INVERTER WELDING MACHINES Since the launch of the Xcel-Arc brand of welding machines in Issue 88 of the Caliper Magazine in February 2006, the Xcel-Arc brand has gone from strength to strength and is now recognized within the N.Z welding industry as an innovative market leader. The Xcel-Arc brand is 100% Kiwi owned by Esseti New Zealand Limited and the company continues to work with select factories around the world by designing welding machines and equipment to suit New Zealand conditions and to meet the demands of Kiwi professional Welders.

The smart guys at Esseti realised a while ago that not everybody who buys a welding machine needs a machine at the top end with all the bells, whistles and high Duty-Cycles normally associated with their Xcel-Arc and Razorweld range. In addition, Esseti realised that there’s significant demand from professional users wanting affordable welding machines to be used on-site, in extreme work conditions or as a back-up machine within the workshop. The need from N.Z industry for a range of machines fitted with domestic 10-amp supply plug has also become apparent over recent years.

Keen to put the bite on the competition in this emerging market segment, the solution was to create a whole new family of welding machines. The guys at Esseti put their designing hats on and the VIPER series of inverter welding machines was born.

A

young man who was an avid golfer found himself with a few hours to spare one afternoon. He figured if he hurried and played very fast, he could get in nine holes before he had to head home. Just as he was about to tee off an old gentleman shuffled onto the tee and asked if he could accompany the young man as he was golfing alone. Not being able to say no, he allowed the old gent to join him.

To his surprise the old man played fairly quickly. He didn’t hit the ball far, but plodded along and didn’t waste much time. Finally, they reached the 9th fairway and the young man found himself with a tough shot. A large pine tree right in front of his ball - and directly between his ball and the green.

After debating how to hit the shot the old man finally said, “You know, when I was your age I’d hit the ball right over that tree.”

With that challenge, the youngster swung hard, hit the ball up, right smack into the top of the tree trunk and it thudded back not a foot from where it had originally lay.

The old man offered one more comment, “Of course, when I was your age that pine tree was only three feet tall.”
