The community of Ardee are in shock after a ten-week old baby girl was critically injured during an incident at an apartment complex on Bridge St. last Monday. The infant who was born on New Year’s Eve was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda but was immediately transferred to the Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin where she is currently fighting for her life. It was reported that the young baby is being treated for a serious head injury and a number of broken bones. Following the incident a man was brought to Drogheda Garda station where he was detained for questioning last Thursday evening. He was later released without charge and Gardaí have said a file has been prepared for the
DPP who will decide if there are to be charges brought against the man. Searches of the apartment where the baby was injured took place and CCTV footage of the area was checked. Local councillors in Ardee spoke of the shock and horror felt by the Ardee community following the incident and offered their support for the family of the toddler. “The whole community is in shock following this incident and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear that a baby is up in Dublin fighting for her life. Obviously we can’t talk about the specifics of the case but suffice to say the whole community are praying for the wee girl to make a full recovery,” stated Cllr Jim Tenanty.
