his month’s cover star, the McLaren W1, is one of those automotive marvels that truly takes one’s breath away. Having just pipped Ferrari’s F80 to public launch, it must also have felt satisfying for the British marque to defeat the Prancing Horse to the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship at the tail-end of 2024.
As we head into this New Year, with a transition of power in government, the political temperature is white hot. I’ll share something Jay Leno quipped recently, which amused me, about Elon Musk joining Donald Trump’s administration, noting that he’d sold so many Teslas to liberal Californians, he thinks Elon is trying to persuade conservatives that they’re cool too!
But seriously, electrification is a huge topic in the automotive industry, and Jaguar’s bold allelectric range, due to start sales in 2026, can be viewed as a $1.9 billion gamble as it reinvents its brand. This traditionally right-leaning brand has undergone a massive shift, with its controversial marketing campaign (which prompted Musk to jibe ‘Do you sell cars?’), logo changes and Miami Art Week concept car launch.
As I see it, Jaguar has concluded that not enough of its traditional base were buying its cars, to the point that it’s stopped selling new ones in the UK. Its reimagining campaign has annoyed loyalists, but so what if there isn’t a business case anymore? After the pearl-clutching outcry faded out, what Jaguar has done is actually very smart…
This daring design will appeal to a younger a uent demographic, including many professional sportsmen, which will only boost its profile further. And I can also see it attracting all genders; I don’t think it was by accident that it launched in both pink and blue! It’s whipped up huge media interest, has very clearly stated its aims, and revealed a concept car that boasts lines not dissimilar to a Rolls-Royce, for likely less than half of the price.
Speaking of which, be sure to check out Gabriel Vega Cortés’ road test of Rolls’ ultra-luxury Ghost Series II and Black Badge around the South of France. I speak to Hollywood star Patrick Dempsey about his racing return and love a air with Porsche, and we also look at Alfa Romeo’s gorgeous 33 Stradale.
Happy reading, and drive safely!

MCLAREN’S
The W1 draws on more than just McLaren’s storied past for its name and philosophy. It’s a technological leap that defines the marque’s future.
WORDS : Gabriel Vega Cortés
1.
PHOTOS COURTESY OF MCLAREN
THE W1 ISN’T A PLUG-IN HYBRID IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE. ITS ONBOARD BATTERY PACK IS TINY, WITH NO REAL-WORLD RANGE. ITS ELECTRIFICATION PURELY SERVES ITS PERFORMANCE.
LLook at any of the latest supercars, be it the McLaren Artura, the Ferrari 296 GTB, or the recently unveiled Lamborghini Temerario, and you’ll find traces of their hyper predecessors. Eleven years ago, the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Porsche 918 Spyder laid the foundation for the future of the modern supercar. Plug-in hybrids with monstrous power outputs and infinitely adjustable aero may be the norm today, but in 2013 they were a rarity. Now, over a decade on, the Woking, England-based carmaker wants to give us a glimpse of the upcoming ten.
The 2025 McLaren W1 is a direct nod to its predecessors, the P1 and F1. And more than just paying tribute to the carmaker’s greats, the W1’s moniker signifies the beginning of a new era for the brand. The tech unveiled in this $2.1 million hypercar, of which just 399 units will ever exist, will inspire the marque’s future models.
As such, practically every component on the 2025 McLaren W1 is new, starting with its 4.0-liter twinturbocharged V8. Although its displacement is identical to its predecessor’s, it’s an all-new engine designed to work alongside an electric motor. A lightened block, cylinder heads, aluminum pistons, and new twin-scroll turbochargers round out the list of significant changes. By itself, the W1’s V8 generates 916 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque while spinning up to a 9,200-rpm redline. For context, the P1’s total output, electric motor and all, maxed out at 903 hp.
