A community’s bid to halt the building of a large whiskey warehouse facility consisting of 13 maturation warehouses on an 111 acre site have been dealt a blow following an intervention by Louth County Council. The ‘Kilcurry Concerned Residents’ committee were notified last week that Louth County Council have published a material contravention to the County Development Plan 2015-21 to facilitate the construction of the warehouses. The Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk which is owned by John Teeling had proposed the plans for the building of the warehouses in Kilcurry but the company were immediately met

with strong resistance from residents. The group have bought a site in Kilcurry on land behind St Brigid’s church and lodged an application for the development of a whiskey warehouse facility consisting of thirteen maturation warehouses and ancillary building structures on a 111-acre site. Just last month John Teeling seemed to admit defeat with regards to the project getting the go ahead from council officials. “It’s a lot like data centres. If there were a couple of hundred jobs it’d be easier, but a data centre and a whiskey warehouse don’t have many jobs,” stated John.
