Distillery to open in New Year

The Great Northern Distillery will be up and running by January according to the man who bought the brewery from Diageo last year. Entrepreneur John Teeling reached agreement with Diageo to buy the Great Northern Brewery site in Dundalk last year and indicated he would spend €35m over four years to transform the brewery into one of the biggest whiskey distilleries in Ireland. Teeling made headlines in 2011 when it was announced he would sell his Cooley Distillery to American giants Jim Beam inc for €71m. The businessman couldn’t resist getting back into the distilling game and it is full steam ahead for the venture which will be fully operational early next year. See page 2
