ello everyone, allow me to introduce myself: I’m Charles Bradley, the new Editor-in-Chief of duPont REGISTRY Group, and I’m bringing over 30 years of publishing experience on both sides of the Atlantic to this incredible magazine.
My background is motorsports, so it’s fitting that our cover star this month is Steve McQueen’s very own Porsche 917K used in the filming of Le Mans, renowned as one of the greatest auto racing movies ever made. The ‘king of cool’ certainly was a skilled wheelman, and although he was forbidden from taking part in the 24-hour race itself, he drove this car during post-event filming to create a true classic of the genre. Coming soon, this car goes across the block at Mecum’s 2025 Kissimmee auction – will this highly sought-after beauty create a new record? Matt Avery gives you the lowdown on this one-of-a-kind racer, that was also owned by Jerry Seinfeld!
In the DRIVE section, the racing theme continues as I get a taste of the Miami Grand Prix’s exclusive new drive club, called Precision. Whether it’s lapping a Formula 1 racetrack in a Ferrari 488 Pista, or sipping Charles Heidsieck champagne in the Miami Dolphins locker room afterwards, it was a first assignment that created fine memories!
Also, Gabriel Vega Cortés reviews the latest Ferrari Purosangue, the V12powered machine from the Prancing Horse’s stable that’s romping along in the super SUV market. Keeping things Italian, we get exclusive insight from Lamborghini’s Product Line Director, Paolo Racchetti, as he guides us around the Temerario, Sant’Agata Bolognese’s latest 909 horsepower supercar from its high-performance electrified range.
In our LIVE section, we bring you the annual Holiday Gift Guide, featuring 12 pages of luxury goods for everyone in the family. Our SELL section, as always, brings you the best exotic and luxury cars, and the rarest classics, that are on sale worldwide.
Happy reading, and drive safely!

MC QUEEN’S 917
Steve McQueen’s Cinematic Le Mans Star
WORDS : Matt Avery
TThere are cars, and then there are legends. Vehicles that draft into the zeitgeist to define an era, going on to be lusted after, talked about, and revered for decades to come.
It’s a nearly impossible task, but one that the 1969 Porsche 917K Chassis Number 917-022 has e ortlessly accomplished, capturing lightning in a bottle to become an enduring icon in both motorsport lore and pop culture.
The stars aligned, cementing its status as one of the most recognizable race cars of all time.
A STAR IS BORN: MCQUEEN’S ACQUISITION
From the outset, this Porsche 917 was destined for greatness. After leaving the factory in West Germany in 1970, it was purchased by Hollywood’s high-octane rebel, Steve McQueen, through his Solar Productions company.
McQueen, an avid motorsports enthusiast, had just finished second at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 1970, driving a Solar Productions Porsche 908/2 alongside Peter Revson. Fueled by this success, McQueen set his sights on not only producing a film about the world’s greatest endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but also competing in the event himself. His ambitious plan was to drive a Porsche 917K, with none other than Sir Jackie Stewart as his co-driver.
However, the dream of racing at Le Mans came to an abrupt halt when Cinema Center Films, a production company involved in the making of Le Mans, forbade McQueen from participating. Their concerns over the financial risks—if McQueen were to be injured or worse—ultimately outweighed his passion to compete.
McQueen himself performed stunt driving in 917-022, a car specially outfitted for production.
••• At the center of the production for Le Mans was the Porsche 917-022, with its aerodynamic design and iconic Gulf Oil blue-and-orange livery.
THERE ARE CARS, AND THEN THERE ARE LEGENDS.
A DRIVE IN THE COUNTRY AT 200MPH: FILMING LEMANS
Undeterred, McQueen shifted focus to telling the story of the storied race on screen. The newly acquired Porsche 917 was shipped to northwest France, ready for its starring role in Le Mans (1971), now regarded as one of the most authentic and raw depictions of motorsport ever captured.
The production itself was as grueling as the races it sought to recreate. Filming began during the real 38th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 1970 and stretched on for months. In front of 50,000 spectators, 19 cameras, operated by a 45-member crew, were placed around the track to record the high-octane action.
