A number of councillors have questioned how the local authority is in a position to make up a shortfall of €300,000 following the Drogheda pay parking debacle, having previously insisted that there was no money available. Last week Louth County Council Chief Executive Joan Martin released a statement indicating that she was suspending charging for parking in Drogheda pending the adoption of new Bye Laws having received legal advice on the issue. Joan Martin went on to estimate that the council would lose approximately €300,000 in lost revenue over the three-month period where parking will be free in Drogheda. However, she insisted that this shortfall would not affect the budget for 2018 and indicated that she had identified a number of sources to meet the sum involved.
