TRADERS in Bridge Street have joined forces to let the council know that they refuse to be omitted from the proposed €4m upgrade of Clanbrassil Street and St Nicholas Quarter. At the beginning of 2016 it was announced that Dundalk had received €2m which would go towards a regeneration project to rejuvenate an area stretching from ‘Market Square to the big bridge’. The total cost of the project was projected to be in the region of €4m with Louth County Council matching the EU’s contribution of €2m. The scheme originally took in the entirety of Clanbrassil Street, Church Street, Linenhall Street and Bridge Street and included re-paving, road improvements, pedestrian crossings, new lights, an extension of CCTV as well as free wi-fi. At the announcement of the ambitious plans director of services Frank Pentony said the rejuvenation scheme would cover an area from Market Square to the big bridge (over the Castletown River) Full story on page 2
