By Paul Byrne AS the final whistle blew, the thousands of Louth fans around Croke Park saluted the Louth GAA team, applauding them for their efforts which had seen Gavin Devlin’s team reach heights that not too many Louth teams had reached before them. Indeed this was the County’s first All-Ireland semi-final since that often talked about magical Sunday in September 69 years previously.

On the day, Mayo proved just too strong for a Louth team who were unable to reach the heights of previous days out this summer. However, walking around Dundalk, the day before the match, travelling up in cars and trains and of course witnessing the sea of red all around Croke Park it was clear that this team

had caught the imagination of young and old as they helped turn the County red with bunting, banners and flags.

Louth GAA Chairman Sean McClean was one of those Louth supporters in Croke Park on Saturday and according to the Hunterstown clubman he felt an enormous sense of pride as he looked around Croke Park to see so many red shirts and flags around the famous old stadium.

“The support we have received not only on Saturday but all year was absolutely fantastic. Driving around and seeing all the bunting, flags and banners was a joy to behold. And for me I was particularly pleased to see so many young kids in Louth jerseys. I’d never seen so many youngsters with Louth jersey’s before and that kind of shows you how this team have grabbed the public’s imagination.

“Getting to the semifinal was what everybody in Louth GAA probably dreamed about at the start of the year. It’s a long tough road to get to this stage and this team got there thanks to their never say die spirit.

Those games against Dublin, Armagh and Monaghan in particular will live long in the memory. People may say ‘Oh you got lucky against Armagh in the final minute’ but it was the previous 69 minutes of hard work that gave them that opportunity to win it at the death.

“This is a team that has been building and build-

It took us three finals before we won Leinster and from that Leinster win I think the confidence levels have just grown and grown and Gavin Devlin has given the boys every chance to grow and improve. This year was a massive step forward and we have to keep building on that. The structures are in place and we have some fantastic young players coming through thanks to the magnificent work being done at club level around the county.

“We’ve seen the likes of Tadhg McDonnell, Ciaran Keenan, James Maguire and plenty more integrated into the squad from underage teams and there are plenty more to follow them. We are doing well at underage level and that can only be a good thing for our Senior squad going forward.

“We will also have a place to call home in just over a year’s time and that will be hugely important. We have been very grateful for the warm welcome we received in Inniskeen in recent years but to have a place of our

Louth’s semi-final run was masterminded by Sean’s fellow Tyrone native Gavin Devlin and when asked if there was a danger of Mickey Harte’s former right hand man getting poached during the off-season, McClean laughs while brushing away any suggestion of that happening.

“Gavin sees us as a work in progress and I do believe he thinks that he is managing one of the most talented teams in the coun-

try. I believe he feels he has unfinished business and that there is more to come.

Gavin and the players were bitterly disappointed on the pitch after the game against Mayo but they will lift themselves and they will look back on pride on their achievements this year.

“They will come back and they will give our wonderful supporters many more wonderful memories. Stick with this team. They have a wonderful hunger and great drive and they will be giving it their all to build on this next season,” added Sean.

AN Taisce is calling upon the Minister for Heritage, Christopher O’Sullivan T.D., to immediately grant ‘Special Protection’ status to the Dún Dealgan, Castletown monuments and historic landscape, and enhance their protection from a proposed Large-Scale Residential Development of over 1,000 units in Dún Dealgan, Castletown, Co. Louth.

Grandspect Ltd applied last November for a ten-year planning permission to build 1,058 homes on an almost 39 hectare site close to Cuchulainn’s Castle beside the Castletown Road. The plan would allow for 765 houses, 150 duplexes and 143 apartments. Louth County Council received 240 submissions about the planning application and a decision is due on Monday 22 July.

As proposed, the buffer zones between the development site and monuments would be inadequate to preserve their setting and character, which, An Taisce insist would be of detriment to the vulnerable archaeological heritage nearby.

“Dún Dealgan is the popular name of a Motte-andBailey located at Castletown to the west/northwest of

Dundalk. This Norman fortress would have been the operational base of Bertram III de Verdun. The evidence indicates that the fortification was built on top of an earlier Gaelic-Irish dwellingplace, probably that of a local chieftain. It was a Norman practice to establish themselves at the base of the former local ruler. The circular steep-sided mound (the Motte) reaches a height of 10m. It would have had a wooden fort on top. The attached enclosure (the Bailey) was originally augmented by a second larger

enclosed area to the east.

“In mythology, the location is known as the birthplace of the legendary Cú Chulainn. The epic saga of the Táin Bó Cúailgne has long been associated with the general area (the ancient kingdom of Conaille Muirtheimne). (Dún) ‘Delga’ features in the saga as Cú Chulainn’s abode. There is a Standing Stone adjacent to the castle site known as ‘Lia Lingadon’ (who tended the cows of Dictoire (Deichtine), the mother of Cú Chulainn).

The castellated remains on top of the mound may be of

late date, but their presence adds to the visual impression of the site. Folklore colourfully associates the ruins to a pirate named Byrne.

“The proximity of the monuments to the development indicates how vulnerable the historic landscape’s hidden assets would be to a large-scale intrusion. A geophysical survey of the entire area under threat would illuminate this factor. The excavation of specified individual structures would only benefit the historic landscape if they were subsequently preserved-in-situ. Inversely, their removal could not be deemed as beneficial to the historic environment.

“The Historic and Archaeological Heritage and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023 provides for the protection of these sites. Under this crucial piece of legislation, the Minister is empowered to grant ‘Special Protection’ to those monuments that qualify on the grounds of ‘interest, character, integrity, (and) community or amenity value’. The monument would be judged on its ‘archaeological, architectural, or other historic heritage, taking into account whether the monument is ‘of special

or particular interest, character, integrity, community or amenity value, whether at a local, national, or international level’.

“Clearly, Dún Dealgan and its environment fits the description perfectly. Therefore, this ‘Special Protection’ category, as contained in the Act, can provide the monuments under discussion with an enhanced legal status, which can, in turn, be used to safeguard said monuments against any works of a perceived negative nature.

Furthermore, works cannot be carried out within the immediate environs of a monument with ‘Special Protection’ unless the developer has obtained the relevant licence. In short, if you have not been granted the relevant licence by the relevant Minister, you cannot proceed with the works.

