony within creation. By arranging patterns according to precise mathematical relationships, architects symbolically expressed unity and order. Gaudí held a similar belief that nature itself followed mathematical laws that could guide architectural design.
For Gaudí, structure, ornament and meaning were inseparable. His buildings do not treat decoration as something applied to finished surfaces. Instead, form and pattern emerge from the same underlying geometric principles. His work echoes the logic of Islamic architecture, where pattern grows organically from mathematical systems.
Although separated by centuries, Islamic architects and Gaudí both pursued architecture as a reflection of deeper truths about the universe. Geometry provided a bridge between art, science and spirituality. Through pattern, proportion and structure, architecture became a way to visualize order within the world.

In a city where culinary traditions run as deep as its history, few chefs dare to bridge the vast divide between two of the world’s most revered food cultures. Yet in the heart of New Delhi, INJA stands as a testament to what happens when meticulous Japanese craftsmanship collides with the bold, soulful spirit of Indian cooking. This is not fusion for the sake of novelty-it is a carefully orchestrated dialogue between ancient philosophies, a restaurant where dashi and dal find common ground, where the precision of kaiseki meets the warmth of daawat. We sat down with Adwait Anantwar, the Chef Partner behind this audacious venture, to understand the journey, the obsession, and the relentless pursuit of balance that brought INJA to life. 01
ADWAIT, LET’S START AT THE BEGINNINGWHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO THE KITCHEN? WAS THERE A PARTICULAR MOMENT, A FAMILY INFLUENCE, A MENTOR WHO TOOK YOU UNDER THEIR WING, OR EVEN A SPECIFIC DISH THAT SPARKED YOUR PASSION FOR COOKING AND MADE YOU REALIZE THIS WAS MORE THAN JUST A JOB, BUT A CALLING?
I think I’ve always been intrigued by cooking. In my family, especially on my mother’s side, there are a lot of family members who love to cook. My grandmother, my mom, both of her sisters and even my mom’s brother were all great cooks so I guess you could say it runs in the genes. When I was younger I used to stand next to my mom in the kitchen and just watch what she was doing. In India when we cook we often add mustard seeds to hot oil at the beginning. Somehow my instincts would tell me the exact moment they were about to crackle. It always felt very natural to me, almost like cooking was something I just understood instinctively. Growing up I also found myself choosing cooking shows over cartoons most of the time. So I guess that probably influenced me as well and helped shape my interest in cooking.
YOUR PATH EVENTUALLY LED TO CREATING INJA, A BOLD JAPANESE-INDIAN FUSION
CONCEPT THAT IS RELATIVELY UNEXPLORED IN DELHI’S DINING LANDSCAPE. WALK US THROUGH THAT JOURNEY-WHERE DID YOU TRAIN IN THESE TWO DISTINCT CULINARY TRADITIONS, WHAT EXPERIENCES SHAPED YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF BOTH, AND WHAT WAS THE PIVOTAL ‘AHA MOMENT’ THAT MADE YOU BELIEVE THIS FUSION COULD NOT ONLY WORK, BUT TRULY RESONATE WITH DINERS?
I think there are two aspects to why I decided to work with Japanese cuisine. First of all, I had never actually been trained in Japanese food. I had never worked in a Japanese restaurant, never worked with a Japanese chef and I had not even been to Japan. One of the reasons goes back to my childhood. Growing up I was compared a lot. In the part of the world we come from there is always comparison with friends and cousins. Someone is getting into a better college, someone is scoring more marks and later someone is getting a better job or a higher salary. Of course parents want us to do better but I always hated being compared. So when I realized that I wanted to become a chef I also knew that I wanted to do something that had never been done before. The second thing that really triggered this idea was when I became very intrigued by Nikkei cuisine. About three and a half years into my career I started learning more about it. Nikkei cuisine is a mix