The W1 pairs its new V8 with a 342-hp radial flux electric motor directly integrated into its eight-speed automatic transmission. Aside from bumping its total power output to 1,258 hp and 988 lb-ft, it replaces the need for a traditional starter motor and reverse gear. Like its predecessors, McLaren’s latest sends all its power to the rear wheels, with the carmaker citing
insights from its Formula 1 team to manage traction and power delivery. The result is a 2.7-second sprint to 60 mph and a 5.8-second dash to 124 mph. 186 mph is dealt with in 12.7 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 217 mph.
Unlike the P1, however, the McLaren W1 isn’t a traditional plug-in hybrid with a usable range. Its relatively tiny battery pack holds just 1.4 kilowatts, allowing it to cover at most 1.6 miles on electrons alone (the P1 managed 19 miles EPA). Instead, the cells used in this application serve purely performance purposes. The choice to incorporate a small pack, along with an electric motor that weighs just 44 lb, is how the W1 can claim the lightest possible dry weight of 3,084 lb.
The W1 encloses its new powertrain hardware in a novel carbon-fiber Aerocell monocoque. It’s unique to McLaren’s latest hypercar and incorporates what the carmaker calls its anhedral doors, aka its new gullwing doors. The carmaker cites aerodynamic constraints for their introduction due to a door hinged on the car’s roof allowing for optimized airflow from the front arches and into the side-mounted, high-temperature radiators. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re wonderfully theatrical and totally at home in.
Inside, the McLaren W1 debuts integrated seating, essentially chairs carved into the monocoque. By eliminating conventional buckets, the carmaker e ectively shrinks the W1’s wheelbase by 2.8 inches while raising its footwells. As such, its steering wheel, pedals, and primary controls adjust instead. The W1’s wheel is squared-o , featuring just two buttons: “Boost” and “McLaren Aero Deployment.” Its digital instrument cluster is mounted to the steering column and moves with the wheel, ensuring legibility. Its powertrain and chassis settings flank it, adjustable via two paddles. Meanwhile, the sun visor above it is now made of carbon fiber and just 0.1-inch thick.
Like the P1, the McLaren W1 will likely introduce us to the carmaker’s design language for future models. It’s distinct, angular, and shaped primarily by wind

tunnel testing. The W1’s goal to be both a road and track car greatly informs its styling. It sits in a low-drag configuration when cruising, aiming to be slippery.
However, engage race mode, and it squats by 1.5 inches up front and 0.7 in the rear. Simultaneously, it deploys active front and rear wings working alongside the downforce generated by its ground effect. Its active rear spoiler alone can extend by 11.8 inches. By incorporating these active elements, the W1 generates up to 2,205 lb of downforce, 772 lb coming from the front and 1,433 lb from the rear. However, its wing can enable a drag reduction system while doubling as an air brake depending on what’s being demanded.
On the suspension front, the McLaren W1 debuts Race Active Chassis Control III. It incorporates an inboard damper system to enable the aforementioned Race mode without spoiling its ride. It includes titanium torsion bars upfront with an active heave element crosslink. In the rear, it incorporates a Z-bar setup with active drop links. The W1 introduces this motorsportinspired suspension setup while retaining the hydraulic power steering system the brand is well-known for.
Its standard carbon ceramic brakes measure 15.4 inches up front with six-piston calipers. The W1 wears bespoke 265/35 and 335/30 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS rubber to use the additional stopping power best. However, P Zero R and P Zero Winter 2 are available as optional extras. Combining these new power, chassis, and aerodynamic technologies, the McLaren W1 laps the carmaker’s Nardò reference track three seconds quicker than the Senna.
Setting its performance aside momentarily, McLaren aims to make the W1 one of its most customizable cars ever. The marque designed it with customization in mind, o ering all 399 units virtually limitless options. One of the most interesting is a new material called InnoKnit, e ectively a knitted-to-fit fabric that covers the interior in large pieces of materials, reducing the need for seams.
Although production is due to start soon, McLaren states that all 399 units have sold with a starting price of $2.1 million.

