Niño Grande Niño Grande (Matias Paradela) Born in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, (July 23th.

1989), Matias studied Fine Arts and taught Morphology applied to industrial design.

In 2014 he met Keiko Gonzalez at his studio in La Paz. Keiko introduced him to huge oil painting and massive production. Matías started to focus only on painting until he became a full-time painter in 2017.

Niño Grande works now with some of the most prestigious galleries in Bolivia and Argentina, Including KIOSKO Gallery in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Puro, Salar Galeria in La Paz Bolivia and MM Gallery in Buenos Aires Argentina. Now he continues working in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Frontera Tropical Frontera Tropical is the continuation of a more

extensive series of paintings….the gas tanks.

Frontiers are places where different cultures collide into each other; they are ‘blurred places” where it is easy to lose track of what side you are standing on. But it is also where the smuggling occurs in the most creative ways to defy authority.

4) We noticed a lot of classical/mythical imagery in your paintings? Is this something that has always interest you.

I studied fine arts.

Since I don't have any religious education, studying Greek mythology in school was the closest to hearing about God. When I was a child, Gods seemed to be these avatars that you could represent as you wish, basically. So I even draw comics as a kid "Thanathos vs. Eros," "Vulcano vs. Thanatos," and so on.

It really stuck with me this idea of gods as humans with flaws. This balance of heroic and anti-heroic is always on my mind.

2) Who and what are most inspirational for you and your work?

I have been painting non-stop since 2015 when I first came to Bolivia and met Keiko Gonzales, who introduced me to this idea of massive production of paintings to see the paintings as a whole series and mostly work hard.

I think every painter deep inside is self-taught, meaning that you learn from your own process and struggle over your own practice, but having a mentor or a guide along the way is fundamental.

I believe in large series of paintings. The subject tends to remain on the surface, but the repetition and commitment make it more potent. I do not plan ahead since painting is more a day-by-day practice, so I don't want to rush into what is next.

1) How did you start painting? Are you self-taught?

I'm in a really good place right now; the big challenge is to deliver good paintings.

6) How do you see your works evolve in the next 5-10 yrs?

Materials are becoming more and more relevant in my work and how they start to interact in terms of contrast. I will love to add some sculptures on the way.