“Therefore, we are calling on the Minister to increasingly invoke these special protection powers to secure the future of Ireland’s precious historic monuments in tandem with housing delivery, which are of substantial importance to our culture, history, heritage and mythology,” read the statement from An Taisce.

Safety works planned at Hill Street Bridge Didn’t realise he wasn’t insured amid questions over long-term future

CLLR Maeve Yore (Ind) has asked Louth County Council for clarity on whether planned works at Hill Street Bridge in Dundalk, owned

by Iarnród Eireann and maintained by the council, will have to be revisited if longer-term proposals for the area change if the bridge needs to be removed when funding becomes available.

At the June Louth County Council meeting, Cllr Yore told the meeting that everybody who has contacted her wants the bridge removed “and money not wasted from repairing it”.

At the same meeting, Cllr Marianne Butler (GP) agreed, saying, “I would very much like to see that bridge gone as well. It’s going to happen one day, and we’re just putting it off, it’s going to be more expensive.”

The comments came after proposed traffic calming and safety improvement works for the

Cllr Maeve Yore.

R132 Dublin Road, Hill Street Bridge and Long Avenue junction area were the subject of public consultation through Louth County Council’s consultation portal.

Louth County Council has said the project is intended to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and traffic management along the R132 Dublin Road corridor, and the proposed measures would provide safer pedestrian facilities, including upgraded crossing points, while also helping to manage vehi-

cle speeds and improve accessibility for all road users, particularly those with reduced mobility.

The scheme is confined to the existing road, verge and footpath footprint and includes full road resurfacing between Stapleton Place and Crossan’s Filling Station, new road markings, upgraded kerbing, ramped access points and resurfacing of existing footpaths.

The works also include improvements to bus stop infrastructure, a new raised-table pedestrian crossing at Ladywell Square, a new traffic signal system at the Long Avenue/Hill Street junction, and resurfacing and footpath improvement works on the R172 Avenue Road/ Long Avenue area, extending to the pedestrian crossing east of the Connolly Field site.

However, Cllr Yore questioned whether funding could be sourced for the removal of the bridge and, if not, whether the works now

being planned would benefit any future removal project rather than result in money being spent twice.

Louth County Council has stated there are currently no plans to remove or replace the bridge, and that no proposals relating to its removal are being considered as part of the current scheme.

It added that Iarnród Éireann has been consulted throughout the development of the proposed scheme and that agreement is in place to facilitate works on the bridge as part of the project. These works include resurfacing, footpath improvements and ducting.

The longer-term position is complicated by the fact that removal of Hill Street Bridge appears in planning and transport documents for Dundalk. The adopted Dundalk Local Area Plan lists the removal of Hill Street Bridge and a new junction layout with Millennium

Road as a proposed link road/transport corridor, while the Dundalk Local Transport Plan describes the related option as involving demolition of the existing rail bridge, reconstruction of the existing carriageway and new junction works.

Planning records also show the issue has arisen before. An An Bord Pleanála inspector’s report on a later Connolly Field application recorded that an earlier permission connected with the former Dundalk Shopping Centre/ Tesco centre facilitated the removal of Hill Street Bridge and its replacement with an atgrade junction, but that the Hill Street works had not taken place.

In relation to the current works, the council said they are needed to address existing infrastructure that requires upgrade and repair, pointing to deteriorated sections of the road surface and footpath requiring intervention so

they remain safe and accessible for all users.

The local authority added the traffic signal infrastructure at Hill Street bridge needs to be upgraded because the existing system has been experiencing recurring faults and a new signal system would improve the flow of traffic and reliability, providing a safer crossing facility for pedestrians.

Louth County Council’s June Chief Executive’s Report separately recorded traffic light repairs at Hill Street Bridge “numerous times.”

For now, the council’s position is that the current scheme is not a bridge-removal project.

“As there are currently no proposals to remove the bridge, the works represent a necessary investment in maintaining and improving the existing transport infrastructure for the benefit of all road users,” the council said.

Iarnród Eireann has been contacted for comment.

A MAN who was convicted of driving without insurance was given the chance to seek legal advice before his case is finalised at Dundalk District Court.

Samson Achioya of Gort Uaine, Clogherhead, Co Louth, pleaded guilty to the offence at Callystown, Clogherhead on November 2nd, 2025. The court was told that the defendant had a previous conviction for driving without insurance on October 18th, 2025.

The 25-year-old defendant told Judge Nicola Andrews that he didn’t realise he wasn’t insured at the time of the second offence.

“I genuinely thought I was insured on this occasion as I had previously been a named driver on my brother’s car. I have just finished my Masters and I am trying to get a job in architecture, while currently working as a carer. I didn’t know I wasn’t insured”, he stated.

Court Presenter Sgt Richie Brown pointed out that the two incidents only happened two weeks apart.

Judge Andrews imposed a €301 fine but given the current industrial action by solicitors, she adjourned the case to allow the defendant seek legal advice and representation in court.

“I will put the case back to December 16th for finalisation. You are looking at a disqualification and also at risk of a prison sentence – which I am not minded to impose. However, you need to speak to a solicitor”, she stated.

Couple’s climb for Emma raises over €2,200

ALMOST two years ago Dundalk couple Rory and Marie Dougan received the news every parent dreads. Their beautiful daughter Emma had died. She was at home and had just come out of the bathroom when she collapsed. Emma had a congenital heart issue and was just 36 when she died in September 2024. Denis Fitzgerald a friend of Rory and Marie says that the couple where understandably in a dark place after their daughter’s death and he felt compelled to try and lift their spirits in any way he could.

“I was talking to Rory and Marie and they were beyond devastated. They were in a dark abyss and I just wanted to be there for Rory and Marie Dougan with a framed T-Shirt which remembers their daughter Emma Dougan them. We had many talks and I think that did them good. I who tragically passed away almost two years ago. wanted to do something to raise their spirits and so myself and my wife Margaret decided to try and raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation. We made the decision to climb Apparition Hill in Medjugorje. Four years ago if you mentioned religion to me I’d have rolled on the ground laughing but in recent years I have found God and for me Medjugorje is a very special place. I am now the gardener in St Nicholas’ Church in Bridge St. and religion is very important to me.

