WE’RE BACK!

Dundalk fans rejoice as promotion to Premier Division secured

VINNIE Leonard’s header to make it 3-0 on the night was the final act of a match that saw Dundalk reclaim their place in the Premier Division following a nightmare year in 2024 which not only saw the Carrick Road side relegated but also come perilously close to going out of existence.

The cheers that emanated from the capacity crowd at full time in Oriel Park was the loudest the old ground had heard in quite a few years. Fans spilled on to the pitch to embrace the players seconds after Leonard’s goal had sealed a 3-0 victory against Finn Harps to secure promotion.

For manager Ciarán Kilduff, it was a dream come true as the rookie manager clinched promotion at the

first time of asking.

The former Dundalk player had asked the supporters to come out and help his team get over the finishing line and the Lilywhite Army didn’t disappoint with the stand sold out for the first time this season and the Shedside Army putting on a magnificent display of banners and flags which added to the occassion.

The noise that greeted the players when they walked out on the pitch was reminiscent of the glory days of old which Kilduff himself had experienced on many a night during his two seasons with the club where he scored seventeen goals in fifty games including two Europa League group match goals against AZ Alkamaar and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Dundalk being added to Living City Initiative a huge boost

DUNDALK Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the addition of Dundalk to the Living City Initiative Scheme under Budget 2026. The

Scheme provides significant tax reliefs to revitalise buildings in town centres through targeted refurbishment and reuse of existing buildings.

Stand For Palestine

Speaking on the announcement, Dundalk Chamber CEO John McGahon said “The Living City initiative was originally established in 2015 and only included Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Waterford and Limerick. In every pre-budget submission that the Chamber has submitted, having Dundalk included in the living city initiative has been one of our key priorities. Our current PRO Paddy Malone has been instrumental in drafting, submitting and lobbying Government over the last decade and more about the need for

Dundalk to be added to the scheme. It is a huge achievement that Government has finally listened to Dundalk Chamber of Commerce and added Dundalk to the Scheme said John. Chamber President Hanna McDonnell said The Living City Initiative demonstrates how targeted tax incentives can transform older buildings into vibrant homes and commercial spaces. Most importantly, this scheme will get people back living above the shop front, bringing more people and activity into our town centre.

Dundalk PRO Paddy Malone said: The Living City Initiative offers a range of generous income tax and capital allowance reliefs to individuals and businesses who undertake qualifying refurbishment or conversion works on properties located within designated Special Regeneration Areas (SRAs).

This scheme is a proven model for urban

regeneration, and it represents an immediate opportunity to reduce tax liabilities, repurpose vacant buildings and drive commercial and residential renewal in Dundalk.

Meanwhile Fianna Fáil TD for Louth Erin McGreehan said that the initiative will ‘breath life into our town centres’.

“This is a major opportunity for Dundalk and Drogheda,” stated Deputy McGreehan.

“The Living City Initiative will help breathe new life into our town centres by supporting the refurbishment of older

homes and commercial buildings, including ‘over the shop’ spaces that can be converted into much-needed housing. It’s a major boost for heritage, housing, and local enterprise.”

Key changes to the scheme include:

Extension of the initiative to 2030

Expansion of eligibility for residential properties from those built before 1915 to 1975

Support for converting “over the shop” premises into residential use

Increased relief for enterprises from €200,000 to €300,000,

with more flexibility on claiming periods.

Deputy Erin McGreehan says “Louth County Council will play a vital role in preparing Special Regeneration Areas for Dundalk and Drogheda. I’ll be working closely with them to ensure this opportunity delivers real benefits for our communities.”

The initiative is expected to support both economic development and urban renewal, helping to address vacancy, improve housing supply, and support small businesses.

Going into the match, Dundalk knew that a win would guarantee them the First Division title and with that promotion. A draw or loss coupled with a Cobh win would see them having to ensure a nervy trip away to Cobh on the final day of the season which was a scenario absolutely no Dundalk supporter wanted to play out. A nervy first half saw Dundalk restricted to long range efforts in the main against a well

drilled Finn Harps defence.

Dundalk’s best chance came midway through the opening half when Aodh Dervin’s inviting cross was smashed against the crossbar from Harry Groome’s header. The biggest cheer of the opening half came as news filtered through that Longford had taken the lead against Cobh early on but it wouldn’t take long for the Cork outfit to equalise to increase Dundalk’s supporters

nerves once more.

