Dundalk FC are awaiting an explanation of the decision by UEFA to impose a fine of €18,000 before deciding in their next course of action. The club received notification from UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee that they had breached two rules during their recent European game against Hadjuk Split. and would receive a €18k fine. However, the club is believed to be exploring the possibility of appealing the fine but will not make any decision until they have studied the ruling. A spokesperson for UEFA told the Dundalk Leader that “The club was sanc-
tioned for the display of an illicit banner and insufficient organisation. Further information is currently not available, since the club has asked for written grounds of the decision and may still appeal". It is understood that one of the breaches relate to a Palestinian flag being flown by supporters during the game at Oriel Park on July 17. Prior to kick-off, a UEFA match delegate in Oriel had asked the club to have the flag removed, however, the flag appeared again during the game and UEFA see this a breach of their rules.