ALPHA ALFA
WORDS : Tyler Rampersaud
With over 110 years in the automotive industry, Alfa Romeo has earned a reputation for making some of the most beautiful Italian cars in history, continuously igniting the passion of enthusiasts across decades. One of the greatest icons in Alfa Romeo’s history is the 33 Stradale, the roadgoing rendition of its Tipo 33 race car, a legend for its motorsport success and its beauty alike.
The 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was built as a highly-exclusive limited edition supercar. Only 18 examples were made, and one remains at Alfa’s Museum in Arese, Italy, as one of the greatest masterpieces in its rich and storied history. In August 2023, Alfa Romeo revived the legend of the 33 Stradale, unveiling a stunning modernized recreation of the original that remains faithful to its legend of being an exclusive, high-performance supercar.
Only 33 examples of the new 33 Stradale
will be made, and all of them have already been spoken for. A true “fuoriserie” (custom-built) creation, the handcrafting of the supercar will take place at the storied coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. The introduction of the new 33 Stradale marks Alfa Romeo’s first time creating such a car in over 50 years. Developed at its new “Bottega”, which is inspired by Renaissance workshops and 1960s coachbuilders, the 33 Stradale goes beyond being a recreation of a historical icon, fully embracing traditional Italian automotive excellence, with F1 driver Valtteri Bottas lending a hand towards the tuning and development of its performance.
The new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale’s power comes from a longitudinally midmounted twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, an evolution of the engine seen in Alfa’s current pinnacle performance models, or an optional fully-electric
Alfa Romeo brings back the historic 33 Stradale as an ultra-exclusive supercar.
ONLY 33 EXAMPLES OF THE NEW 33 STRADALE WILL BE MADE, AND ALL OF THEM HAVE ALREADY BEEN SPOKEN FOR.
configuration. The former sends 620 horsepower through an 8-speed dualclutch automatic transmission to the rear wheels, while the latter promises more than 750 horsepower.
Its design matches the striking silhouette of the racing-derived original, while adopting a futuristic look in line with Alfa Romeo’s latest design language. Dramatic butterfly doors and a large wraparound sunroof give the driver aircraft-like visibility, while phone dial-style wheels add an unmistakably classic Alfa look. Two trims, Tributo and Alfa Corse, will be available, and the Alfa Romeo “Bottega” will work with clients to create each car as a one-off, bespoke collector’s masterpiece.
Deliveries of the new 33 Stradale are beginning to take place, after Alfa Romeo brought the new exclusive supercar to
Nardò for testing in November 2024. There, the manufacturer was able to confirm a top speed of 207 mph for its new car, as well as a 0-60 time of under three seconds. Other testing sessions showed that, thanks to carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo, and a built-in Alfa Romeo brake-by-wire system, the supercar comes to a halt from 62 mph in under 108 feet.
With a rich history consisting of some of the world’s most coveted and celebrated sports cars and racing machines, a new performance vehicle on the level of the 33 Stradale has been long overdue from Alfa Romeo. Reviving the venerated nameplate with an innovative supercar boasting the same exclusivity, artisan craftsmanship, and dramatic looks of the original, the 33 examples of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale are set to hit the road and turn heads very soon.
The interior of the new 33 Stradale is designed to be minimalist, aimed at maximizing the driving engagement.

JAGUAR’S ELECTRIFYING REINVENTION
Legendary British marque Jaguar is boldly facing the future with not only a new model range, but a completely revamped brand that challenges convention.
WORDS : Charles Bradley
When it comes to rebranding exercises, we haven’t seen anything as seismic or high profile as Jaguar’s reinvention for a long time. The fact it chose to launch its Type 00 (say “zero-zero”) at Miami’s Art Week, rather than a motor show, displays a massive deviation for a marque that’s built on the ‘Best of British’ car manufacturing to take on its German rivals BMW and MercedesBenz. Now it’s setting its sights even higher, with a price tag that will likely hit over $200,000, while targeting a younger, but a uent, buyer.