It was Finn Harps who finished the first half in the ascendency with veteran Dundalk keeper Peter Cherrie pulling off two smart saves before the break to ensure the home side maintained parity.

The second half wasn’t long in motion when news came through that Longford had re-taken th elead against Cobh which helped reduce anxiety levels amongst the home crowd. Any remaining anxieties were

washed away in teh 54th minute as Conor O’Keefe’s determination out wide on the right saw him dispossess the Finn Harps defender before squaring to in form Gbemi Arubi who slotted home his twelfth goal of the season and his fifth in five games.

Oriel Park erupted as the ball hit the back of the net and those celebrations only got louder five minutes later when Dundalk were awarded a penalty which Daryl Horgan calmly slotted

home. Horgan had a chance to make it 3-0 a few minutes later when Dundalk were awarded a second spot kick but this time his effort was well saved by Piaia in the Finn Harps goal.

A memorable night in Oriel was sealed late on when 17 year old Vinnie Leonard emphatically headed home with the last action of the game to seal a 3-0 victory and a ticket back to the promised land of the Premier Division.

Just over a year earlier many of the same

fans who were celebrating last Friday evening stood outside Oriel Park unsure whether the club would even be in existence with previous owner Brian Ainscough setting a 5pm deadline forinvestors to come in and save the club. Thankfully that deadline was met by a consortium which included local barrister John Temple and one year later the hard work by all involved in the club has been rewarded with promotion back to the top flight.

UNDERSTANDING LIBEL LAWS IN DUNDALK, IRELAND

LIBEL laws in Ireland, including in Dundalk, are governed by the Defamation Act 2009, which consolidates the legal framework for defamation, encompassing both libel (written defamation) and slander (spoken defamation). This legislation aims to balance the protection of individuals’ reputations with the right to freedom of expression, as enshrined in the Irish Constitution.

WHAT CONSTITUTES

DEFAMATION?

Under Irish law, a statement is considered defamatory if it: Damages a person’s reputation: The statement must lower the individual’s esteem in the eyes of right-thinking members of society.

Is false: Truth is a complete defence to a defamation claim.

Is published: The statement must be communicated to at least one person other than the person defamed

In Dundalk, as elsewhere in Ireland, this means that if someone publishes a false statement about another person that harms their reputation, the affected individual may have grounds for a defamation claim.

LEGAL PROCESS AND BURDEN OF PROOF

In defamation cases, the bur-

den of proof initially lies with the plaintiff to establish that the statement is defamatory. Once this is demonstrated, the defendant must prove that the statement was true or falls within a recognised defence. This approach underscores the importance of truth as a defence in defamation matters

DEFENCES TO DEFAMATION

Several defences can be raised in a defamation case: Truth: If the statement is true, it is a complete defence.

Fair Comment: Statements made as honest opinions on matters of public interest.

Absolute Privilege: Applies to statements made in certain contexts, such as parliamentary proceedings.

Qualified Privilege: Protects statements made in specific situations where the communicator has a duty to make the statement and the recipient has a corresponding interest in receiving it.

Innocent Publication: Relevant for publishers who were not the authors and who took reasonable care in publishing the defamatory content

REMEDIES AND DAMAGES

If a defamation claim is successful, the court may award damages to compensate for the harm to the individual’s reputation. The amount varies depending on the case’s specifics, including the se-

verity of the defamation and the defendant’s conduct. Additionally, courts may grant injunctions to prevent further defamatory statements.

LIMITATION PERIODS

Defamation actions in Ireland must be initiated within one year from the date the cause of action accrues. This period can be extended to two years if the plaintiff can show that the delay was due to circumstances beyond their control. It’s important to note that the limitation period applies to each publication, meaning a new cause of action arises with each new publication of the defamatory statement

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

In recent years, there has been ongoing discussion about reform-

ing defamation laws in Ireland. The Defamation (Amendment) Bill 2024 was introduced to address concerns about the balance between protecting reputations and upholding freedom of expression. However, the bill lapsed following the dissolution of the government in November 2024, and it remains to be seen when or if it will be reintroduced

LIBEL IN DUNDALK:

LOCAL CONSIDERATIONS

While the legal framework is national, local contexts like Dundalk can influence how defamation cases are perceived and handled. Dundalk, being a smaller town, may have a close-knit community where reputations are particularly sensitive. In such environments, the impact of defamatory state-

ments can be more pronounced, and individuals may be more inclined to pursue legal action to protect their reputations.