“It’s a steep climb up Apparition Hill and usually takes about half an hour or so. Myself and Margaret took our time going up and took everything in and thought of Emma and her family every step of the way. It was emotional but we found strength and felt at peace when we reached the top and were able to take in the spectacular views and peacefulness at the top.

“This idea was only conceived two weeks ago so to have raised €2200 for the Irish Heart Foundation is fantastic and I know Rory and Marie were very happy we

did it in honour of their daughter and to hear Rory said it gave them a wee lift meant everything to me,” stated Dennis. Emma was a wonderful girl. Full of goodness and she had this special aura about her.

“We have to thank Proper for hosting our cheque handover to the Irish Heart Foundation and the Dundalk Credit Union for donating €200 to our cause,” he added.

Dennis’s wife Margaret echoed those sentiments stating that she wanted to thank everybody who donated to the fundraiser.

“People are so kind. It was such a special feeling when we got to the top of Apparition Hill.

We both knew we were doing the climb for Emma and we reached the top there was just a peacefulness and calm that washed over us. We’ve been going to Medjugorje for the past four years and it truly is a special place,” stated Margaret.

Emma’s father Rory thanked both Dennis and Margaret for their kind gesture and said he hoped the money raised for the Irish Heart Foundation might help somebody and prevent another family going through what they have.

“I want to thank both Dinny and Margaret for their wonderful gesture. They’ve raised over €2000 for the Irish Foundation and they are two of many people who have been a great help to us since Emma passed. I want to thank Emma’s boyfriend Liam Bond who raised over €600 as well. Also Colin and Geraldine here in Proper who have been very supportive.

“Across the road Adrienne Callan in Uisce Beatha has also raised money in the pub and I have to say the people in Dundalk are fantastic at helping each other out. I hope some of the money

raised will be of great benefit to the Irish Heart Foundation and that another family won’t go through what myself and Marie have gone through over the last couple of years,” stated Rory.

Carmel Finnegan a volunteer for the Irish Heart Foundation was on hand to represent the charity and said the organisation were delighted to have received the generous donation.

“I’ve been a volunteer with the Irish Heart Foundation for about 8 years. Nine years ago I gave birth to my first child Senan and I was only home a couple of days when I began to feel unwell. My blood pressure was through the roof and I was struggling to breathe.

I was brought to the Lourdes and after a lot of treatment and tests I was diagnosed with heart failure.

“I suppose I represent the Irish Heart Foundation in a way to put a light on living well with heart problems. I run 5ks and have done the Women’s Mini Marathon to fundraise for better services. I’m part of the IHF’s Patient Champion Programme and that programme was developed by the Irish Heart Foundation to help train and support heart and stroke patients across Ireland on the most effective ways to make real and positive change happen.

The programme is free of charge and delivered online and is accessible to patients with a heart or stroke diagnosis throughout Ireland.

“People think that heart disease is an old person’s disease but that’s not true. I have been advocating for the government to pledge to support groups like the Irish Heart Foundation. It is fantastic to receive money like we have today through Margaret and Dennis’s fundraiser but the government need to step up as well to help support patient support services,” she added.

National junior title for talented Rian McCrystal BELLURGAN’S Rian McCrystal (Team Ireland) picked up the Junior Tour of Ireland after he held his nerve to see off Lucas Lilistone by just three seconds. Rian is the son of Bryan McCrystal, a renowned Triathlete and cyclist as well as playing with Leeds Utd when he was a teenager. Bryan finished fourth in the

National Road Race in 2014 and previously finished second on a Stage of the famous Rás Tailteann.

It’s fair to say cycling is in Rian’s blood with his aunt Eve McCrystal, a multiple medallist on the world stage as a sighted pilot for blind cyclist Katie-George Dunleavy as well as a national champion having

won two titles at the Irish National Cycling Championships.

According to Bryan, Rian entered the Junior Tour of Ireland looking to gain some experience and maybe picking up a stage win if he got a bit of luck.

The 17 year old Marist student defied all expectations however as he saw off a host of more experienced

challengers to win the six stage race which ended on Sunday in Clare.

“Going into the race we certainly were not thinking about winning the race. Rian is still a baby in terms of competing and he’s a first year junior so would have been one of the least experienced risers in the race. This is his learning year so to win the race is kind of incredible,” explained Bryan.

“He’s a talented rider and we were hopeful that maybe he could pick up a stage win somewhere along the way but he actually managed to win two stages and when he took the yellow jersey after winning stage 3 we began to think that maybe he could be in contention for the overall win.

“The whole family were there to see him win it on Sunday and we were obviously very proud of him. He handled the pressure and the occasion very well and showed an awful lot of maturity to get it done.

“Rian probably started racing when he was 12 and his first race was I think the Peter Bidwell Memorial race in Drogheda.

He loves most sports and has played soccer, gaelic and the whole lot down through the years. 15 or 16 is probably the age where you get to know what you like best and he chose cycling. He loves it and he decided to commit to the sport.

“He is currently riding with a Belgium team called Cannibal B Victorious and he has a two year contract with them. I don’t think we’d be looking too far ahead at this stage but he loves doing this and he is on the right path and he’s winning the right races to suggest he could make a go of it.

“Strangely, his preparation for the Junior Tour of Ireland was not very good as had a fall and broke his collar bone in April. He was on the back foot a bit and missed a lot of training because of his injury. Despite that he still managed to get it done on Sunday and he is delighted with himself as we all are,” stated Bryan.

Man behaving in abusive and erratic manner has case dismissed following charity donation A Dundalk man who pleaded guilty to public order charges had the case dismissed at Dundalk District Court after agreeing to make a donation to charity.

Sean Ward of Oldbridge, Toberona, pleaded guilty to two offences arising out of an incident at Oldbridge on July 18th, 2025.

The court heard that Gardai were called to an incident at Oldbridge where they spoke to the defendant’s father, who said that his son was behaving in an abusive and erratic manner. When Gardai approached the defendant outside, he was intoxicated and abusive.

Solicitor Paula Tiernan stated that her client had €100 to donate to charity which Judge Nicola Andrews accepted and dismissed the case.

Archbishop Martin dedicates new Local artist Olive Eustace to open seminary church in Dundalk and solo exhibition “Daydreamers” inaugurates extension at Dundalk’s Basement Gallery

LAST Sunday Archbishop Eamon Martin dedicated the new seminary church at the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary in Dundalk, and also marked the inauguration of the new seminary extension.

The Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary is located in the heart of Dundalk on De La Salle Terrace. The seminary was established in 2012 as an initiative of the Archdiocese of Armagh to form priests for the New Evangelization. The priests formed in the seminary come from families of the neo-catechumenal way, and serve both in the Archdiocese of Armagh and also in missionary placements assigned by the Archbishop.

To date, eleven priests have been ordained and incardinated in the Archdiocese from the Dundalk seminary. They receive their human, pastoral and spiritual formation in Dundalk and their academic formation in

Four years ago, in February 2022, Archbishop Eamon Martin laid and blessed the foundation stone for the extension of Redemptoris Archdiocesan Mater Seminary in Dundalk. This work is now complete Philosophy and Theology at Saint Patrick’s Pontifical University at Maynooth. During their formation the students avail of missionary placements in various parts of the world and in parishes of the archdiocese.

The original building of the seminary was renovated and officially opened in November 2016. In February 2022, the foundation stone was laid for the new extension works for the housing and

formation of seminarians, and for the mission of the seminary itself in hosting and welcoming visitors. Of the eleven priests formed and ordained from 2012 to 2026, ten were ordained over the last five years. Currently there are fifteen seminarians in formation, and the new buildings capacity of the seminary can provide accommodation for up to eighteen.

In his homily, Archbishop Martin stated

that the seminary project represented a hugely significant moment in the life of the Archdiocese of Armagh. He spoke of the fifteen years of hard work involved in getting to this point and how that labour was now bearing fruit.

The Archbishop also thanked the seminary Rector, Father Giuseppe Pollio, who has led the development, of the extension, and also the entire seminary project since the beginning.

FIGURATIVE painter Olive Eustace will open her new solo exhibition, “Daydreamers,” at the Basement Gallery in An Táin Arts Centre, Crowe Street, Dundalk, with a public opening reception on Wednesday, 22nd July at 7pm.

The exhibition runs from 23rd July to 29th August, and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.

About the artist Olive Eustace grew up in Drogheda, Co. Louth, where she developed an interest in art from a young age.

She attended Greenhills Girls’ School in the 1970s, where art

teacher Phil McCarten helped her put together the portfolio that won her a place at Limerick School of Art and Design, where she completed a Diploma in Fine Art Painting. She went on to complete a Diploma in Teaching Art and Design at the National College of Art and Design, and taught for two years at St Fintan’s, Sutton, before taking up a full-time post at Coláiste Rís, where she spent the rest of her teaching career under principal Frank Cooney and viceprincipal Noel Lennon, working alongside what she describes as “a great bunch of staff and pupils.”

Public Order Laws: What Can Get You Arrested on a Night Out?

By Darren Crawley WITH the recent spell of warm weather bringing more people out to Dundalk’s pubs, beer gardens and restaurants, many will be making the most of the longer evenings over the coming weeks.

Whether it’s enjoying a drink with friends, attending a local event or simply socialising in the town centre, the vast majority of nights out pass without incident.

However, alcohol, large crowds and late-night emotions can sometimes lead to situations where people unexpectedly find themselves on the wrong side of Ireland’s public order laws. What begins as an argument, a prank or a moment of poor judgement can quickly escalate into an arrest.

Understanding these laws can help ensure that a good night out does not end with a trip to Dundalk Garda Station.

The Public Order Acts are designed to protect everyone’s right to enjoy public places safely. While most people associate these laws with fighting or drunken behaviour, they cover a much broader range of conduct than many realise.

One of the most common offences is being intoxicated in a public place to the extent that a person poses a danger to themselves or others. Having a few

drinks is not illegal, but if intoxication results in aggressive behaviour, an inability to care for yourself or conduct that puts others at risk, Gardaí have the power to intervene.

Disorderly conduct is another offence that regularly arises during nights out. This generally refers to behaviour that causes serious annoyance or disruption to other members of the public.

Loud shouting, persistent abusive behaviour, creating disturbances outside pubs or takeaway restaurants, or refusing to calm down when requested by Gardaí can all potentially lead to arrest.

Many people are surprised to learn that public order offences do not always involve physical violence. Using threatening, abusive or insulting language in public may also amount to an offence if it causes fear or seriously disturbs those nearby. A heated exchange that seems harmless to those involved may be experienced very differently by others who witness it.

Physical altercations remain one of the most obvious ways that people find themselves before the courts. A disagreement that escalates into pushing, punching or threatening another person can quickly result in criminal charges.

Even where injuries are relatively minor, assault is a criminal of-

fence and can carry significant consequences.

Self-defence is recognised under Irish law, but only where the force used is reasonable and proportionate. Continuing a fight after the threat has ended or retaliating excessively may remove that legal protection. Walking away from a confrontation is almost always the safest legal and practical option.

Another issue that regularly arises in busy town centres is failing to comply with a lawful direction from a member of An Garda Síochána. If Gardaí instruct someone to leave an area to prevent disorder or ask them to stop certain behaviour, refusing to comply without reasonable excuse may itself constitute an offence. Often, a simple decision

to cooperate prevents a relatively minor incident from becoming a criminal matter.

Criminal damage is another offence that frequently follows nights out involving excessive alcohol. Damaging shop windows, kicking bins, breaking bottles, vandalising street furniture or damaging parked vehicles may all result in prosecution. What may seem like drunken horseplay can leave someone facing compensation orders, fines or a criminal conviction.

Public urination is another behaviour that some people dismiss as harmless but which can also lead to legal consequences. As Dundalk’s streets become busier during the summer months, complaints from local residents and businesses often increase where

this type of behaviour occurs. Respecting public spaces helps ensure the town remains welcoming for everyone.

From a local perspective, Dundalk enjoys a vibrant hospitality sector that contributes significantly to the town’s economy and social life. The recent good weather has brought more people into outdoor seating areas, beer gardens and the town centre during the evenings, creating a lively atmosphere for businesses and visitors alike. With larger crowds, however, comes an increased responsibility for everyone to behave respectfully and safely.

It is worth remembering that Gardaí are not looking to arrest people unnecessarily. Their role is to maintain public order and ensure that everyone can enjoy public spaces without intimidation or disorder. In many situations, a warning or direction is enough to resolve matters. However, where behaviour becomes violent, threatening or persistently disruptive, arrest may become unavoidable.

