A spate of burglaries in recent months around Dundalk have left residents feeling terrified in their own homes according to a local community volunteer. Anthony Taaffe who chairs the O’Hanlon Park and Hillview Residents Association stated that the amount of burglaries in the area have been on the rise over the last number of months and claimed that it is a well-known gang of four men who are responsible for the
majority of the break-ins. “To be honest it has got to the stage where we need to schedule an emergency meeting with the local community policing unit to let them know that there are many people in our communities who simply don’t feel safe. We generally meet up with the community policing unit four times a year but we feel that the situation has become so bad that we need to call an emergency meeting as soon as possible,” he stated.
