OVER 160 people attended a protest on Saturday last over the closure of a creche in mid Louth. It was announced two weeks ago that Scallywags Creche in Togher would close its doors, despite having €450,000 in cash reserves. Speaking to The Dundalk Leader local Fine Gael Councillor and parent Colm Markey said: “There is shock and disappointment amongst parents.” The decision is leading to the loss of 15 jobs and childcare facilities for 40 parents in the community. However, the Togher Community Project Group, which operates the creche, is said to have in the region of €450,000 in cash reserves. Parents of the children attending Scallywags are demanding a U-turn on the decision to close. Continued on Page 2

Rescue mission in Blackrock Two adults and three children were rescued by the Irish Coast Guard on Sunday evening after getting caught by the rising tide. The coast guard was called just after 8pm when the five were quickly trapped by the incoming tide while out walking on the beach. The rescue helicopter arrived on the scene quickly before rescuing the two adults and three children at Blackrock Bay. Thankfully the five were all escorted back to dry land by the Coast Guard helicopter who carried them across the river to the beach at the village side of the river. The Coast Guard posted a warning about the dangers of incoming tides following the incident. ‘An Incoming tide can quickly trap people while out walking on the beach or the coast, check the tides or ask local advice before setting out on a coastal walk.’