But the true technical innovation came from McQueen’s team. They entered a Porsche 908 equipped with front- and rear-mounted cameras into the actual race to film alongside the competitors. The car not only finished 8th, but it also captured more than 70,000 feet of footage, o ering viewers unprecedented views and perspectives of the race.
THE HEART OF THE STORY: MCQUEEN’S PURSUIT OF AUTHENTICITY
To ensure complete authenticity, McQueen enlisted a team of 221, including top drivers and 45 cameramen. After the race, Andrew Ferguson, a British racing team manager, set up a specialized racing department to organize filming, hiring 56 professional drivers and sourcing 25 of the world’s fastest cars, including four Porsche 917s, Ferrari 512s, and more. This commitment to realism defined Le Mans
At the center of the production was the Porsche 917-022, with its aerodynamic design and iconic Gulf Oil blue-and-orange livery. As the hero car driven by McQueen’s character, Michael Delaney, it became a symbol of the film’s high-speed drama.
McQueen himself performed stunt driving in 917-022, a car specially outfitted for production. For these sequences, crews attached camera brackets to the car’s framework, enabling intense in-car shots of McQueen and his co-drivers at speed. Remarkably, those mounting points remain intact today, a lasting testament to the car’s role in capturing some of the film’s most thrilling moments.
In Le Mans, McQueen begins the race in 917-022, bearing the famous Gulf Oil No. 20 livery. Although his character crashes out of the race, the real car survived. Cleverly, the filmmakers used Lola T70 chassis disguised with Porsche bodywork for crash scenes, preserving 917-022 for later use. Some claim the car was repainted as No. 21 in certain scenes, but there’s no doubt about its starring role on screen.
Opposite McQueen’s Porsche 917, German actor Siegfried Rauch played Delaney’s Ferrari-driving rival, while Elga Anderson provided strong support. However, Le Mans wasn’t a typical Hollywood film. Critics noted its documentary-like feel, praising its raw, unfiltered focus on actual wheel-to-wheel racing—giving the movie a visceral realism that remains impactful today.
Special effects were overseen by Sass Bedig, famous for orchestrating the iconic chase scene in Bullitt involving McQueen behind the wheel of a 1968 Mustang, outrunning henchman in a sinister black Dodge Charger. As in Bullitt, where McQueen did his own stunts, his dedication to authenticity in Le Mans solidified his place as both a serious actor and a true gearhead.
SUCCESS ON THE CIRCUIT: RACING HISTORY POST-LE MANS
After filming for Le Mans wrapped, Porsche 917-022 embarked on its own storied journey, transitioning from movie star to full-out race car once again. In 1971, it was purchased by Reinhold Joest, an accomplished driver and future racing legend who got his start winning hillclimb races in the German mountains. Joest, who would later win the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring (twice) and guide his team, Joest Racing, to an astounding 15 victories at Le Mans, campaigned 917-022 with Team Auto Usdau Racing.
Alongside Porsche factory driver Willi Kauhsen, Angel Monguzzi, and Joe Siffert, Joest enjoyed great success during the 1971 World Manufacturers Championship season, further cementing the legacy of 917-022 on the track.
By 1975, Joest decided to part ways with the legendary machine, selling it to Porsche factory driver and seasoned endurance competitor and race Hall of Famer Brian Redman in January of that year. Notably,
Redman had raced in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 917K that bore the same blue-and-orange Gulf Oil No. 20 livery as the 917-022 seen in McQueen’s film.
Three years later, Redman passed 917-022 along to his friend and fellow Porsche driver and World Championship Grands Prix veteran, Richard Attwood. Attwood, who had piloted a Porsche 917K to victory in the 1970 Le Mans race, campaigned 917-022 in various European historic racing events. At one point during his ownership, Attwood chose to refinish the car in a striking red-and-white livery, echoing the Salzburg 917K he and Hans Herrmann drove to Porsche’s first overall win at Le Mans in 1970.
