By Paul Byrne Dundalk Councillor John McGahon has been selected to contest the next general election in Louth and East Meath by his party Fine Gael in the hope to succeed Peter Fitzpatrick who resigned from the party this week. John was selected at the Fine Gael convention which was held in the Crowne Plaza in Dundalk last week. The convention had been due to take place last month but was postponed following

It was agreed by party executives to put the convention date back to give prospective candidates time to canvass party members. There were a number of candidates who put their names forward for selection including Dundalk councillors John McGahon and Maria Doyle. Continued on Page 2
