The GAA community have paid tribute to Naomh Mairtin’s clubman Brendan Reilly who passed away suddenly on Saturday evening shortly after helping his team beat St Mary’s in the Cardinal O’Donnell cup semi-final. The 38-year old suddenly fell ill while driving home from the match and pulled over to the side of the road before calling an ambulance. Tragically he passed away before the ambulance reached Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda. Brendan or ‘Benny’ as he was affectionately known began his GAA career with John Mitchels in Ballybailie just outside Ardee winning a junior league and championship double with the club. He transferred to Naomh Mairtin in 2008 when he moved to Monasterboice with his wife Lisa. The couple had only recently celebrated the birth of their third child.
