The local economy is continuing to move in a positive direction after the recent festive period proved very encouraging for local traders. Paddy Malone from the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has delivered an upbeat update on the local economy following a busy Christmas period for local retailers. According to Paddy the signs over the past three or four years have been positive and he pointed to the huge success of the Chamber’s ‘Shop Local’ initiative as proof that things are picking up. “Listen, of course we are still worried about Britain’s exit from the EU and developments in the North but I think it is fair to say that as a town we are winning the battle. In Dundalk we have had to look after ourselves and fight against the recession ourselves because we were not getting any help from anybody else. For a lot of people the month of January is a time for waving goodbye to the excesses of the Christmas period, and New Year resolutions often include a new healthy lifestyle or an improved diet. The signs are there for all to see including the lycra-clad runners and walkers along the roads and the queues to use the equipment in various gyms.