Moreover, local media outlets and community platforms play a significant role in disseminating information. Defamation cases arising from statements published in these forums can have farreaching consequences, affecting not only the individuals involved but also the broader community’s trust and cohesion.

Libel laws in Dundalk operate within the framework established by the Defamation Act 2009, aiming to protect individuals’ reputations while balancing the right to free expression. Understanding the elements of defamation, available defences, and the legal processes involved is crucial for anyone navigating potential defamation issues in Dundalk or elsewhere in Ireland. As discussions about legal reforms continue, staying informed about changes in the law is essential for both individuals and media practitioners.

For residents of Dundalk, navigating libel laws requires both awareness and caution, particularly in an age dominated by social media and instant communication. Individuals should exercise prudence before posting or sharing statements that could be perceived as damaging to someone’s

reputation. Even casual comments online—on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or local community forums—can constitute publication under Irish law and potentially give rise to defamation claims.

Local journalists and media outlets must also remain vigilant. While reporting on matters of public interest is protected under fair comment and qualified privilege, it is essential to verify facts rigorously and ensure that any opinions are clearly presented as such. Mistakes or unchecked rumours can quickly escalate into costly legal proceedings. Additionally, Dundalk’s tightly knit community can amplify the effects of defamatory statements, meaning reputational harm can spread rapidly, affecting personal relationships and business reputations alike.

Seeking legal advice promptly is crucial if someone believes they have been defamed or if they are facing a defamation claim. Early intervention can often lead to resolution through retractions, apologies, or settlements before matters reach the courts. Understanding these practical considerations helps residents and media navigate the complexities of libel law while respecting both legal obligations and community standards.

Restricted car parking at Dundalk Train Station

COMMUTERS

us-

ing Clarke station in Dundalk will face even more pressure for car parking spaces after Irish Rail revealed it is restricting parking at part of the site from Monday, Louth TD Ruairí Ó Murchú has said. Issues arose recently at a service road lo-

cated on the Ardee Road behind Dundalk Garda station where commuters park when a bus, needed for transfers because of Storm Amy, was unable to get past the parked cars to Clarke station.

Deputy Ó Murchú said he was contacted by station customers

at the end of last week when they returned to their cars at the Ardee Road to find a note telling them that from Monday October 13, they would no longer be able to park there and would be clamped if they did so.

The Sinn Féin TD wrote to Irish Rail and on Sunday received a response which confirmed the closure of the site, where dozens of cars park every day.

In the email, he questioned the rationale behind the restriction of parking, and asked for additional spaces to be provided.

He wrote: “With the Enterprise running every hour now and higher demand for the excellent services from Dundalk to Dublin and Belfast, many people

are parking at the station and rightly using the trains.

“Most days, all the car parks are full of commuters heading in both directions. This has come as a shock to many, particularly because of the fact that these notes were on the windscreens, with no

further directions to commuters issued at the station itself or on the platforms.

“A couple of days’ notice is not enough for those who work in Dublin or Belfast a couple of days a week and would not have seen these if they were not there today”.

Perfect start at Mondello for speedy Logan

DUNDALK racing driver (16) Logan Hoey got his 2025/26 Irish Junior Rallycross championship off to the perfect start at Mondello Park last weekend. Double reigning champion Logan is aiming to be the first driver to win 3 junior rallycross titles in a row. On Saturday in round 1 Logan took 4 wins and 2 seconds, on his way to winning the final.

In response, Irish Rail said: “I can confirm that we have arranged to restrict parking in this area. It is incorrect to describe the area as an overflow car park – it is an access road to the station, and the extent of parking there has created safety issues in access for emergency services vehicles, and for access for buses.

“It is correct that the station car park has become busier arising from the success of the improved service, including hourly Belfast services. However, I hope you will understand that we must be in a position to maintain safe and clear access for emergency service vehicles such as fire brigade and ambulance, and for bus services.

“As a result, doubleyellow lines have been put in place, and those parking illegally in this area will be subject to

clamping, as detailed on the notices.

“We do believe there is the potential to provide some additional spaces in the main car park by removing the middle ‘island’ where there are some grass verges and shrubbery, and we will examine this as a matter of urgency. However, we are not in a position to permit parking on the access roadway due to the safety access issues described above.

“During week commencing 13th October, our focus will be on ensuring awareness of this amongst customers through notices, and through additional signage, and we have instructed APCOA who manage our car parking including clamping in all of our station car parks to commence clamping for illegal parking in the area from Monday 20th October”.

