Gardaí in Dundalk are investigating a hit and run incident which occurred on the Dublin Road at approximately 10:20am on Monday morning. Onlookers watched in shock as a black hatchback car mounted the footpath at speed towards a male in his 20s who was trying to run away from the vehicle. The car struck the man on the footpath close to the Malthouse pub before driving away from the scene at speed.
The injured party was knocked down and later brought to the hospital with serious injuries including a broken collar bone. The black hatchback car drove towards Dundalk town centre, breaking the lights at Hill St. Bridge before turning right down the Avenue Road. Investigating Gardai believe that the driver of the car made a deliberate attempt to target the pedestrian and are asking any witnesses to this incident to contact Dundalk Garda Station as soon as possible.
