On Monday night Sharon Treacy Dunne director of the Cross Border Orchestra received a phone call from the USA which was about to set in motion one of the most hectic and exciting weeks of her life. On the other end of the phone line was a representative from the White House in Washington requesting that the Cross Border Orchestra’s renowned soloist Patricia Treacy play at their St Patrick’s Day reception on March 15 in front of President Obama and First Lady Michelle. De La Salle College are debating champs De La Salle College made history last week when their Junior Irish Debating Team won their first All-Ireland Gael-Linn Debating Competition. In an exceptional debate on the topic of “Is fearr a bheith i do fhear”, “It is better to be a man”, the boys from De La Salle, made an impression on the judges with their arguments against the motion. The final was held on Thursday night last in the Lucan Spa Hotel in Dublin. John Marley, as captain set out the stall for the team with a compelling performance. Full Story on Page 2
