There was an unusually high volume of fire related incidents in Dundalk this week with a number of cars burnt out around the area as well as a number of incidents where youths were involved in arson attacks. Cars were burnt out in Newtownbalregan, Cox’s Demesne and Bríd a Crinn. It is unknown if there is any connection between the incidents. The fire brigade were also called out to Blackrock were a gang of youths set a jumper on fire and let it burn on the all-weather pitch. Luckily members of Blackrock Parks Committee were in the area and noticed the fire before it got out of control. €1000 worth of damage was caused in the incident. Last Thursday eighteen houses in Aisling Park were evacuated at 5:10pm after a pipe bomb was thrown from a passing car. Gardaí and the fire brigade were alerted while the army EOD (Explosive Ordinance Department) were called to defuse the device.

Colleen McNally discovered the competition recently by Pet Sitters and decided that her son’s dog was the ideal candidate to take part in this year’s Nose of Tralee. Full Story Page 2.