For younger adults in particular, it is important to appreciate that a criminal conviction can have consequences extending well beyond the immediate penalty. Certain professions, international travel, visa applications and future employment oppor-

tunities may all be affected by a criminal record. A poor decision lasting only a few minutes can have repercussions for years.

Fortunately, most public order offences are entirely avoidable.

Planning transport home in advance, keeping an eye on friends, drinking responsibly and walking away from confrontations are simple steps that significantly reduce the likelihood of problems arising. Very few people ever regret avoiding an argument, but many regret becoming involved in one.

As Dundalk continues to enjoy the summer evenings, the message is straightforward. Have fun, support local businesses and look after one another, but remember that there are legal boundaries designed to protect everyone. Understanding the law is not about taking the enjoyment out of a night out; it is about ensuring that the only memories you take home are good ones.

Ultimately, public order laws exist to balance individual freedom with the rights of others to enjoy public spaces safely. By showing respect, acting responsibly and knowing when to walk away, everyone can play their part in keeping Dundalk’s nights out enjoyable, welcoming and trouble-free.

Irish Sport gains representation on International Down Syndrome Athletics Executive Board IRELAND has secured new representation within the global governance of sport for athletes with Down syndrome following the co-option of Tessa van Heerden from Dundalk Co. Louth, to the Executive Board of the International Athletic Association for Athletes with Down Syndrome (IAADS).

The appointment was confirmed during the IAADS Executive Meeting held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in June. A vacancy on the Executive Board arose following the adoption of an amendment to the IAADS Constitution, creating additional positions to support the organisation’s growing international programme.

Tessa was co-opted to the role of Member-atLarge, with responsibility for Communications and Development, reflecting both the increasing importance of global engagement within the organisation and the need to expand opportunities for athletes with Down syndrome in emerging regions.

IAADS is the international governing body for athletics for athletes with Down syndrome and operates under the umbrella of the Sports Union for Athletes with

Jamie Linden and Tessa.

Down Syndrome (SUDS), the worldwide federation dedicated to promoting, developing and governing sport for athletes with Down syndrome.

The appointment marks a significant recognition of Ireland’s contribution to the advancement of inclusive sport and provides an opportunity to strengthen international collaboration in athletics for athletes with Down syndrome.

Having completed the Federation of Irish Sport’s Board Readiness Programme in 2024,

Tessa believes the experience provided a strong foundation for taking on international governance responsibilities.

Speaking following her appointment, Tessa said: “I am honoured to be co-opted to the IAADS Executive Board and grateful for the confidence shown in me by my colleagues. Athletics for athletes with Down syndrome continues to grow internationally, and I look forward to contributing to the development of effective communications while helping to expand op-

portunities for athletes across the Globe.”

“As a woman involved in sports governance, I am particularly proud of this appointment. Representation matters, and I hope this demonstrates to other women in Irish sport that there are opportunities to contribute and lead at the highest levels. Completing the Federation of Irish Sport’s Board Readiness Programme in 2024 gave me valuable insight into governance, strategy and board responsibilities, and I felt confident stepping into this role when the opportunity arose.”

As Sport Coordinator for the Louth/Meath branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, Tessa van Heerden has worked closely with athletes and families for a number of years and has been instrumental in developing Ireland’s first-ever multi-sport team for the European Championships for Athletes with Down Syndrome in Padua, Italy, in 2023.

In her new position, Tessa will support the development of communications strategies aimed at increasing awareness of the achievements of athletes with Down syndrome while assisting in the growth of athletics programmes across Africa.

Heritage trail proposal Two New Fire Appliances seeks to link Faughart and Strengthen Emergency Creggan across the border Response Across Louth

FINE Gael’s Northern Ireland Engagement Group has visited Faughart in Co Louth and Creggan in Co Armagh as part of a renewed push to develop a crossborder heritage trail and promote South Armagh’s history alongside north Louth under the Ireland’s Ancient East brand.

The visit followed an April motion brought by Cllr John Reilly (FG) at Louth County Council, asking the local authority to write to the Minister seeking the inclusion of South Armagh on the Ireland’s Ancient East website, highlighting the growing recognition of the area’s historical and cultural assets.

According to Cllr Reilly, the proposal was about recognising and promoting shared heritage on both sides of the border.

“It is to support adding South Armagh to Ireland’s Ancient East and selling our shared heritage, which does not stop at this 100-year-old border,” he said.

“There is a wealth of history there at the moment that is not being sold.”

The delegation included group chair Emer Currie TD, Paula Butterly TD, David Maxwell TD, Senators P.J. Murphy and Páraic Brady, Cllr John Reilly and group secretary Cllr Ted Leddy. Local historian Una Walsh joined the group, providing insight into the significance of the historical sites on the visit.

Although Fine Gael described the engagement as a first-of-itskind visit by its Northern Ireland Engagement Group to South Armagh and Crossmaglen, the campaign has wider cross-border support. In South Armagh, SDLP councillors Pete Byrne and Declan McAteer, along with the South Armagh Business Improvement Group, helped host the delegation and arrange meetings with local businesses.

Focusing on the potential for cross-border tourism, including a proposed heritage trail linking Faughart in north Louth with Creggan near Crossmaglen, the visit began at Faughart, traditionally associated with St Brigid and includes Old Faughart Graveyard, St Brigid’s Well and the reputed burial place of Edward Bruce, brother of Robert the Bruce, who was killed at the Battle of Faughart in 1318.

torical significance of the site.

The group then travelled across the border to Creggan Graveyard in South Armagh, the burial place of Gaelic Irish poets Art Mac Cooey, Pádraig Mac Aliondain and Séamus Mór Mac Murphy.

The churchyard at Creggan is also said to be associated with the O’Neill dynasty.

The Reverend Shirley Murphy, rector of the grouped Church of Ireland parishes of Dundalk, Heynestown Union, Ballymascanlan Union and Creggan, said the visit was an important opportunity to bring wider attention to the site.

“This is an amazing opportunity for us,” she said. “I am so thankful to Cllr John Reilly for bringing this forward and helping to make it fruitful.

“As rector, I am very happy, and the congregation and community are very happy too, because this is a historical burial site. There is a lot of rich history in the church and people need to know about it by visiting. “Úna Walsh gave the tour and Ken Donaldson, our secretary, did the tour of the church and explained what is happening here.

