Durham High School Uniform
Uniform guide for Pre-Prep, Prep, Senior and Sixth Form

Introduction

We are very pleased to share with you the updated uniform and sports kit guidance for the 2025 to 2027 period, a time that marks a significant and exciting new chapter in the life of Durham High School, as we proudly extend our excellent education to both girls and boys.
At Durham High School, we believe that uniform plays a vital role in creating a strong sense of community, pride and purpose. A smart, practical uniform helps pupils feel prepared for the day ahead and reflects the high standards we uphold both within the classroom and beyond. It also reduces unnecessary distractions, allowing pupils to focus on what matters most: learning, growing and flourishing.
We are committed to ensuring that all pupils feel comfortable and confident in their uniform. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field or at a school event, our expectation is that pupils present themselves smartly and wear only the official, school-branded items outlined in this guide.
As always, please ensure that all clothing, sports kit and equipment are clearly named to avoid loss or mixups, and that worn or outgrown items are replaced in a timely fashion. This guidance is designed to support families as pupils grow, mature and take pride in their school identity, wherever their talents may take them.

Purchasing Uniform
It is entirely natural that school uniform will show signs of wear over time, given how frequently it is worn and the energetic nature of day-to-day school life. We simply ask that uniform remains smart, well-fitting and in good condition so that every pupil can continue to take pride in their appearance and feel ready to learn.
Throughout this guide we have indicated where items are compulsory, optional, can be purchased from any retailer and a suggested quantity of items to purchase, to allow for washing cycles and ensure all pupils remain clean and presentable.
Please note that main uniform requirements for our Year 6 pupils are listed in the Senior Department section on page 18. Although Year 6 remain part of the Prep Department they wear Senior uniform to help with the transitional process to the Senior Department. Sports kit for Year 6 remains the same as the rest of the Prep Department.
Our uniform is supplied by Emblematic and can be purchased from: www.emblematic.co.uk or by visiting the on-site Emblematic uniform shop.
Orders are assembled in the on-site Emblematic shop, and you will be emailed when they are ready. Orders for Pre-Prep and Prep pupils will be taken to their classrooms. Senior Department pupils must come to the shop to collect.
Please note the shop is closed during the holidays so orders are assembled after the start of term. During the summer holiday, the shop opens occasionally for appointments which must be booked via the Emblematic website. During the summer holiday, online orders can only be placed for home delivery. They will be assembled when the shop is open and are then sent to the Newcastle head office for dispatch.
Uniform items can be purchased by cash, cheque or card but cannot be put on a school invoice.