For round 2 on Sunday, Logan took a clean sweep of 6 wins before winning the final one again to take an early lead in the championship. For this coming weekend Logan turns his focus to circuit racing at Mondello Park in the final 2 rounds of the ICCR Junior Mini championship, where he can take a top 3 finish in this year’s championship. Logan Hoey makes speedy start to defence of his title.

Friends of the Earth Dundalk

host conversation on housing and climate change

FRIENDS of the Earth Dundalk recently hosted a conversation on Housing and Climate in the Sports Centre Muirhevnamore.

Maria Luchessi facilitated the conversation which saw contributions from policy experts such as Lorcan Sirr, Carol Bonner of CATU (Community Action Tenants Union) and Sinn Finn councillor Kevin Meenan.

In a statement Friends of the Earth said that government policy on housing now seems to bow to the needs of developers and the construction industry rather than those looking to be housed.

“In the course of presentation and discussion it became apparent that housing is now seen as a commodity rather than recognised primarily as a ‘home’. While the state has consistently had a housing crisis, it still managed until recent decades to build homes despite its limited wealth at the time. Speakers felt that housing policy now mirrors the policy and needs of developers and the construction industry.

“We noted the record numbers of homeless and the record number of children and families growing up in emergency accommodation.

Top: Fiona Henry and Patricia Dunne; Right: Lorcan Sirr and Kevin Meenan.

There was a recognition that homes are a human right and that housing policy needs to ensure that housing promotes dignity, respect and is fit for the climate changes we all see. “ The event also heard of the experience of older people, the impact of energy poverty and the work of Peter Carroll of BOLD Climate Action, Adrienne McCann of Age Friendly Homes in helping people access necessary funding for retrofitting.

“It was felt that urgent action is needed to address climate change with large scale retrofitting of localities needed. The conversation recognised that energy poverty is not isolated and that it is linked to material poverty. Lack of community, lack of trust, lack of safety were also seen as instances of poverty created by housing policies that do not see well-being and creating places where people can thrive as important.

“Policy needs to shift

to promote a just transition by increasing access to retrofitting and making this easy for home dwellers to do. Participants also felt that more power, funding and accountability needed to be with local authorities,” concluded the statement.

The next Climate Conversation hosted by Friends of the Earth will be on water. The group meets frequently and welcomes new members at any time. Follow them on Instagram or email foedundalk@gmail.com.

Susan McGovern set to launch third installment of ‘The She Team’

THE latest children’s book by retired teacher, Susan McGovern will be launched on Tuesday 21 October at 6pm in Roe River Books, Clanbrassil Street. Called The She Team Plus One, it is the third in a trilogy of She Team books, the first two being The She Team, followed by The She Team Does Lockdown.

The She Team is so called because it consists of four female cats Smig, Trig, Ebi and Roisin and a female dog, Mags, who come together and form a team because they have all been abused in various ways by different people and they want to get back at these people and prevent them hurting other animals.

The Plus One in the latest book is Smokie, the most recent addition to

the McGovern menagerie. Like all the other cats, Smokie is a female and is quite a character. All three books of the trilogy are very authentic because the characters of all six animals are based on past or current family pets who are all rescue animals and the three main human characters, Diarmuid, Eoghan and Éanna are based on Susan’s three grandsons of the same names.

The animals in the three books do differ from the real animals in one way - they each have a superpower which helps them to carry out the work of the She Team. For example, Mags, the dog, can understand what humans and other creatures are saying when she puts her paw up to her left ear and she can be understood

Make School Drop-Offs Safer and Healthier with Park ‘n’ Stride

LOUTH County Council, in collaboration with 5th Class pupils from Réalt Na Mara N.S in Dundalk, An Garda Síochána, and the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, is inviting parents and students to take a fresh look at how they travel to and from school and to consider registering for a Park ‘n’ Stride Permit. This Park ‘n’ Stride initiative offers FREE parking for a limited time at designated car parks, allowing students to walk the final leg of their journey to or from school.Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council explains:

“We are all familiar with the increased levels of traffic on the roads following the return of schools after the summer break. Park ‘n’ Stride allows pupils travelling in cars to be dropped close to the school to complete the remainder of the journey on foot. It’s an alternative option for those who cannot change their travel patterns entirely but who want to avoid the traffic bottlenecks in the vicinity of the school gate.”