We are looking forward to what will come out of it.”

The group also visited the Cardinal Ó Fiaich Heritage Centre in Cullyhanna and met with business representatives at Crossmaglen Credit Union for a “productive” meeting.

At that meeting, local representatives raised concerns that South Armagh had been “left behind in economic development support” despite its strong links with Dundalk, and called for greater investment, improved infrastructure and stronger crossborder policy support.

Emer Currie TD, chair of the Fine Gael Northern Ireland Engagement Group, said the visit showed the potential of border communities.

“This visit clearly demonstrated the opportunities for border communities,” she said. “There is enormous potential in this region, particularly through initiatives such as a cross-border heritage trail and stronger economic cooperation.”

Deputy Paula Butterly TD said it had been “a fantastic opportunity to highlight what our ancient east has to offer and how the border counties can work together to promote tourism, which will benefit us all.”

Cllr Reilly said it was “vital that areas like North Louth and South Armagh are not overlooked” adding, “With the right support and collaboration, we can deliver real improvements in infrastructure, tourism and rural development.”

Meanwhile, Louth County Council confirmed it is in ongoing communication with its partners in Fáilte Ireland, Tourism NI and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) on a range of tourism and heritage initiatives and it understands that Newry Down District Council has made representations to Fáilte Ireland regarding inclusion in the Ireland’s Ancient East brand.

“The Council is actively involved in cross-border heritage and tourism projects, including the Carlingford Lough Shared Destinations Project, a €6 million cross-border initiative involving Fáilte Ireland, Tourism NI, Louth County Council and NMDDC. The project aims to develop sustainable tourism amenities around Carlingford Lough, with a particular focus on expanding trailheads, improving water access points and enhancing crossborder connectivity.

“Louth County Council remains committed to working with tourism partners on both sides of the border to strengthen tourism and heritage linkages in the region, including between North Louth and South Armagh, through ongoing collaboration and participation in cross-border initiatives.”

TWO new fire appliances have joined the fleet of Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service.

One appliance will be based at Dundalk Fire Station and the second appliance will be based at Drogheda Fire Station. The new vehicles will help firefighters respond to emergencies across the county, including along major road networks and in growing communities of Dundalk and Drogheda.

Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Dolores Minogue, welcomed the arrival of the new appliances, saying: “The arrival of these two new fire appliances is an important investment in public safety and in the communities we serve. Our firefighters provide an exceptional service every day, often in challenging circumstances. It is essential that they have the equipment they need to do their job safely and effectively. These vehicles will help ensure that residents, businesses and visitors across County Louth continue to receive a fast and reliable emergency response when they need it most.”

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony for the fire appliances at Drogheda Fire Station, Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, Cllr Declan Power, said:

“I want to also acknowledge the arrival of these new fire appliances and to commend the work that our fire services do on a daily basis. As one of the organisers of National Services Day, which takes place on the first Saturday of September, I hope to see Drogheda’s newest fire appliance on display at this year’s event, giving members of the public an opportunity to see it up close and to recognise the fantastic service our firefighters provide to the community, to Drogheda and to County Louth each and every day.”

The new appliances are part of ongoing investment in fire and emergency services. Funding was provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Government’s Fire Services Capital Programme, which is managed by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.

Chief Executive of Louth County Council, David Conway, said: “As County Louth continues to grow, the demand for fire and rescue services also increases. These new vehicles will help improve emergency response, support firefighter safety and strengthen the service we provide to communities across the county. I would

like to acknowledge the continued support of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in funding this important investment.”

Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service responds to hundreds of emergency incidents every year. These include fires, road traffic collisions, severe weather events and flooding. The new appliances are part of an ongoing fleet replacement programme. This programme ensures that firefighters have access to modern, reliable equipment as they continue to protect communities across Dundalk, Drogheda and the wider County Louth area.

Chief Fire Officer with Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service, Robert Page, said: “These new appliances will further strengthen our emergency response service. They include the latest firefighting, rescue and communications technology and are designed to deal with a wide range of incidents. From fires and road traffic collisions to flooding and severe weather events, these vehicles will help our firefighters respond quickly and effectively while maintaining the highest standards of safety for both crews and the public.”

Funding announced for lockers and showers at three Louth swimming spots OUTDOOR swimmers at Templetown, Port and Clogherhead beaches, are set to benefit from new lockers and shower facilities after €18,000 in funding was allocated to county as part of a national investment in outdoor swimming amenities.

The funding forms part of a €400,000 nationwide package announced by Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD, aimed at improving infrastructure and accessibility at outdoor swimming locations across the country.

Welcoming the allocation, Louth TD Paula Butterly (FG) said she was “absolutely delighted to see this further funding awarded to Louth”.

“Our beaches at Clogherhead, Port and Templetown are treasured community amenities, and this investment will make them even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”

Deputy Butterly said the announcement builds on previous Healthy Ireland funding secured for Louth last year, when €20,000 was allocated for movable double beach changing cabins at Clogherhead, Port and Templetown and a further €10,000 was also provided for amphibious wheelchairs at the locations, with the aim of improving access for people with reduced mobility.

flected again in this latest announcement,” she said, adding the latest funding places a strong emphasis on accessibility, ensuring that people of all abilities can enjoy the county’s coastline.

Councillor raises policing concern over Junction 20 A SHORT stretch of road at Ravensdale has raised an unusual policing concern, with Cllr John Reilly (FG) asking Government Ministers to examine whether Garda and PSNI operations are being affected by the layout of Junction 20 on the M1/N1 route.

The issue centres on a section of road near the Louth-Armagh border, where Cllr Reilly says traffic using the Junction 20 exit briefly enters Northern Ireland before returning towards County Louth and the old Newry Road.

He believes the “unique geographical layout of the motorway” presents an anomaly which may affect cross-border policing on the M1 at the junction and may have implications for operational policing and public safety.

“The motorway was constructed around 15 years ago and, because to exit the motorway at junction 20 you must enter Northern Ireland for approximately 200 metres to travel back onto the old Newry Road , Garda patrol vehicles operating in the Ravensdale area are prohibited from using the junction 20 exit,” Cllr Reilly explained.