of Peruvian and Japanese food. I was actually hoping to work at a Nikkei restaurant in Dubai but that did not work out. Even so I kept studying it and thinking about it. Seeing how two very different cultures like Peru and Japan could come together so organically made me wonder why Indian and Japanese cuisines could not do the same. My base was always Indian cuisine and I wanted to stay connected to that. At the same time I wanted to create something different, something that had never really been done before. Professionally I have never been trained in Japanese food. I actually started out as an Indian chef in Dubai. At that time I was looking to work in a modern Indian restaurant. Dubai is such a multicultural city with restaurants from all kinds of cuisines and I think that really helped shape my thought process. Being surrounded by so many amazing restaurants exposed me to a lot of different ideas. For me working with food is a lot like creating music. I often say that because I come from a family that has a strong connection with music. If you think about it, when someone wants to play rock music today they do not need to go back to the original rock era to learn it. In a similar way I feel it is the same with food. If I want to cook Japanese food I do not necessarily have to go to Japan to learn it. There is so much knowledge available today and if you develop a real sense and understanding of a cuisine it becomes possible to cook it even without being there. So professionally I have never trained or worked in Japanese cuisine but I was still able to explore and learn about it in my own way.
JAPANESE AND INDIAN CUISINES BOTH HAVE DEEP, ANCIENT TRADITIONS, YET THEY SIT AT ALMOST OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE CULINARY SPECTRUM IN TERMS OF TECHNIQUE, PHILOSOPHY, AND FLAVOR. WHAT WAS THE ORIGINAL VISION BEHIND INJA WHEN YOU FIRST CONCEIVED IT, AND HOW DO YOU PERSONALLY DEFINE THIS UNIQUE CULINARY MARRIAGE-DO YOU SEE IT AS A DIALOGUE, A COLLABORATION, OR SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY?
To be very honest I do not think there is one thing that can clearly define the kind of cuisine I do. There is no fixed thought process behind it. Just like in a person’s life, things keep evolving. When we first started I had a certain philosophy. After a year it changed. After two years it changed even more and after three years it became a little different again. That is natural because we all humans are products of evolution and the way we think keeps changing over time. So I would say the cuisine itself is constantly evolving. Even now I am still trying to understand what the real thought process behind Indian and Japanese cuisine together could be. But if I had to set a baseline, it is really about bringing the sensibilities of both cuisines together. It is not simply about taking an Indian ingredient and applying a Japanese technique

or taking a Japanese ingredient and applying an Indian technique. If that was the case we would just be doing things like butter chicken sushi, which is not what we are trying to do. It is more about understanding the cultural references, the eating habits and the way similar ingredients are used in both cultures. For example in west Bengal there is a dish called panta bhat, which is basically overnight fermented rice that is often eaten for breakfast. In Japan rice is also a very important part of breakfast, even though it is not fermented in the same way. When I noticed that both cultures have this idea of eating rice in the morning, I found a common ground between them. So a dish can come together by connecting those cultural habits rather than forcing two things together. Indian and Japanese cuisines may seem like complete opposites but there is always a way to bring two different cultures together in a thoughtful and sensible way.
FUSION CUISINE CAN SOMETIMES FEEL FORCED OR GIMMICKY WHEN NOT EXECUTED THOUGHTFULLY. HOW DO YOU ENSURE THAT EVERY DISH AT INJA FEELS LIKE A NATURAL, RESPECTFUL CONVERSATION BETWEEN JAPANESE AND INDIAN CULINARY TRADITIONS RATHER THAN A RANDOM COLLISION OF
INGREDIENTS ON A PLATE? WHAT IS YOUR LITMUS TEST FOR AUTHENTICITY?
Yes, I mean you are absolutely right about fusion cuisine. And to be very honest there is no litmus test for it. There is no SOP and there are no fixed steps that I follow to decide whether a dish qualifies or does not qualify. For me it is more about the overall feel of the dish. Whenever I create something it is never a 50-50 mix of Indian and Japanese. It is more about references, like I mentioned earlier. It could be a reference to certain ingredients or the way an ingredient is treated in a particular cuisine. The important thing is to treat the ingredients with respect and to make sure the idea makes technical sense and pays respect to the craft. There is really no strict rule or formula to it. I would say the only real test is how the dish feels to me. If I like the idea of it, if I like the sound of it, if it looks good, tastes good and also makes sense technically, then it earns its place on the menu, because there were certain dishes which were good but never made it to the final menu as they didn’t give the right feeling.
SOME OF YOUR TECHNIQUES MUST CREATE FASCINATING CROSSOVERS-TATAKI MEETING THE TANDOOR, MISO GLAZES MEETING MUSTARD SEED TEMPERING, OR DASHI BUILDING BLOCKS MEETING INDIAN
Inja welcomes guests to experience a