Jaguar has reinterpreted itself for an allelectric future by seizing on a quote spoken by founder Sir William Lyons (“A Jaguar should be a copy of nothing”) and based its entire ethos around the paraphrased ‘copy nothing’ mantra, leading it to think with the courage to defy convention. It certainly delivered with this concept car, with its exuberant styling cues and gigantic proportions, mounted on blingy 23-inch wheels.
The wraps came o the concept in two colors, Miami Pink and London Blue, and its dramatic design features a wrap-around windshield, no rear window in its fastback silhouette (with multiple cameras and a video screen instead), and a huge hood that certainly doesn’t conform to the current design trend of electric vehicles. Butterfly doors reveal an interior that’s just as radical, with screens emerging from the dashboard, and a near 10-feet long brass spine separating the seats that it labels ‘the ingot’.
Design language includes hard edges and intersections, rather than slinky curves, plus repeated strikethroughs, notably across the front grille and rear, and incorporates its controversial new ‘jaGuar’ nameplate (rather than the Jaguar animal face) and ‘leaper’ logo. Headlights are more subtle, however, with simple LED lines giving it a somewhat robotic visage.

DESIGN LANGUAGE INCLUDES HARD EDGES AND INTERSECTIONS,
RATHER THAN SLINKY CURVES, PLUS ITS NEW ‘LEAPER’ LOGO.
“Jaguar has no desire to be loved by everybody,” said its Chief Creative Officer, Professor Gerry McGovern, who pointed to the E-Type and XJS as previous examples of its radically di erent designs. “Some may love it now, some may love it later, and some may never love it. And that’s OK, because that’s what fearless creativity does. This is the original essence of Jaguar.”
This two-door concept will lead to a series of models, the first being a four-door Grand Tourer that’s expected to be revealed at the end of this year, with sales due to begin in 2026. “This is a taste of things to come,” added McGovern. “I don’t believe in concepts unless they become a reality.”
Jaguar’s CEO Adrian Mardell told The Sunday Times that the company will spend around $1.9 billion developing its new EV lineup over the next five years. The range of its future electric cars will be 430 miles (with 200 available after a 15-minute fast charge) while also being the most powerful Jaguars ever, capable of producing 1000 hp.
It’s a bold leap on all fronts for Jaguar, and one that’s certainly got everyone talking about it.

THE FUTURE IS BESPOKE
Taking a Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II and its Black Badge twin for a spin along the twisty lanes in the South of France underlines the tailored nature of its ultra-luxury offerings.
WORDS : Gabriel Vega Cortés
Here’s a helpful TL;DR. The Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II is not just a luxury car; view it solely through that lens, and you’ll miss its true intentions. Developed alongside the expansion of the marque’s customization arm, the aptly named “Bespoke,” the Ghost Series II has evolved from an ultra-lux sedan into a $500,000 platform for personalization and self-expression.
Ask Phil Fabre de la Grange, Head of Bespoke, and he’ll tell you that every vehicle that rolls out of Goodwood incorporates work by his team. On average, 10 percent of the total purchase price goes to these unique touches. For a car that often stickers well beyond $500,000, that’s no small feat.
The roads surrounding Aix-en-Provence in the South of France aren’t particularly Rolls-Royce-friendly. Winding, narrow countryside lanes snake through small towns with ancient brick buildings just millimeters o your mirrors. Occasionally, you’ll roll past a historic winery previously occupied by the Romans, only to duck out of a local’s way as they barrel towards you, their arm hanging out the window with a lit cigarette in hand. Still, the scenery is stunning, with vast rock formations puncturing through a dense sea of luscious trees. The Mediterranean sits a stone’s throw to the south, with Monaco closely to the east.
Rolls-Royce wants its customers to utilize the bespoke capabilities to commission truly unique cars.