Attwood held onto 917-022 for over two decades before deciding to part with it in 1999. Prior to the sale, he had the car restored to its iconic blue-and-orange Gulf Oil livery, paying tribute to its starring role in Le Mans. The car was purchased by renowned Porsche collector Frank Gallogly, who, in 2001, passed it on to comedian, television star and passionate Porsche enthusiast Jerry Seinfeld.
THE LEGEND LIVES ON: THE RESTORATION OF 917-022
Since joining Jerry Seinfeld’s impressive collection, 917-022 has become a prominent fixture at prestigious automotive events, including the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2009 and again in 2021, and the Porsche Rennsport Reunion V in 2015.
Today, Porsche 917-022 is more breathtaking than ever, thanks to a comprehensive overhaul by Cavaglieri Restorations in Van Nuys, California. The primary goal was to return the car to its original screen-used specifications while revitalizing its mechanical components. Experts from Ed Pink Racing Engines in Van Nuys handled the engine rebuild, while John Bunin and Adrian Gang brought their specialized expertise to the transmission, bringing the car’s powertrain back to its peak performance.
As part of the effort, a new fuel cell was custom fabricated to match the original unit. During the project, the 917K’s frame was pressure-tested for cracks and leaks, with repairs made as necessary. Both the four-wheel hydraulic ventilated disc brakes and the four-wheel independent suspension underwent magnafluxing and refurbishment.
Completed in August 2024, this meticulous transformation included a repaint of the entire car, even returning the frame to its original black finish.
The iconic blue-and-orange Gulf Oil No. 20 livery from Le Mans, right down to the expertly installed new graphics, was meticulously and correctly matched to its grand on-screen appearance.
PRECISION ENGINEERING MEETS RACING DOMINANCE
The immense appeal of 917-022 extends well beyond the cinematic spotlight. The model was a terrific competitor, first appearing in the 1969 season and securing victory at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans with a red-and-white example with #23 livery driven by Richard Attwood and Herrmann taking top honors. Another victory was secured at Le Mans in 1971 with a blue and white 917 being driven to first place by Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep.
Chassis No. 917-022 is powered by its original, matching-numbers Type 912 4494cc DOHC air-cooled 180-degree V-12 engine, paired with a 4-speed allsynchromesh manual transaxle. This powerhouse setup includes Bosch mechanical fuel injection, with an 88mm bore and 66mm stroke, and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. The result is an impressive output of 580 BHP at 8,400 RPM and 366 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 RPM, making the Type 912 engine a formidable force both on the track and in the annals of motorsport history.
WORLDWIDE APPEAL: AN AUCTION FOR THE AGES
There are unforgettable movie cars, heart-pounding race competitors, and timeless classics owned by beloved celebrity figures. Yet, it’s a rare rolling gem that manages to infuse all these alluring elements into one stunning package.
Porsche 917-022 is that exceptional car, seamlessly blending cinematic history with genuine motorsport pedigree. From its iconic role on the silver screen to its real-world racetrack performance, it is a remarkable piece of automotive artistry, forever linked to those pop-culture legends, Steve McQueen and Jerry Seinfeld.
But it’s not time to roll credits or drop a checkered flag, as its story isn’t over. The one-of-a-kind, starstudded 917-022 is set to cross the auction block at Mecum’s 2025 Kissimmee auction, The World’s Largest Collector Car Auction®.
As it takes center stage under the Florida sun, the world will be watching as this spectacular vehicle shatters records and secures its legacy as one of the most sought-after treasures in automotive history.
IN JANUARY 1975, PORSCHE 917-022 WAS ACQUIRED BY PORSCHE FACTORY DRIVER BRIAN REDMAN (PICTURED ABOVE).

LAMBORGHINI’S ELECTRIFIED NEW CHAPTER
•••
The Lamborghini Temerario, unveiled at Monterey Car Week 2024 as the second model in Lamborghini’s High-Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) range following the Revuelto, boasts a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain delivering 909 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds, and reaching a top speed of over 210 mph.
WORDS : Gabriel Vega Cortés
A new Lamborghini engine comes at most once per decade, and the Temerario, unveiled during this year’s The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, isn’t just the latest raging bull. It’s powered by a bespoke powertrain built just for it. We sat with Lamborghini’s Product Line Director, Paolo Racchetti, for a walk around Sant’Agata Bolognese’s latest supercar.