STOCK PREPARATIONS. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST SURPRISING OR SUCCESSFUL TECHNIQUE CROSSOVER TO DATE, AND CONVERSELY, WHAT COMBINATION REQUIRED THE MOST PERSISTENCE, TRIAL AND ERROR, AND REFINEMENT BEFORE IT FINALLY WORKED?
I can give you two examples from the menu that explain how we approach ideas and techniques. Technique based - One of them is a dish called Banana Bonito which appears in our tasting menu. There is a bread course inspired by Mangalorean buns. These are deep fried breads from Mangalore where the dough is made with overripe bananas and fermented overnight. Traditionally they are eaten for breakfast with a spicy curry and a cup of filter coffee. We took this breakfast plate from Mangalore and reimagined it as a bread course. We make Mangalorean buns using ripe bananas, but instead of serving them with the traditional curry we convert that idea into a sago curry butter. Along with this we serve something called Banana Bonito. The idea comes from katsuobushi, which is made from skipjack tuna that is fermented, smoked and dried over a long period of time until it becomes extremely hard and is then shaved into thin flakes. We take that same technique and apply it to ripe banana. The bananas are brushed with palm sugar and then slowly smoked and dehydrated multiple times. Over time the banana becomes very firm, almost like a piece of wood. At the end we shave it on a katsuobushi slicer just like bonito. What you get are delicate shavings of sweet, smoky, caramelised banana which almost feel like a candy, and we serve that with the bread course. Another example is Yuzu Kosho with freshly grated coconut. We marinate our shrimps in this and simply grill them and finish off the dish with some shrimp head oil where flavours work beautifully. I would also like to mention the Koji chicken wings, here we have created a Teriyaki sauce with Indian ingredients like - Tamarind and Jaggery and we finish the wings with some smoked Kashmiri chilli powder.
INJA IS CARVING OUT AN ENTIRELY NEW NICHE IN DELHI’S COMPETITIVE DINING SCENE, ONE THAT COULD INFLUENCE HOW FUTURE CHEFS APPROACH CROSSCULTURAL CUISINE IN INDIA. WHERE DO YOU SEE JAPANESE-INDIAN FUSION EVOLVING OVER THE NEXT DECADE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND WHAT LEGACY DO YOU HOPE INJA LEAVES BEHIND-NOT JUST AS A RESTAURANT, BUT AS A PHILOSOPHY THAT INSPIRES THE NEXT GENERATION OF CULINARY INNOVATORS?
I am really happy that you asked this question because it takes me back to when we first started. To be honest I was always a little afraid that we might
have to shut the restaurant within six months. Indian Japanese cuisine had never really been explored seriously or at all, so I did not know if people would understand it or connect with it. Somehow we managed to make it work. Of course we worked very hard for it. Not just the kitchen team but also the service team played a huge role. They were always on top of things, patiently explaining the dishes and the whole concept to the guests. Sometimes my ideas can be a little abstract to explain, but they have done a beautiful job translating that to the diners. I also have to say that doing Indian Japanese cuisine is not easy. For me it felt difficult in the beginning because there was no real reference point. I was figuring things out as I went along. But I genuinely hope that more young chefs and students get inspired by it and start exploring this space further. In fact it would make me very happy if more chefs started doing their own interpretations of Indian Japanese cuisine. It is always a compliment when people take inspiration from something you started and try to take it forward in their own way. That is how cuisines evolve. If I look at the broader dining scene in India, when I was studying, there were not many people who were actually interested in Japanese cuisine, including myself. Most people were working in European kitchens. But things are slowly changing now. After the wave of Korean food, I feel Japanese cuisine is starting to gain a lot more attention. There is also a lot more cultural and business exchange happening between India and Japan. The Japanese government has been investing in collaborations and partnerships, and more Japanese people are coming to India while more Indians are travelling to Japan as well. Over the last few years people here have started understanding Japanese food much better. Because of that I really hope that culinary schools and hotel management institutes in India start introducing Japanese cuisine more seriously into their curriculum. When I was studying we only had one day dedicated to Japanese food and it was mostly limited to sushi and rolls. There is so much more depth to it, and I think the next generation of chefs would really benefit from learning about it properly. It would be fascinating to see how the next generation interprets and carries forward Indian–Japanese cuisine. What excites me most is the idea that everyone brings their own perspective to food, and you never quite know what new and inspiring ideas might emerge from that process. If that happens, I imagine I would feel two things. First, a quiet sense of gratitude if my work helped spark curiosity or encouraged others to explore this space. And second, genuine excitement in seeing the cuisine through fresh eyes - discovering interpretations and possibilities that I may never have considered myself, and of course this is compliment to all the work we do here at INJA and the creative person inside me.
B.Neos starts with a mindset shift, inspired by sailing with hybrid propulsion at its core. But this new Benetti 40-metre hybrid yacht isn’t about performance on paper. It’s all about how it feels to be on board.
Malcolm McKeon, a veteran designer synonymous with sailing superyachts, shaped the flowing B.Neos form: clean proportions, slick profile, and a silhouette that favors balance over bulk. The look is restrained, elegant and timeless.
Inside, Francesca Muzio (FM Architettura) delivers interiors that feel lived-in rather than monumental. Lightness, warm materials, tactile finishes and welcoming spaces replace formality and excess. The focus shifts from display to comfort. The purpose is to enjoy the yacht through familyoriented spaces. A return to what truly matters. A simplicity that elevates the overall experience.
Enjoy lunch with family in the cockpit. No exhaust fumes. No vibration. No generator hum. Just fresh air, the sound of the sea and the voices of those you love to have around. Full silence day and night, with everything on board operating seamlessly thanks to the batteries when in Hotel Mode, giving up to 5 hours during the day and 8 hours at night on electrical power alone.
B.Neos can operate on battery power when leaving the harbor in the morning, when entering a protected marina, or during port maneuvers and mooring. Hybrid efficiency follows naturally. Compared to yachts of the same size, B.Neos cuts energy consumption by up to 30% thanks to its purpose-built technical ecosystem.

