VIRGINIA MARKETPLACE THE EASTERN SHORE The Eastern Shore of Virginia has an abundance of natural beauty that is still preserved today. Well-preserved barrier islands dot the east side of the peninsula, providing refuge to an array of wildlife and plenty of ways to enjoy the natural landscape. Of note are the Assateague Island National Seashore, a thirty-seven-mile barrier island with wild ponies and hundreds of bird species, and Chincoteague for its famed wild ponies and wildlife refuge.

A unique system of deep water and tidal waterways, called “creeks”, cut into the peninsula, and greatly increases the possibility of owning a waterfront property with a boat dock on the Eastern Shore. Docked boats on the creeks are protected from the open water. “The water is the king on the Eastern Shore,” says Bulette. “Life centers around the water and the tides here.” The predominantly rural area is sprinkled with quaint towns, historic homes, and picturesque streets. Boating, fishing, clamming, and hunting are just a few of the many activities that draw people to the Eastern Shore. The Bay Creek Resort & Club and the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club boast renowned golf courses. “The Eastern Shore is a great place for a second home,” Bulette says. “Many corporate executives now make it their home.” With proximity to cities like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York, it is easy to do so.




BEAUTIFUL GLOUCESTER COUNTY There are few places in Virginia more historic -- or watery -than Gloucester County, with the Rappahannock, Piankatank, and the James rivers, the Mobjack Bay, and the Chesapeake Bay leading to the ocean. aux Hall, the historic home built by the Virginia Statesman John Revell, is one of the Eastern Shore's enduring and graceful treasures. John Revell served in the House of Burgesses and built the main house, known as Vaux Hall Manor, around 1710.
