The local community have rallied round to offer help and support to local couple Susan and George Mulligan whose house was destroyed in a fire on Valentines Day. The fire broke out in the attic of the couple’s home in Muirhevnamor shortly before midday and quickly spread causing the ceilings to collapse and destroying the house. Thankfully nobody was injured during the blaze. Susan and George had only recently returned to Dundalk having moved to Kerry in recent years. The pair missed living in Dundalk and when their old house went back on the market last year they

jumped at the chance to return home. The couple put their life savings into the house and moved back last September with Susan returning to work on the frontline at St Oliver’s Nursing Home to help out during the coronavirus pandemic. Both Susan and George subsequently got Covid and in dealing with that as well as underlying health issues throughout December and January they didn’t get a chance to take out a house insurance policy. That made it all the more devastating as the pair watched their home burn to the ground on Valentines Day as fire engines from Dundalk and Ardee tackled the blaze. Continued on Page 2