“ For today’s owners, Benetti rethought the entire ownership experience to remove complexity and stress. ”

Onboard technology works quietly in the background, delivering advanced home automation, ultra-fast 5G and Starlink connectivity, and smart systems that simplify life on board. Behind the scenes, augmented reality and AI allow crew and shipyard to monitor systems remotely, anticipate issues and intervene in real time. For the owner, it means reliability without the stress.
Benetti has a track record of anticipating trends. The world’s biggest yacht manufacturer designed the first beach-focused series, called Oasis Deck®, one of the best-selling yacht models of the House. B.Neos sails to the same ethos, introducing multiple innovations.
The advanced engine room optimizes technical volumes, reducing them by 30% which frees up valuable living space. The result is an unexpected layout, creating a breath-taking Sea Atrium – with 2.4 meters ceiling height – framed by floor-toceiling glass and additional lateral hull windows. The teak flooring extends inward, visually linking the main saloon with the pool and the aft deck with seamless transition. The Sea Atrium upgrades the beach club into a new social hub: a destination for reading, relaxing and entertaining while remaining completely connected to the water.
At the heart of the yacht is the Family Kitchen: an open, welcoming space for sharing informal meals without necessarily needing the crew to be around. Life feels easy for a family lunch, morning breakfast or even show-cooking with friends. Of course, flexibility is key. For more formal occasions, the dining area can be discreetly separated.
By moving the wheelhouse forward on the Main Deck, Benetti frees the entire Upper Deck for the owner looking toward the horizon. The result is a private apartment with 270-degree panoramic views, a feature usually reserved for yachts well over 60 meters, and a rare level of privacy for a yacht of this size. Directly connected to the owner’s cabin there is a large private terrace. This outside space includes both dining and occasional tables, perfect for private breakfast or for what may be one of the most beautiful workspaces in the world. For today’s owners, Benetti rethought the entire ownership experience to remove complexity and stress. A set of ancillary services solve the complexities of yacht ownership for a busy generation.
Benetti’s Peace of Mind program is a one-stopplatform that protects a yacht’s long-term value through preventive maintenance, extended warranty and a dedicated crew academy. The “brain” of B.Neos is an AI-driven database that shares live operational data with Benetti, to ensure smooth running no matter where on the globe the yacht is cruising. Through Yachtique, the Group’s interior design and lifestyle division, Benetti provides a turnkey solution from interior setup to accessories, and from onboard equipment to lifestyle details. The yacht is delivered fully prepared - from linens and tableware to lifestyle accessories and water toys. All of this comes together in Yacht as a Service (YaaS): a fiveyear, fully managed ownership model that integrates yacht and services into one seamless solution.

