On The Cover The Sea Force IX 83.5 Series “Rumbera”

W

ith the commissioning of the 83.5 Rumbera, Sea Force IX has raised the bar for luxury performance sport fishing yachts. This vessel encompasses several “Firsts” for the company and the discriminating yacht owner. First “First”: The Full beam master layout is worked into the rugged “Monolithic” construction envelope that sets the Sea Force vessels apart. The luxurious Master suite is located athwartship in the vessel’s midsection where motion comfort and quiet seclusion are the best. Port and starboard fixed portlights add natural light to the highly figured blond English Sycamore and Ultra-suede décor. The spacious master head is detailed with aircraft grade Silver Travertine marble for the vanity, floors and shower. The forward accommodation layout is unique to the owner’s needs. A VIP stateroom to port has a king size berth flanked with full height hanging lockers. The forward adjoining head is detailed with green onyx flooring and vanity top with Trendstone shower lining. The starboard guest stateroom has three single fore and aft berths with hull side storage and a full height-hanging locker. The forward adjoining head is detailed with chateau gold marble flooring and white onyx vanity top with Trendstone shower lining. The salon and galley are split with five star amenities throughout. Again the cabinetry is made with hand selected highly figured English Sycamore. The island galley houses the custom “all-drawer” commercial stainless steel cold storage units. Advantum cooktop, full oven and microwave appliances are arrayed in the forward cabinetry along with the Bosch dishwasher. All countertops in the galley and salon are made with aircraft grade Persa Avorio granite. A full size dining table with six chairs is on the galley level with Trendstone flooring. The salon level has a custom sofa with an exquisite high low table. Opposite the sofa is a full function bar, television console, custom artisan-made stairway and a day head, another Sea Force first. The interior décor is a result of the creativity of the owners and Interior Design South. Bridge level is both business and pleasure. A full array of the latest electronics encompasses the entire breadth of the bridge. Two Stidd helm chairs and a double companion seat complete the business end. A full L settee, television console and wet bar provide the pleasure.

This vessel is also Sea Force’s first totally LED lighting scheme using Cantalupi’ s latest technology. Second “First: Sea Force IX’s “Ultimate Ride” enhanced the Rumbera with the Ultimate Drive Line that all other large performance sport fishing vessels will be hard pressed to compete against. Their proven dynamic hull form, weight program, Monolithic construction and sport yacht handling has been engineered with a unique performance propeller pocket and NACA foil strut designed by a renowned hydrodynamic expert. The finishing touch is a pair of custom Veem propellers and the Ultimate Ride has never been smoother, quieter or fuel-efficient. The machinery list is comprehensive and redundant as one would expect in a vessel with ocean crossing capability at the 10 know steaming speed. The exterior is painted with multiple layers of Awlgrip topcoat applied over the fully faired and baked composite laminate, a process perfected at Sea Force IX. The fit and finish is flawless. The Rumbera is all about fishing with the cockpit detailed and equipped for serious angling. The leisure deck is unique with the settee able to sit both ways. The final piece to this jewel is a custom designed tower and outriggers.

While it is good to be known as a leader in this industry, it is difficult to leave out the largest boat market in the world; the United States. Therefore, it was a strategic move to bring this

expertise to the U.S. market to better position ourselves as a leader in the marine industry. Furthermore, operating in different countries allows us to weather the current economic crisis. Economic conditions are cyclical in nature and typically do not affect the whole global market, but rather are concentrated on certain regions and/or countries. However, in this atypical economic period all global markets have been affected. Our partners know we are here to service them everywhere and to be true partners. Together we are prepared to endure and succeed in this market. dR: How does your new role as Global Director of Financing Activity change your mission? CGI: It really does not change my core mission but gives me the opportunity to expand it in order to ensure the mission of the overall company is uniformed throughout all the markets. Remember, we are taking a business plan that is very successful in the European market and now utilizing that same plan in other markets, including the United States. dR: How did you begin your adventure with Société Générale? CGI: Shortly after joining SG, I worked in different U.S. expansion projects. The projects included stock options, employee stock purchase plans, corporate services, fleet management, and issue right services. My work with these projects required me to travel and live in various U.S. cities. It was during this time that I began to learn and embrace the American culture. dR: To what do you attribute your success and the success of your divisions? he Meisman family of Tarpon Springs on the West Coast of Florida started Quality T-Tops, a marine aluminum fabrication business in 1995. Dave Meisman, his wife Trish, along with their then teenage sons Kevin and Travis, put together a team of welders and began producing custom aluminum work out of a 9,000 square foot building on the Anclote River. T-Tops, the aluminum framed, canvas topped sunshades that mount over traditional center consoles, were, and still are, one of their most popular items. “In our first year we built T-Tops and some other good sized items for a mostly local crowd,” Dave said. Dave and Travis Meisman working closely with the area’s veteran fishermen, designed and crafted what would be the first towerboats to fish the waters of Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough Counties. Quality T-Tops, now with over 35,000 square feet to work from, has now become the largest aluminum fabricator in West Florida offering not just welding but canvas work, fiberglass fabrication, and rigging services. Custom boat companies such as Intrepid, Jupiter, Gause, and Cooper have most of their factory aluminum work done by the Meisman family business and the list of clients grows every day. Dave says, “When we started this company we did work on about 50 boats a year. Now we do about 500. We have built tops or towers for sportfishing boats up to 72 feet long and excursion vessels much larger while they sat in the water out back,” Today console towers have supplanted TTops and the number one product requested by the boaters and fishermen. “We still do a lot of T-Tops, leaning posts, marlin towers, and poling platforms but the console towers have edged them all out as our biggest sellers in the last few years,” Travis explained. This is apparent with a visit to the facility where, among other large aluminum parts, rows of glistening new silver console tower frames are lined up in various stages of construction or installation. Dozens of boats from 15 feet to 35 feet line the interior of the massive building and a dozen more are outside or tied up to the docks out back. Teams of helmeted welders, wire riggers, pipe benders, canvas artisans, and others are busy working just about everywhere you look. So where do they go next? “We are guided solely by the needs of the fishing and boating community. Whatever the next big thing is, we’ll be there making what they want,” Dave says. And the future of this family business? With a proud look on his face Dave Meisman states, “Travis and Kevin have done a great job and essentially run the show now. Trish and I still help with some of the day to day operations but we have stepped back a little bit. The boys are quite capable of handling the operation themselves.”

Practically-Perfect Having produced over 80 3600 Supercats between 2003 and 2008, it was time to give those owners something new so that they could move up. Although the 4300 and now 4400 Supercat and Roadster have been available the 12’ beam was a deterrent to some buyers. When it came time for a new model we looked to our customers to come up with a wish list of features they wanted.