Phil McCaul, Principal

Park and Stride at Realt na Mara.

of Réalt Na Mara National School in Dundalk, welcomed the Park ‘n’ Stride initiative, saying:

“Children travelling to school by car can mean increased congestion in the mornings and afternoons. Alternative options such as Park ‘n’ Stride, carpooling, walking or cycling together with public transport are all excellent ways of incorporating low carbon transport and exercise into our daily commutes and allows us all to enjoy cleaner air.”

Participants must dis-

play the Park ‘n’ Stride permit inside the front windscreen of their vehicle to avail of 60 minutes of free parking at any of the 14 participating car parks in the morning, between 8:30am and 9:30am, and again in the afternoon, between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

Look out for the blue Park ‘n’ Stride logo at participating car parks. Participating car parks include: McEntee Avenue Cark Park, Rogers Car Park (Rampart Road), Dundalk Library, Rampart

Road Long Term Car Park, Meadow Grove Car Park, Aura Leisure, St Joseph’s Redemptorist Car Park, Linenhall Street Car Park, The Longwalk Long Stay Car Park, Clanbrassil Centre Car Park, Longwalk Shopping Centre, Tesco Extra Car Park and Lidl Car Parks (Avenue Road and St Helena’s Terrace stores).

Busy Weekend for North East Runners AC

IT was a busy and emotional weekend for North East Runners AC, beginning with a special event in partnership with Dundalk parkrun on Saturday, 11th October, at the DKIT pitches.

This particular parkrun was dedicated to the O’Connor family, who were much-loved regulars — running, walking, and volunteering week after week. A total of 221 participants took part, supported by a large team of volunteers from both Dundalk parkrun and North East Runners AC. After the run, everyone gathered to enjoy a generous spread of treats, tea, and coffee.

Mark O’Connor’s impressive medal collection was proudly displayed, along with family photos placed around the course for runners and walkers to admire as they made their way around the 5km track.

North East Runners AC Chairman Rory Mulholland delivered heartfelt words capturing the impact Mark had on all who knew him. Rory spoke fondly of Mark’s devotion to his family and his simple post-run routines — such as collecting a Friday evening takeaway after his weekly “figure of 8” run at the college, a route familiar to so many in the club.

“Mark was a popular running companion for many,” Rory said, “always genuinely interested in how everyone’s training was going.” He encouraged everyone to dedicate their run to Louise, Evan, and Mark, celebrating their kindness, joy, and the many happy memories they brought to the community.

On Sunday, the focus shifted to Darver, where all Louth Athletics clubs gathered for the second cross country event of the winter season.

North East Runners AC fielded strong teams in the Novice races — a 3km course for the women and

6km for the men.

The women’s race was first to go, with North East Runners targeting team silverware. Leading the charge were Zoe Nevin and newcomer Alanna Rice, both showing great strength across the challenging course. Close behind came Barbara Muckian and Patricia Mulholland, keeping the team well placed in the standings.

At the front of the field, Molly Rath (Dunleer AC) took gold, followed by Annie McGuinness (Glenmore AC) and Sophie Kinsella (Drogheda & District) in silver and bronze.

In the end, it was debutant Jacinta McNally, the fifth NER athlete home, who made the decisive difference — holding off two Dunleer runners to secure team gold for North East Runners by a single point.

North East Runners AC claimed the Louth Novice title for 2025, made all the sweeter by such a narrow and hard-fought victory.

Afterwards, the men’s team of Sodiq Oyewole, Fergal O’Callaghan, Patrick Kieran, and Shane Fennell took to the 6km course.

Sodiq went out strongly with the leaders, but Matthew Fitzpatrick (Dunleer AC) proved unbeatable, claiming first place. The battle for silver was intense, with Fergal O’Callaghan showing tremendous determination to pull away from Darren Carrie (Dunleer AC) and finish second in his first-ever cross country race.

Solid performances from Patrick Kieran (10th), Sodiq Oyewole (11th), and Shane Fennell (22nd) secured second place for North East Runners in the team standings. All eyes now turn to the Dublin City Marathon at the end of the month. For anyone interested in joining, training with North East Runners AC continues on Tuesday evenings, meeting in St. Helena’s Park at 6:15pm for beginners and 7:00pm for advanced runners.

Say this prayer for three days. Promise publication and favours will be granted. (Never known to fail). E.M.