thrive in harsh environments. This ambitious creation represents Genesis’ vision to blend daring innovation with luxury, marking the next chapter for Genesis as it connects with the active lifestyle of off-road enthusiasts..
The uncompromising exterior design of the X Skorpio Concept is built to overcome all potential obstacles in its path. The iconic arching tail of a scorpion inspired the vehicle’s tension-filled curves, which flow seamlessly across its sculpted body. The segmented armor-like panels not only evoke the protective nature of a scorpion’s exoskeleton but also enhance practicality, allowing for quick and efficient repairs in extreme environments.
Driver comfort and safety was central in its design. Off-roading is an intense sport requiring constant alertness and physical endurance.
To meet this demand, Genesis incorporated ergonomic seating, intuitive controls and climate control systems to enhance performance and reduce driver fatigue.
The color palette and materials of the X Skorpio Concept were carefully chosen to capture the bold and daring essence of a black scorpion. The exterior features a deep black base infused with a vibrant blue tint, creating a striking visual effect that comes alive under sunlight, mimicking a scorpion’s natural hues while ensuring an unforgettable presence in any setting.
The interior materials reflect a scorpion’s serious and aggressive nature. Luxurious suede with intricate gradient patterns — crafted using state-of-the-art laser cutting techniques — is paired with leather that features unique stitching inspired by the segmented legs of a scorpion.
Equipped with a high-performance V8 engine delivering 1,115 PS (1,100 horsepower) and 117.6 kilogram-force meters (850 pound-feet of torque), the X Skorpio Concept sets new benchmarks for off-road driving.

We recently experienced the Zeekr 001 on the streets of Dubai, discovering how this highperformance electric shooting brake responds to one of the world’s most dynamic urban landscapes.
There is a certain theatre to driving through Dubai. From the measured flow of Sheikh Zayed Road to the sculpted curves leading into Downtown, the city invites performance, and the Zeekr 001 answers with quiet authority. This high performance premium electric shooting brake is not simply transport, it is intent made visible.
Press the accelerator and the flagship dual motor AWD system releases 544 horsepower, moving from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 3.8 seconds. Yet the sensation is not aggression, but control. The car feels anchored, precise, almost architectural in the way it gathers speed. Power builds in a smooth, uninterrupted surge, accompanied only by the restrained whisper unique to refined electric engineering. In a city that appreciates spectacle, the Zeekr 001 delivers performance with composure rather than noise.
The platform beneath it feels equally considered. With multiple driving modes including Sport, Eco, Comfort, Sand and Off Road, the car adapts effortlessly to its environment. In Sport, it
sharpens into something urgent and responsive, ideal for open stretches of highway. In Comfort, it becomes serene and measured, perfectly suited to evening traffic or a leisurely cruise along the waterfront. The balance between athleticism and refinement is deliberate, allowing the driver to choose the tone of each journey.
The design carries equal confidence. The shooting brake silhouette is distinctive, athletic without excess, blending practicality with sculptural presence. Frameless doors open with silent electric suction, closing with a hushed finality that feels closer to a private jet than a conventional vehicle. At night, the intelligent matrix lighting, composed of more than 600 LED elements, adapts to its surroundings, creating a striking yet sophisticated light signature. Against Dubai’s illuminated skyline, it feels entirely at ease.
Inside, the cabin becomes a sanctuary from the heat and spectacle beyond the glass. The arc shaped panoramic roof offers over 82% thermal insulation and 99.9 percent UV protection, filtering the desert sun with the assurance of SPF 50 while allowing natural light to flood the interior. The sense of space is amplified by clean lines and carefully selected materials. Microfiber
velvet headlining adds softness overhead, while metal embossed gear detailing introduces a tactile precision that feels intentional and crafted.
Seating is equally indulgent. Fully functional ventilated and massage seats transform long drives into restorative experiences, and the three zone intelligent climate control system continuously monitors air quality to ensure optimal comfort for all passengers. Whether navigating midday heat or cooler desert evenings, the cabin remains a controlled, elegant environment. The Yamaha sound system with 11 speakers and a dedicated subwoofer completes the atmosphere, delivering layered, immersive audio that elevates even the simplest playlist.
Technology here is not ornamental. Four interconnected screens, including a 15.4-inch floating central display, a 14.7-inch head up display, a digital instrument cluster and a rear touchscreen for passengers, present information with clarity and fluidity.
On Dubai’s roads, where expectation is elevated and style is instinctive, the Zeekr 001 does not try to compete with the city. It complements it with confidence, clarity, and quiet strength.