“Currently, a Garda vehicle must travel past junction 20, approximately a kilometre to reach a designated gap in the central crash barrier before being able to safely change direction. I understand similar difficulties exist for the PSNI.” Cllr Reilly said the matter had been brought to his attention by members of An Garda Síochána, who outlined practical concerns around the use of the junction by patrol vehicles operating in the Ravensdale area.

“This issue has been brought to my attention by serving Gardaí who have highlighted practical difficulties arising from the location of this section of the M1,” he said, adding the issue appears to be linked to the geography of the road rather than any lack of cooperation between the two police services. “ As a lifelong resident” of the border region himself, he pointed out that local cross-border cooperation has long been a practical reality.

“People living along the border know that many local roads cross in and out of jurisdictions several times over short distances,” he said.

“Both An Garda Síochána and the PSNI have always worked closely together in the interests of public safety. This issue appears to arise solely because of the geographical location of the motorway rather than any local operational concern.”

The councillor has written to the relevant Minister and has also brought the matter to the attention of the Minister for Justice. He said the issue may involve both justice and foreign affairs considerations because of its cross-border nature.

He now intends to submit a motion at the September meeting of Louth County Council. If supported, the council would formally engage with the relevant Government Departments.

Cllr Reilly said he has urged the government to investigate if practical solutions can be identified to ensure policing services “are not hindered” so the safety of road users and frontline person-

nel remains paramount.

“This is a matter that deserves careful consideration,” he said.

“If there are administrative, legislative, or cross-border arrangements that could improve the situation, they should be explored. Effective policing and public safety must always come first.”

Commenting on the issue raised, An Garda Siochana told the Dundalk Leader An Garda Síochána does not comment on remarks made by third parties but said the border with Northern Ireland, in general, provides additional operational complexity which An Garda Síochána has been managing since foundation over 100 years ago.

“J20, M1 motorway became operational in August 2007 over 19 years ago and has not caused any significant issues in that period.

“An Garda Síochána has extensive experience in providing a prompt and efficient policing service throughout the Louth North Community Engagement Area,” it stated.

“An Garda Síochána are able to respond to calls using appropriate routes and turning points built into the motorway infrastructure in proximity to the border, if required.”

It added that it works closely with, and has a very positive relationship with its colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

The Dundalk Leader has also contacted the PSNI, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Justice for comment on the matter.

Louth to receive €1m for Storm Chandra road repairs LOUTH County Council is to receive €1 million in additional funding to repair regional and local roads damaged by Storm Chandra.

The allocation is part of a €40 million Department of Transport package for local authorities dealing with severe storm damage to roads and bridges earlier this year.

TD for Louth Erin McGreehan (FF) welcomed the funding, saying Storm Chandra had caused “serious and significant damage” to Louth’s roads.

“Our regional and local roads are vital for connecting commu-

nities and ensuring people can travel safely every day,” Deputy McGreehan said. “It is important that damaged roads are restored as quickly as possible.”

The Department of Transport funding was announced by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, together with Ministers of State Seán Canney and Jerry Buttimer.

Following assessments carried out in March, around 130 roads nationwide were found to require complete reconstruction, while more than 440 had sustained significant damage.

Several bridge structures were

also damaged and made impassable.

Deputy McGreehan said the €1 million allocation would help Louth County Council carry out essential repairs.

“I welcome the Government’s decision to provide this additional funding, recognising the exceptional costs local authorities have faced following the storm,” she said.

“This €1 million allocation will help Louth County Council undertake the necessary repairs and ensure our road network remains safe and resilient for everyone who relies on it.”

OPW says Roche Castle works nearing completion REPAIR works inside Roche Castle’s North Tower are nearing completion, the Office of Public Works has said, but no timeframe has yet been confirmed for the next phase of works.

The update follows concerns raised at the latest Louth County Council meeting, where Cllr John Reilly (FG) asked for clarity on the status of conservation works at the 13th-century castle.

He told the meeting there appeared to be no visible activity on site and raised concern about the condition of timbers on the scaffolding, which he said had been exposed to the “Irish climate and all the rain” for an estimated three-and-ahalf years.

Louth County Council confirmed it had written to the OPW on a number of occasions and remained in ongoing engagement, but had not yet re-

ceived a detailed response on timelines or progress.

The OPW has since told the Dundalk Leader that it has been undertaking repair works to the interior of the North Tower of the castle.

“These complex masonry repairs are nearing completion.

The OPW’s skilled workforce, with a portfolio of 165 National Monuments to maintain and protect across ten counties, have carried out these works,” the OPW explained.

“Upon completion of this phase of works, a scaffold will remain in place. A second phase of works is currently being planned which will require Ministerial consent. It is not possible to confirm a timeframe for these works at this time.”

Built circa 1236, Roche Castle, also known as Castleroche Castle, is a National Monument in State guardianship. Heritage Ireland currently lists the site as

available for external viewing only due to ongoing works on the interior of the castle.

Cllr Reilly welcomed confirmation that works are progressing, but said the length of the closure has been difficult for the local community and visitors.

“The castle has been closed for the past three years, which has been a huge blow to the local community and to many tourists who wished to visit the historic castle,” he said.

“I welcome the repairs and appreciate that the work is meticulous in its approach to repairing a 13th-century castle.

“I will be keeping in touch with the OPW team for more updates and timelines for the completion of the next phases,” Cllr Reilly concluded.

Louth parents ‘waiting for childcare places that do not exist’, says TD THE national debate over childcare costs has turned attention to the availability of places in Louth, after Sinn Féin TD Joanna Byrne claimed parents are waiting for childcare places “that just do not exist”.

Deputy Byrne made the comments after speaking in the Dáil on her party’s motion on childcare, where she called on the Government to back the motion and “finally deliver a plan to make childcare genuinely more affordable and accessible for families, while supporting the educators at the heart of the sector.”

She argued families locally were struggling with both fees and access, with some parents facing difficult choices around work, income and family life.

“Childcare is not a luxury, and it needs to be given priority in investment,” she said.

The debate comes against the backdrop of election commitments by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to reduce childcare fees to €200 a month per child, with the Programme for Government committed to reaching that target over the lifetime of the Government.

Deputy Byrne said that while

families in Louth had heard “multiple announcements” from Government representatives, they had seen “no meaningful action” to deliver on childcare promises.

According to Deputy Byrne, there are more than 29,000 families with children in Louth, including almost 7,000 with a child under the age of four.

She said this compares with 113 childcare providers, with an estimated 46% operating waiting lists.