Short of a Phantom, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II is as refined and isolated as current technologies allow, and as the Spectre demonstrates, the next step up requires batteries. As such, Goodwood’s decision to leave its oily bits alone makes sense. Its 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 develops the same 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet it has since the 2020 introduction of the Ghost’s second generation.
Its Black Badge twin pushes those figures up to 591 hp and 664 lb-ft, although given that they’re propelling a 5,628-pound body, the resulting 4.6-second sprint to 60 mph is identical to the “standard” model’s. Still, the BB’s added sport mode, labeled on the column-mounted shifter simply as “Low,” sharpens its eightspeed auto shifts and moderately quickens its throttle response. It feels slightly more responsive than you’d traditionally expect from a Rolls, generating a stronger sensation of speed, even if the stats demonstrate that you’re no quicker o the line.
Like the Cullinan Series II, the new Ghost benefits from an expanded list of available finishes and textures. consisting of over 100,000 tiny perforations for leather-wrapped cabins.
Those extras, however, only scratch the surface of what Bespoke can now do. I stopped at Château La Coste for a car swap and a chat with de la Grange, in which he explained just how customizable the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II aims to be. Barring the car’s safety elements, which can’t be modified for regulatory reasons, there’s practically no commission Bespoke won’t seriously consider. RR wants its customers to utilize these capabilities to commission truly unique cars.
Back on the road in the Black Badge, it’s clear that with the introduction of the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, the marque went to great lengths to di erentiate its sportier o ering. In the pre-facelift models, the BB had to distinguish itself with its darkened trim and exposed-carbon wheelset.
While this updated version improves those elements with new wheel designs, it incorporates black door handles for the first time.
Pricing for the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II starts at $355,000, with the Black Badge jumping to $420,000.
The Ghost Series II evolves beyond a luxurious sedan into a platform for personalization and self-expression because it has to. Whether its customers are traversing narrow roads in the south of France or cruising anywhere else in the world, Rolls-Royce sees the future of the ultra-lux space characterized by experiences that are truly bespoke.

STAR TURN’S RACING COMEBACK
Hollywood actor and TV star Patrick Dempsey is back racing Porsches again, but thank the Ferrari movie for relighting his motorsport fire.
While many know him best for playing ‘McDreamy’ in TV’s smash hit Grey’s Anatomy, it was Patrick Dempsey’s brilliant motion picture portrayal of Italian racing ace Piero Taru in Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic that got his competitive juices flowing again.
Dempsey’s real-life racing past included him scaling “his Everest” by standing on the podium of the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, finishing second for Porsche in the GTE-Am class. But after the 2015 season, in which he both drove and ran a team in the World Endurance Championship, his family life demanded that he returned to playing the role of ‘Dad’.
Now, with his kids grown up, and the age of 60 approaching, he climbed back behind the wheel of a racecar in 2024, contesting Porsche’s customer racing series in a 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, and starred in a fly-on-the-wall documentary series on Hagerty’s YouTube channel.
“Because I did all the driving in Ferrari, I really forgot how much I missed it and how much I really needed it,” says Dempsey, who speaks to duPont REGISTRY straight after a practice session at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. “Just psychologically, there’s something about getting behind the wheel and driving it on the limit. It’s just really cleansing for the soul and for the mind, and that really kind of got me going well, you know, wouldn’t it be nice to get back into a racecar?”
“JUST PSYCHOLOGICALLY, THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL AND DRIVING IT ON THE LIMIT.”
WORDS : Charles Bradley
•••
Patrick Dempsey made his racing comeback in Porsche’s customer racing series, driving a 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport
“I’M FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY, IT’S JUST THE JOY OF DRIVING AND COMPETING, IT’S JUST INCREDIBLE.”
“After 2015, I wanted to be home for my kids at the sacrifice of racing, which was a full-time commitment. It was great to be at the pinnacle of endurance racing, and winning the race in Fuji [the legendary racetrack in Japan] was like winning a championship for me, it was an incredible experience. It’s hard to top that.”