We experienced the BMW X7 on the streets of Dubai, where scale meets spectacle, and discovered a flagship SUV that feels entirely at home in a city built on ambition.
There are cars that look impressive in a showroom, and then there are cars that truly make sense once they meet a skyline. The BMW X7 belongs firmly to the latter. From the moment we guided it onto Sheikh Zayed Road, framed by glass towers and the steady rhythm of city traffic, it felt less like a large SUV and more like a private lounge in motion.
The proportions alone set the tone. Stretching over five metres in length, with a commanding stance and a wide, confident posture, the X7 carries itself with quiet authority. Yet on the streets of Dubai, where supercars idle at traffic lights and luxury SUVs are part of the daily landscape, it does not shout. It simply arrives.
Inside, the experience shifts from presence to serenity. The elevated driving position offers a sweeping view of Downtown’s sculpted architecture and the distant silhouette of the Burj Khalifa, while the cabin cocoons you from the city’s intensity. It is remarkably refined for something so substantial. Road noise fades into a gentle hush, and even as the city pulses around you, the X7 maintains a
sense of calm that feels almost tailored.
We experienced the BMW X7 in its xDrive40i guise, which delivers a smooth, confident surge of power that feels effortless rather than aggressive. With 380 horsepower and the ability to move from standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, it has more than enough energy for swift merges and confident overtakes. Yet what defines it is not speed, but composure. Acceleration feels seamless, almost silken, perfectly suited to gliding between DIFC meetings and sunset dinners along Jumeirah Beach Road.
Dubai is a city of contrasts, and the X7 mirrors that duality. In the tight entrances of valet drop offs and hotel forecourts, it remains poised and controlled. On open stretches of highway leading towards the desert outskirts, it stretches out with confidence, riding high with generous ground clearance that hints at its capability beyond the asphalt. Even if most owners will never test its full off-road potential, there is comfort in knowing that beneath the polished exterior lies genuine substance.
The adaptive air suspension plays a quiet but significant role in the experience. Over expansion joints and city imperfections, the X7 glides rather than jolts. Passengers in the second and third rows are treated not as afterthoughts, but as honored guests.
With seating for up to seven, it is as much about shared journeys as it is about personal indulgence.
In Dubai, where lifestyle often extends beyond the individual to family, friends and business circles, that flexibility matters. The generous luggage space easily accommodates everything from designer shopping bags at The Dubai Mall to weekend luggage for a coastal escape. It is a vehicle designed to adapt to the pace of a full calendar.
Visually, the X7 holds its own against a skyline defined by ambition. Its bold front end, sculpted lines and refined detailing reflect a modern interpretation of luxury. It feels distinctly European, yet entirely at ease in the Middle East. Parked outside a five-star hotel in Business Bay, it draws attention not through flamboyance, but through proportion and presence.
Driving it through Dubai at night is perhaps when the experience crystallizes. City lights shimmer against the bodywork, traffic flows in polished streams, and the cabin becomes a personal retreat above the movement below. The X7 is not about proving a point. It is about arriving composed, carrying others comfortably, and embracing the scale of a city that never thinks small.

Roger Vivier unveils Roger Vivier: Heritage and Imagination, a new monograph published by Rizzoli, conceived as a cultural exploration of one of the most inventive and influential figures in twentieth-century design. More than a retrospective, the book offers a living portrait of Roger Vivier’s legacy, where heritage is a dynamic source of imagination, dialogue, and creative transmission.

The publication follows the inauguration of Maison Vivier in Paris and the opening of its archives, marking a pivotal moment in which Roger Vivier chooses to also share its history beyond the walls of the Maison itself. Roger Vivier: Heritage and Imagination is an act of cultural sharing, a gesture of openness transforming memory into a collective resource, accessible to curators, writers, students, designers and generations of readers interested in fashion as a cultural language.