“We have parents waiting for places that just do not exist,” she said.

The TD highlighted how parents had told her they were worried about being forced to choose between work and family life, while others were relying on fulltime employment to make ends meet but struggling to find childcare locally.

According to Deputy Byrne, some working parents who depended on “stable, affordable and reliable childcare” were being pushed “to the breaking point” by what she described as Government policy failure.

Deputy Byrne also criticised the pace of progress on a Government proposal announced in January to purchase buildings for

childcare facilities.

“In January, the Minister announced a proposal to purchase buildings that will provide childcare facilities. When I asked what was proposed in these plans for County Louth and what additional supply was proposed for areas of disadvantage in the Drogheda and south Louth areas, the response I received stated that no final decisions had been made on specific projects, but that the Minister looked forward to sharing details of projects as they were agreed,” Deputy Byrne said.

“It has been six months and there have been no details or additional places,” she added.

“Stock responses and soundbites” did not help parents waiting for places or childcare professionals struggling to keep services open, she added.

“I called on the Minister to get real when it comes to the burden this is having on families. We need to support parents and invest in childcare, both in its provision and in the educators who deliver this service to our communities,” Deputy Byrne concluded.

Evidence was given that a vehicle to Tony O’Reilly of Cardee, Dublin Road, Dundalk, was parked on a double yellow line at Ardee Road, Dundalk but the fine as not paid. The defendant did not appear in court.

UISCE Éireann is asking customers across the Cooley Peninsula to conserve water as increased use during the current spell of warm weather and an increase in demand means supplies are being used faster than water can be treated.

While raw water sources remain stable, the level of demand is placing pressure on the treatment process. This means treated water is being used more quickly than it can be produced and stored in local reservoirs.

Customers are being encouraged to reduce usage where possible to allow treated water reservoirs time to recover. This will help maintain a consistent supply for homes and businesses across the Peninsula.

Periods of sustained high demand can lead to reduced pressure and, in some cases, interruptions to the availability of water for customers.

Simple steps taken at home, in the garden and at work can collectively make a real difference in protecting supply.

As a precautionary measure, we are introducing alternative water supplies over the course of this weekend, which are available at: Cooley Kickams GFC and Omeath bottle bank.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

LOUTH Local Sports Partnership (LSP) has secured €18,000 in funding through the Sport Ireland Research and Evaluation Grant Scheme to undertake an innovative research project evaluating the GAA All-Stars Initiative in County Louth. The project will be delivered in partnership with Dublin City University’s (DCU) School of Health and Human Performance, with support from Louth GAA, whose clubs play a central role in delivering the GAA All-Stars programme across the county.

The GAA All-Stars Initiative provides children and young people with additional needs the opportunity to participate in Gaelic games in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment. In recent years, the programme has grown significantly in County Louth through the leadership of Louth LSP and the commitment of Louth GAA clubs and volunteers, becoming recognised as one of Ireland’s leading examples of inclusive community sport.

While the programme’s positive impact on children and families is widely recognised, there has been limited formal research examining how it is delivered and identifying the factors that contribute to its success.

Eagles soar to capture week summer series of darts event EVENT 3 of the Summer Series Of Darts in the Northend Bar saw the Annual St Olivers Old Folks 3-a-side take place.

This long running competition has found a new residence in recent years in the Northend Bar. The darts thrown on the night shows that the quality of darts in the locality is still improving. 15 teams (45 players) entered the competition and starting off @ best of 3 x 501 and extended games in later rounds, this format could prove challenging to even the most seasoned thrower.

The oldest team on the night, made up of long time throwers in Gabriel Mc Kenna, Brian McArdle & Paddy Gibney faced a team of Vinny Rogers, Jordan McInerney and Marty Lee and the Oul Boys after beating them would then go onto beat Aidan Min-

to , Barry Myles and Kyle Dollard before losing in the Semifinal to the noisiest team of the night, Da-Legends, made up of Justy McKevitt, Michael McEvoy and Raymie “DA” Carroll.

Gino Cooney, Shane Cairns and Callum Fitzsimmons near caused the shock of the night when they narrowly lost out to the Eagles team, wiring the Bullseye to leave 25 to let their opponents come back in and finish the game and let the Eagles off the hook.

The Queens Of Darts team made up of Cara O’Shaughnessy, Joanne O’Shaughnessy & Aaliyah Clarke were hoping to go well in the competition and after getting to the board final they would eventually lose out to the Eagles team of Gerry Rice, Conor McArdle and Martin Carvill.

Mickey McMahon, Darren Ludlow and Lee Smyth were seen as dark horses to go well and after getting to the overall semi-final they would lose out to the Eagles team.

The final saw the Eagles run out 4-0 winners over DaLegends team but it wasn’t as one way as the final outcome shows.

Gerry Rice & Conor McArdle both hit 180’s while Conor McArdle took out a monster 154 checkout (treble 19, treble 19 & tops) with their opponents waiting to attempt to Da-Legends team who were runners up. takeout a 1 dart finish, some cracking darts were thrown all night.

Next up is Event 4, the Thomas and Richard Callan Perpetual Shield on Friday 17th July.

Its a singles competition that’s due to start @ 9pm.

100 skips a day for sick kids 21-YEAR-old Rachel McNally is spending the month of July raising money for the Children’s Health Foundation by taking part in the 100 skips a day challenge.

Rachel, who attends the National Learning Network is also a part time student at O’Fiach Institute where she is currently doing a course in Animal Science and Care. According to Rachel all money donated will go towards essential equipment for sick children.

“My goal is to raise awareness of the fundraiser and encourage support for an important cause that helps sick children and their families. The money donated by you, no matter the size of donation, will go towards essential equipment for sick children, advancements with treatments and services, and you will be gifting kids a chance to smile and laugh.

Foundation Fundraising and the skipping is part of the challenge, I did not choose the skipping part but I was up for trying skipping since I wanted to try a new exercise.

“The first few days have been going great, I have been improving my skipping ability with some hiccups here and there, I am not finding the challenge too difficult.

Cross Cooley Challenge raises over €86k for two local charities THE 14th Annual Cross Cooley Challenge took part on Saturday the 23rd of May 2026 with organisers looking to raise as much money as possible for Maria Goretti Foundation and the North Louth Hospice and Homecare