“But you have to be disciplined, you have to sacrifice and give up some stu , and it took a big toll on my family. Now, my kids are about to graduate high school. My daughter’s through college and I’ve got a little bit more free time to be able to get back into it. But the catalyst was certainly getting behind the wheel and driving those cars in the Ferrari movie.”
Another step along the road was Dempsey taking on the challenge of Mexico’s famed Carrera Panamericana in 2023: “I had such a great time doing the road race in Mexico, it reminded me of the Baja, except you stay on the main roads, and I just really needed to try it. And that was it, I hadn’t lost the passion. It’s a part of who I am, and I need to do it.”
Dempsey is an unabashed car fanatic, and his everexpanding collection is only constrained by the space at his homes in Malibu and his native Maine.
And his love of Porsches runs deep, as we inquire what he currently owns: “I’m waiting on the Dakar right now. I have the R that I got in 2015. My 356 from 1963, a Coupe from 1964, a ’72 T that’s in the collection, and I’ve got my little tractor too, the Junior.”
“I’m currently driving the Turbo, which I really love as a
daily driver. It’s fantastic. I just got my daughter the Macan, so she’s really enjoying that car. And my wife has the Targa, so we’re a full-on Porsche family, and my boys love them too.”
The 356 has a backstory of its own, as it was his dream car purchase after appearing in “Can’t Buy Me Love” in 1987. “I spent my whole paycheck on that car; I think I got the car for $8,000 or $9,000,” he recalls. “Probably the best investment I’ve ever had! You know, to this day it just makes me smile, and it’s so easy to maintain. I’ve had a lot of di erent brands, a lot of di erent cars, but there’s nothing like that. It’s incredible, and it’s been with me for over 30 years-plus now.”
So, what’s next for Dempsey, on his Porsche racing odyssey?
“There’s a bunch of other races I’d like to do, like the Mille Miglia, that’s a challenging race and I’d like to have that experience – some of those classic events,” he muses.
“We’re really kind of discussing what will be next year’s program.”
“I love the Carrera Cup racing. I think if you’re getting into sport, if you can do it, that’s the best place to be. So, I’d love to do some Cup races as well. It just really depends on sponsorship, funding and then availability with scheduling, and then testing, that’s the important thing.”
“I’m fortunate enough to be able to have this opportunity, it’s just the joy of driving and competing, it’s just incredible.”

THERE ARE WATCHES – AND THERE ARE PORSCHE DESIGN TIMEPIECES.
AAlong with engineering some of the quickest sports cars ever to touch a road or racetrack, Porsche is also well-known in the world of haute horology, with a rich heritage in crafting a collection of automotive-inspired luxury watches. The ‘Exclusive Vehicle Watches’ series stands at the pinnacle of Porsche Design’s watch collection. They’re extensions of the sports cars we dream about owning one day, whether it be the heartpounding performance of a 911 Turbo or the adventurous spirit of the o -road-ready 911 Dakar. Each model tells a story while cementing its place in history, incorporating design characteristics and materials straight from the cars they’re inspired by.
It all began in 1972 with the opening of Studio F.A. Porsche, where Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche first developed the black Porsche Design Chronograph 1 as a revolutionary watch that acted as an extension of the 911s his father Ferry was producing. The ideology behind crafting such a watch started with a focus on delivering a high-quality gift for deserving employees and select customers. The Chronograph I was the first matte black chronograph to shake up the watch world, sparking plenty of controversy. F.A. Porsche infused the spirit of the 911, its performance, speed, and elegance, into the Chronograph I, e ectively turning it into the first sports car for your wrist.