Some responses have been edited for clarity.
dR: The Temerario’s V8 is all-new. Was it developed fully in-house?
Racchetti: This is not just a turbo V8 engine; it’s a V8 turbo hybrid. We’re highlighting this because it has been developed by Lamborghini, tested by Lamborghini, and will be manufactured by Lamborghini. It will be used exclusively by Lamborghini.
Everyone else is investing in electric motors, but we also have to keep on doing the internal combustion engine because that’s what makes our car di erent and unique and the way it works with the electric motor. That provides an improved level of torque at low revs, so you basically have instantaneous responsiveness, optional tension, and zero turbo lag. Then we have the biggest turbines you can have to create a really big push.
dR: What inspired Lamborghini to build such a highrevving engine?
Racchetti : We wanted to provide the same driving engagement as the V10. Therefore, we had to find something di erent, something unique, and something that provides you a di erent sensation than just a turbo. And that’s why we have content coming straight from motorsports, such as the crankshaft and titanium con rods. That’s how we are able toreach 10,000 rpm.
It’s something you have to try because you really feel at 6,000 rpm that you’re already at the peak, but you have to resist. You have to say, “No, this car can go to 10,000 rpm.” And at the end of 6,000 to 10,000 rpm, that’s where the magic happens. We knew the V10 would be di cult to replace, and now we have this engine here that provides the best experience.
dR: How does the Temerario accommodate an electric motor and the battery pack while retaining its interior space?
Racchetti: If you think about the structure, it’s really complicated. We have a front E-axle with a front inverter, the battery in the runner, and then the engine and the transversal gearbox. So we had to develop this new body in white that had to not only be really light, but we also had to have space for people as tall as two meters (6 feet 6 inches) And then we are o ering capacity for two cabin trolleys in the front and two behind the seats. The mission is to allow for weekend trips and without luggage space, that’s complicated, especially with a partner.
So roominess, luggage capacity, comfort of the seat, that’s really maximum level of comfort that you can have on a Lamborghini suitable for a long trip.

Scan the QR code to view all Lamborghinis for sale.
dR: Given its ability to cruise on electric power alone, do you envision customers driving their Temerario daily?
Racchetti: Yes. I really think that will happen. That’s what our customers were asking us and I’m pretty sure that will be one of the keys to its success. On one end, they’ll find an upper level of performance, a driving experience that nobody else is o ering right now, thanks to the engine. But then you will have something that nobody’s expecting. For us, it’s a knockout factor. A versatile driving comfort and usability that is unexpected for this kind of car. And this is one of the key secret ingredients for its success.

Maranello builds a thrilling V12 grand tourer that happens to seat four.
WORDS : Gabriel Vega Cortés
The Purosangue doesn’t have to save Ferrari. It won’t sell in significant numbers because Maranello won’t build many. And it certainly isn’t meant to attract new customers to the brand; its allocations are reserved for the marque’s most loyal clientele. With its limited order books filled through 2026, the Purosangue is a performance four-door, four-seater built by a brand that doesn’t need one to survive. Yet it’s by forgetting about mass-market appeal that it shows us what a true super SUV can be.
In a segment powered almost exclusively by twinturbocharged V8s, the Purosangue’s 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 is both old-school and distinct. It’s mounted behind the front axle in a front-mid configuration, with its eight-speed dual-clutch automatic relegated to the back for better weight distribution. Crucially, there are no electric motors to speak of. Only its Power Transfer Unit sits in front of the engine, making it all-wheel drive.
It rides on a new aluminum chassis, which is lighter and more torsionally rigid despite being larger than the GTC4 Lusso’s. It incorporates a carbon fiber roof to reduce its center of gravity and a front-hinged hood and rear-hinged back doors to achieve its distinct aesthetic. Like the 812 Superfast, its cabin sits closer to its rear axle, sporting a long-hood design characteristic of Maranello’s grand tourers.
The Purosangue’s chassis is completely new and larger than Ferrari’s previous four-seaters, but is also lighter.