Sony acquire majority stake in StatSports

STATSPORTS, the Newry based company that was founded by Dundalk man Alan Clarke and Bellurgan native Sean O’Connor have struck a lucrative deal with Japanese mass media giants Sony, who have acquired a majority stake in the company. StatSports has grown into a world leader in performance tracking systems and analysis, providing data to top-tier soccer clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City , as well as Juventus (Italy), and international rugby teams, including New Zealand and South Africa. The company which was formed in 2008, also signed a ground-breaking £1billion deal to partner with the U.S. Soccer Federation back in 2018.

The acquisition allows Sony to add STATSports’ state-of-the-art athlete tracking technologies and performance analysis solutions to its existing array of Sports technology solutions.

This paves the way for a comprehensive optical and wearable tracking solution for teams and clubs across major sports, creating new opportunities for Sony’s sports businesses to leverage sports data in the performance analysis space, as well as to expand into new markets.

Rufus Hack, CEO of Hawk-Eye, Pulselive, Beyond Sports and Ki-

naTrax stated: “This acquisition is a powerful step in our journey to build the ultimate sports data and analytics engine, by integrating STATSports’ state-of-the-art wearable technology with our existing optical solutions. This opens up a path for new applications in performance analysis, as well as officiating, and fan engagement, which enables us to deliver a more complete and valuable solution to our partners and the entire sports community.”

Alan Clarke, CEO and Co-Founder of STATSports said: “This is a landmark moment for STATSports. Since 2008, our mission has been to help teams and athletes reach their full potential through performance monitoring technology. Partnering with Sony allows us to accelerate that mission by integrating our wearable technology with Sony’s world-leading solutions. Together, we can set new standards in performance analysis, athlete development, and injury prevention, while also offering audiences new ways to engage with their favourite sports teams.”

GAA President visits Dundalk Young Irelands

LAST Monday saw Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns, visit Dundalk Young Irelands GFC as members and supporters welcomed the GAA president. The visit was a proud occasion for the club who showcased their facilities, history, and ongoing development plans to the former Armagh player.

It’s an exciting time in Dundalk Young Ireland’s history having recently announced their 2025-2030 Strategic Development Plan. The club has experienced phenomenal growth in recent years — now with over 400 registered players and a thriving community of more than 1,500 members, volunteers, and supporters.

A major highlight has been the rise of Ladies Football, with teams at every age level. This year, the club’s U14 ladies were crowned league champions, and several of their players are involved in Louth’s underage development squads.

The plan focuses on: Securing an additional playing pitch. Improving parking and access. Continuing to grow as a vibrant, inclusive club.

Week One of Dundalk Darts League

WEEK 1 of the Heineken sponsored Dundalk and District Dart League saw 22 teams put their toes to the oche.

A few new teams have entered the league this season along with a few returning teams in The Avenue Inn & Courtney’s.

Bodhran Hawks were away to Corbetts Craicheads, this was going to be an interesting fixture with Corbetts Craicheads having most of their team from last season while The Hawks made a number of interesting post-season signings.

Stephen Smith put the Hawks 1 up before Colin Taaffe, playing in his 1st league game, won his game to put them 2 up, further wins for Ian Rroney, Darren Lulow, Greg Rosada & Ryan Murtagh left the visitors leaving Seatown with the points and a 6-0 win.

Continuing in the same form as last season were Big House Eagles, who had a 6-0 win away to Commercial Classics,Conor McArdle had a 156 checkout and also got player of the match for his team.

In Division 2, The Punters visited the Northend to play the Cobras.

Patrick Taaffe (player of the match for the hosts) put the hosts 1 up before Martin Lee leveled things up for the visitors.

Frankie Mc Donnell put the hosts 2-1 up before Gareth Woods levelled things up again.

Jordan McInerney (player of the match for the visitors) won the next to put the visitors 3-2 up before Marianne Gartland won the last for a share of the points for her husband Mickeys team.

“Jinx Lennon’s tremendously titled new album is mightily comparable to Dylan Thomas’s ‘Under Milk Wood’ with its epic ambition, magnificent wordplay and the erudite eye of its omniscient narrator. The singer’s capacity for channelling a multitude of characters into bitesized chunks is marvellous, and a patchwork of citizenry from his hometown of Dundalk is wonderfully depicted here. Flann O’Brien, John Cooper Clarke and Mark E. Smith usually enter the conversation when discussing Jinx Lennon, and they’re definitive touchstones on this record”.