Porsche Design’s Exclusive Vehicle Watches are unique and available only to owners who configure a limited-production Porsche and opt for a personalized timepiece. Each watch is crafted to mirror the materials, colors, and spirit of the 911 or 718, guaranteeing that each custom timepiece is an actual work of art. Whether it’s carbon fiber characteristics, leather accents, or signature PTS (Paint-to-Sample) shades, Porsche Design takes all the necessary steps to perfectly match the specifications you have on order. Additionally, each watch is paired with matching production numbers, aligning it with the specific vehicle it was intended for. The attention to detail and exclusive qualities create a deep personal connection between the watch, the car, and its owner, elevating the ownership experience to a whole new level of luxury.
Porsche Design’s lineup of limited-production, automotive-inspired chronographs includes models like the Chronograph 911 Turbo 50 Years, 911 GT3 RS Chronograph, Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T, Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar, and Chronograph 718 Spyder RS. The watches feature distinctive elements like carbon fiber dials, race-inspired details, and special engravings that reflect the spirit and performance of the cars. For example, the 911 Turbo 50 Years Chronograph captures the iconic styling of the Porsche 911, while the 911 GT3 RS Chronograph is designed with performance in mind, showcasing its power and precision.
Porsche Design and its Exclusive Vehicle Watches are memorable ways to carry a piece of your Porsche with you, whether on a commute to work or a weekend track day. For Porsche owners, these timepieces offer more than just a way to tell time; they’re a nod to their car’s legacy and craftsmanship.

PREPARE FOR BOATING SEASON WITH MARINE PROTECTION FILM AND CERAMIC COATINGS
January is the perfect time for boat owners to prepare for the upcoming boating season. While your boat may be out of the water, now is the ideal opportunity to invest in marine protection film and ceramic coating solutions to keep it in peak condition for the adventures ahead.
XPEL Marine Protection Film, a nearly invisible layer of high-durability polyurethane, is an excellent safeguard for high-impact areas like the hull, transom, and engine cowling. This film acts as a shield against scratches, dockside scuffs, fishing gear scrapes, and trailering wear. By applying it during the off season, you’ll ensure that your boat’s finish stays flawless even through the most active boating days.
XPEL Ceramic Coatings are another essential layer of defense, providing unmatched protection and ease of maintenance. These coatings create a hydrophobic barrier that repels water, dirt, and marine growth. Applying ceramic coating to the hull prevents staining from algae, saltwater, and debris, making cleanup after a day on the water a breeze. When used on the engine cowling, ceramic coatings guard against UV damage, oxidation, and fading, preserving its sleek appearance for years to come.
By combining marine protection film and ceramic coatings, you’re giving your boat the ultimate shield against wear and tear while reducing your maintenance workload. Take advantage of the off season to have these products professionally applied, so your boat is ready to hit the water in pristine condition when the weather warms up.
Investing in these protective solutions not only ensures your boat looks its best but also helps maintain its value and performance for the long term. Start the boating season strong by prioritizing protection and preservation this winter!

To give it the proper sendoff from under the hoods of Aston Martins that it deserves, the historic British manufacturer created the DBS 770 Ultimate, and made sure that it would live up to its name. Being a proper farewell to its 5.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 engine and the current-generation Aston Martin DBS, the manufacturer pushed the engine to its limits, and with 759 horsepower, it’s the most powerful car that Aston Martin has made yet. This is the only vehicle where Aston Martin has modified the Transmission Shift Pattern.
It’s able to get from 0-60 in under 3.4 seconds, and it tops out at a soaring 211 mph, on top of all of that, its production number of just 199 Volante examples, makes it one of the most exclusive and desirable Aston Martins as well.
With Aston Martin’s unmistakable blend of British elegance, opulent
timeless style, and exhilarating performance, the DBS 770 Ultimate Volante won’t be an easy car to get your hands on.
McLaren’s pioneering P1 is an eye-catching, limitedproduction plug-in hybrid sports car that followed on from the British manufacturer’s iconic F1 model in the middle of the last decade. But what makes it a good investment in 2025?