Stepping in conjures memories of the discontinued fourseat Lusso, with the Purosangue incorporating a familiar layout. Its flat-bottomed wheel, digital instrument cluster, and colorful passenger display are more reminiscent of the 296 GTB. However, despite its larger interior real estate, Ferrari’s SUV doesn’t o er a central infotainment display like the Roma. It relegates vital A/C and seat controls to a minuscule touchscreen dial that’s challenging to operate on the move.
Yet, the first few miles in the Purosangue make an apologist of even the staunchest critic. At lower speeds, its V12 hums almost silently, its dual-clutch moving through speeds seamlessly while its active suspension, co-developed with Multimatic, delivers a plush but settled ride. Ferrari’s first SUV is equally at home devouring miles on the highway or crawling in tra c in its most relaxed drive modes.
A twist of its Manettino awakes in the Purosangue in a way no other performance SUV we’ve tested does. Its quad pipes open, doubling the V12’s volume and presence. Increased throttle response allows it to deliver power like only a naturally aspirated engine can. Although Ferrari developed it to produce 80 percent of its torque at low revs, it doesn’t hand over all 715 horses until you near its 8,250-rpm redline. Even its 528 pound-feet of torque doesn’t come in until 6,250 rpm.
•••
Fans of the SF90 Stradale will be pleased to know the Purosangue’s driver cockpit was inspired by the hybrid supercar.
The result is an SUV that begs to be revved. It’s a four-seater you’ll need to drive like a supercar to fully appreciate and reap the rewards of its screaming engine and tremendous speed. A pace supplemented by its active suspension, which, thanks to electric motors, can e ectively dial out body roll. And like the 296 GTB, its steering is quick to respond and ultra-precise.
The Purosangue is a scalpel in a world of hammers. You can’t rely on a burst of low-end torque to launch you out of a bend. Approaching every twist of the road requires careful calculation. Keep the momentum and the revs high, and it’ll rocket out the other side. Fast in, faster out.
It’s this dual-persona that distinguishes this Ferrari. Like its rivals, it’s spacious, comfortable, and beautifully appointed. However, thanks to its Multimatic suspension, naturally-aspirated V12, and engaging driving experience, the Purosnague isn’t just a fast SUV built by a marque that produces supercars. It is the defining super SUV.

Inside the exclusive new driving club at Miami’s F1 track.
WORDS : Charles Bradley
Miami’s Crypto.com Grand Prix has become a well-established stop for the Formula 1 World Championship’s fastest show on earth, but its high-speed racetrack has been a little… underutilized – until now. The Miami GP’s promoter, South Florida Motorsports, has devised the most exclusive driving club experience that money can buy, called Precision, so not only Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen get to enjoy the sinuous twists and turns around the iconic Hard Rock Stadium. And duPont REGISTRY got a sneak preview on what’s in store.
The practicality of running its racetrack around the multi-function venue – which also hosts the Miami Open tennis event, gigantic concerts for pop stars like Taylor Swift and Coldplay, as well as the famed Miami Dolphins and Hurricanes football teams – has meant some lateral thinking was required regarding the course’s layout. The 3.363 miles of asphalt that the F1 stars lap up crosses a public road at two spots, which causes obvious disruption to the surrounding area, especially as they are link roads of the nearby Florida Turnpike. F1 circuit design guru Tilke was tasked with creating three ‘cut through’ sections of track – after Turn 3, another at Turn 10 and a hairpin before Turn 17 of the F1 layout – to give maximum flexibility, allowing it to be run without closing the public roads or impact construction ahead of other big events at the stadium.
The Miami GP’s sporting and racing operations oracle John Murphy took duPont REGISTRY on a guided tour of the circuit in one of its course cars that are used during the F1 event. The circuit that’s open today is the Marina Loop, a 2.44-mile version that takes in the first 10 turns of the F1 track before a new section takes it on to the back straight. There, it breaks left early, before the hairpin that’s Turn 17 on the GP layout, and rejoins it through the final corners before the start/finish line.
