Injured player lay in rain for 80 minutes By Paul Byrne
An U16 player who sustained a head injury during a match in Cooley was left lying on a pitch for 80 minutes in the rain before an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital. Philip Trainor was playing for Ardee St Mary’s U16 away to Cooley U16s when his head accidentally collided with the hip of one of the Cooley players during the game which was played in rainy conditions. The young Ardee man collapsed lying motionless on the wet ground leading to an ambulance being called at 8.41pm when it became apparent how serious the injury was. According to the HSE the delay was due to emergency resources in the area dealing with emergencies elsewhere.
“The National Ambulance Service can confirm an emergency 999/112 call was received for the Cooley area of County Louth on 6th July 2015 at 20:41hrs. At the time the call was received a number of emergency resources in the area were dealing with other emergency calls. “The nearest available emergency resource was a rapid response vehicle with an advanced paramedic on board which was immediately dispatched to the incident and arrived at the scene at 9:41.