WORDS : Charles Bradley
How many McLaren P1 cars were built?
Previewed in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show, and launched at Geneva in 2013, a production run of just over two years produced 375 cars, making it highly collectible. Designed by Frank Stephenson, and known internally as the ‘Mega Mac’, its aims were track oriented but did not target record-breaking top speed, as the F1 had achieved in its day.
What are the main selling points of the McLaren P1?
Following on from the renowned F1 model, the P1 features a 3.8liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 727 horsepower, but this is boosted to 903 hp by a 131 kilowatt electric motor, which can be deployed manually by the driver or the engine’s control unit. This pioneering hybrid technology set a benchmark in performance and sustainability for hypercars.
The P1’s body incorporates active aerodynamics, including an airbrake spoiler, and the ability to be lowered by 50 millimeters in its race setting. McLaren’s interlinked hydropneumatic dampers can also be sti ened by up to 300 percent in this mode, making the P1 hugely capable on a racetrack, yet still su ciently supple for road use.
The P1 o ers jaw-dropping performance, capable of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.
What do you need to know before you buy a McLaren P1?
As with all makes and models, you must focus on the condition, mileage, service history, specification and options. For instance, McLaren also launched variants of the P1, starting with the trackonly GTR in 2015 that celebrated the 20th anniversary of its 24 Hours of Le Mans victory in 1995. It was first o ered to existing P1 owners, and 58 were made in total.
UK-based specialist Lanzante Motorsport further commissioned McLaren’s Special Operations’ Bespoke division to build further specials, including the LM, GT and Spider.
What are the known issues with the McLaren P1?
In January 2016, America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall for 122 P1 cars (model years 2014–2015) manufactured between March 1, 2013 and October 31, 2015 due to a faulty secondary bonnet latch.
How many McLaren P1 cars were sold last year?
Per sales auction data from Hammer Price, six McLaren P1s were sold in 2024, while another four failed to sell. There was a 50/50 split between 2014 and 2015 model years.
What is the average price of McLaren P1 sales in 2024?
Last year’s online sales auction total for the McLaren P1 was $7.9 million, with an average price per sale of $1.3 million. The highest price paid last year was $2,095,000 for a Gulf Oil-liveried 2015 car with 1913 miles on the clock. The sale occurred at RM Sotheby’s ‘Dare to Dream’ Toronto auction.
What is the record price paid for a McLaren P1?
The record price paid for a P1 was set at $2,425,000 for the second-to-last car ever produced of the 375 total at Broad Arrow’s Amelia Island auction in 2023. With just 130 miles on the clock, this exposed carbon fiber bodywork example featured over $400,000 in selected options from McLaren’s Special Operations department. It had been prominently displayed on loan in various Petersen Museum exhibits.
What is the lowest price paid for a McLaren P1?
The lowest price paid for a P1 at auction was set in 2024 at $1,006,250 for a Mercury Red example, with Harissa Red/ Slate Grey interior, at RM Sotheby’s Dubai auction. It had 7,205 kilometers on the clock, and just one owner since it was delivered to Kuwait. An aspect that likely impacted its price was that its hybrid battery was flat, and the car cannot run until this fault is rectified – with a fix estimated at $215,000.
Conclusion
While some P1s remained unsold at auction, only 21 have sold across the last five years, so their increasing rarity and legendary status among McLaren’s lineup make them a coveted asset for collectors. The McLaren P1 is poised to become a future classic, and the fact that it’s rarer than both of its contemporary rivals, the LaFerrari and Porsche 918, only adds to its allure.
The big question is whether it will follow the F1’s trend. Just over a dozen years into its lifespan, sales began to triple the original $685,000 asking price around the time of the global financial crisis. Since then, they have continued to rise further – peaking at $20,465,000 in 2021 for chassis number 029. This car, the only brown-on-brown F1, went back on sale in 2024 via a sealed bid auction, so we’ll never know if it sold for even more…