“Setting up the track, and taking it down, the whole thing is a giant jigsaw and a huge challenge,” says Murphy. “Taylor Swift was here recently – not for a track day, though! On football days we have 130 buses pulling up on our front stretch, it’s a very busy stadium. But we’ve worked out how we can operate the racetrack around it, and it’s pretty cool.”
We also get a hot lap in a track-tuned Ferrari 488 Pista, and the new corner, christened Turn 10 Alpha, is a “typically Tilke” left-right-left sequence. That leads on to a curvy, flat- out section that rejoins the back straight just after the F1 DRS activation zone. The tight hairpin that follows, also a new section of track, is great for exploring the Ferrari’s stopping power via its huge brake discs. Just a day after our sneak preview, the FIA was due to visit, to check that the build has been carried out to its Grade 1 standards – so, technically, you could run F1 cars around the new courses.
Other new layouts are the Extended Marina Loop, which includes the F1 track’s hairpins and sweepers that follow, and the shorter 1.43-mile MIA Loop – which also has a longer 1.75-mile version – that incorporates the Turn 3 Alpha cut through. These are likely to be used when the tennis courts need to be accessed.
So that’s the track, what about the club? Precision Drive Club utilizes the same garages graced by Verstappen and Sergio Perez and their Red Bull Racing team. Inside, there’s a full-blown hospitality suite that’s available to its members, open every day that the track days are being operated. There’s also a dedicated space in the Paddock Club building upstairs to enjoy sumptuous meals from many of the best restaurants in Miami.
In another neat twist, drivers can get ready for lapping sessions by getting changed into their firesuits in the very same locker room that the Miami Dolphins team uses during game days, and use their showers too.
To ensure circuit safety, the Race Control room that’s used by the FIA at the Miami GP is in play. A wall of screens relays every inch of racetrack, so if there’s an incident or breakdown, an emergency recovery can be launched within seconds. In another neat twist, the room next door hosts a broadcast team that uses in-car cameras, data logging and graphics to beam a live TV feed into the hospitality areas. This is done via the gallery that’s used for football events inside the stadium.
The message here is ‘Unmatched Driving’ and ‘Unsurpassed Membership’ that are ‘Driven By Exclusivity’. And while other racetracks and country club circuits are available to drive your supercar somewhere towards the limits of its performance, the o ering from

the very team that puts on a Formula 1 show every 12 months certainly delivers on its mission statements for at least 40 track days per year. And there’ll be the chance for members to drive their own cars on track during the F1 Miami GP weekend, and which other venue in the world o ers that?
Miami GP President Tyler Epp says this project has been 15 months in the making. “We’re taking the sights and sounds of the F1 weekend and track to the private racing community,” he explains. “We are launching November 8, it’s unique and special, and very di erent from what else is out there. We want it to be exclusive, this is meant to be for 100 people – the right people, who want to spend time with each other and to experience hospitality and an unmatched driving experience at the highest level.”

PROTECTION BY BLACKOUT TINTING
Hollywood, FL
IN THE WORLD OF BOAT OWNERSHIP, MAINTAINING THAT PRISTINE LOOK IS OFTEN A CHALLENGE.
Enter the Midnight Express 37—a stunning vessel whose owner, familiar with the top-tier automotive protection offered by XPEL, eagerly embraced the opportunity to enhance his boat with the same high-quality MPF (Marine Protection Film).
The boat's owner was particularly concerned about high-contact areas frequently subjected to wear and tear from guests. These included the cooler tops, gunwales, and areas beneath the seats prone to scuffing from feet. Addressing these concerns, the MPF was meticulously installed on all vulnerable spots, complemented by a comprehensive polish and coating of the entire boat interior. Future plans entail giving the boat's exterior a similar treatment once it's docked for maintenance.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Potential users often raise questions about the longevity and durability of MPF, as well as its removability. At the heart of our explanation is the XPEL three-year warranty. We provide honest assessments, noting that areas like the gunwales, where ropes frequently rub, might see a reduced lifespan of six months to a year. However, other sections are expected to last through the warranty period. We emphasize the PPF's role as a replaceable, sacrificial layer—preserving the boat’s impeccable appearance while cutting down on costly repairs and maximizing time spent enjoying the water.
