This year saw some significant fluctuations in the sales at the major auction houses. Totals for art were off from 2015, but some new and unusual activity resulted in many individual records and increases over last year. The jewelry market was also the focus of increased activity with overall sales increasing. The highlight of the sales was “Sweet Josephine” a vivid fancy pink diamond weighing in at 16.08 carats and selling for $28.5 million. Fine art and jewelry, therefore, were marching hand-in-hand with a classic luxury and exotic automobile. They are both very busy and volatile. Food for thought as you review your next buy/sell!

ollowing the announcement of the new 718 Boxsters, Porsche has pulled back the sheets on the new 2017 718 Cayman models. What's more, this is the first time the Cayman is priced below the Boxster. The new 718 Cayman powerhouse is a 2.0-liter engine that delivers 280 lb-ft and 300 hp, with the 2.5-liter of the Cayman S producing 309 lb-ft and 350 hp. Both models see a 25+ hp increase over their predecessor while the Cayman has a 67 lb-ft increase in torque and the Cayman S has a 37lb-ft increase. As for performance, the Cayman with the Sport Chrono Package can run 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and the Cayman S can accomplish the run in 4.0 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. Coming in with the enhanced engines are firmer springs and sway bars, retuned shock absorbers, steering rack that is 10 percent quicker, upgraded brake systems, rear wheels that are one-half inch wider and new tires.