Over the past decades, Roger Vivier’s work has been the subject of important publications that have documented his work and influence. From early monographs such as Roger Vivier by Pierre Provoyeur (1988), to Mémoire de la Mode (1999), Process to Perfection curated by Elizabeth Semmelhack (2012), and landmark volumes published by Rizzoli in connection with major exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo and beyond. Roger Vivier: Heritage and Imagination builds upon this editorial lineage while moving decisively forward. Rather than focusing solely on biography or object analysis, the book proposes a broader cultural reading of Vivier’s universe, shaped by contemporary voices and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Curated by Elizabeth Semmelhack, Director and Senior Curator of the Bata Shoe Museum, the book is structured around five thematic “Salons”: Le Salon de l’Héritage, Le Salon des Formes, Le Salon de l’Ornement, Le Salon de la Célébrité, and Le Salon de l’Imaginaire. Inspired by the intellectual salons of the eighteenth century, these chapters operate as spaces of conversations rather than chronology, where ideas, images, and reflections intersect freely across time, disciplines, and sensibilities.
Drawing on recently disclosed archival material, from original sketches, prototypes, photographs, and documents the book reveals Monsieur Vivier
as both craftsman and thinker: a designer whose radical approach to form, ornament, and proportion forever transformed the language of footwear. These historical materials are placed in dialogue with original contributions by an exceptional constellation of voices from cinema, art, fashion, literature, and design. A mirror demonstrating how Vivier’s ideas continue to inform contemporary luxury and creative authorship.
Among the contributors are Global Brand Ambassador Ines de la Fressange, renowned actresses Catherine Deneuve, Isabella Rossellini, Michelle Yeoh, Eva Green, Laura Dern, Cher, Christina Ricci, alongside writers and cultural commentators such as Suzy Menkes, Carol Woolton, Anne-Sophie von Claer, Violette d’Urso, as well as artists and image-makers including Nicolas Party and Ellen Mirojnick. Each brings an independent perspective, illuminating how Roger Vivier’s work continues to shape ideas of femininity, elegance, performance, and self-expression.
Under the creative direction of Gherardo Felloni, this heritage is shown not as a closed chapter, but as a living grammar, constantly reinterpreted with freedom, emotion, and contemporary relevance. The book reflects the Maison’s ongoing dialogue between past and present, intellect and imagination, discipline and joie de vivre.
Roger Vivier: Heritage and Imagination positions itself as both an intellectual and sensorial object: a work of long-form editorial research that affirms the Maison’s commitment to culture as a form of generosity. By transforming private memory into shared knowledge, Roger Vivier reasserts its belief that heritage gains meaning only when it is transmitted, questioned, and imagined again.

We have entered a new era of luxury in the GCC that has also been sparked by global industry executives. Global intelligence from firms like McKinsey has noted a definitive shift in the 2026 industry vocabulary: moving from uncertainty to categorize the current market as definitively challenging. This climate actually offers an inspiring opportunity to catalyze, further elevating and evolving the luxury landscape.
As this new column releases, and the realities of global shifts follow, it provides a narrative and a space to consider the $11 billion GCC luxury market. It marks an inspiring shift that requires a fundamental pivot in how we consume, moving toward an era defined by value preservation and insight. Today’s smart reader and elite investor views luxury beyond the lens of impulse, but through an investment lens focused on the value it provides, the legacy it continues to endure throughout the years, its heritage and craftsmanship, or even in receiving broader experiences it delivers.
Observations from my recent time on the streets of Soho, NYC, reveal a stark contrast in the modern luxury landscape, which is the friction between ‘brand behavior’ and ‘brand soul’. It is the difference between fleeting trends and maintaining a true luxury. In an urge to continue to capture market share in a more globalized market, it’s enduring brands that have steered away from hollow trends with high
price tags toward more in-depth substance; and thriving brands that have elevated beyond, understanding that to build, rebuild, or retain consumer trust, they must focus on real value, whether that means prioritizing uncompromising craftsmanship and authentic legacy storytelling over pricing, or, more importantly, offering an elevated experience that adds tangible value to today’s life.
The pieces that will endure beyond this season are those anchored in expertise and quality, as data shows that for the discerning customer, superior craftsmanship and a definitive shift toward substance over excess are the primary markers of true luxury.
This brings us to our new closing pearl, a new standard of insight designed to empower, partnering to unfold the true experiences of the modern luxury landscape, serving both the industry investor and individuals in the community alike. We close today’s pearl with this: a brand soul’s enduring value is anchored in its authenticity, its preservation of craft, and the ultimate, elevating experience it delivers.
We are entering a new era of value creation, and we want you to lead the way. What experiences should Durrah build for you next? Connect with us to tell us what today’s discerning customer truly needs.
