Once again the North Louth community is at the centre of an outpouring of national grief following the murder of Garda Tony Golden in Omeath on Sunday evening. Garda Golden, a 36-year-old father of three, was responding to a domestic abuse call at a house at Mullach Alainn near Omeath when he was fatally shot by 24 year old Adrian Crevan Mackin. It is understood that the assailant turned the gun on himself with Gardai treating the incident as a murder-suicide. Siobhan Phillips, who was also shot at the scene, was seriously injured in the incident and remains in hospital where her condition is described as critical. Garda Golden who was originally from Ballina in Co.
Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan expressed her sympathies to the family of Garda Golden. ““I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of my colleague in a fatal shooting incident this evening while carrying out their duties.” stated Commissioner O’Sullivan. “At this time my thoughts and prayers and those of the entire Garda service are with his wife Nicola, his three children, his extended family, friends and colleagues. Dundalk celebrate another league title By Paul Byrne Dundalk FC are champions of Ireland for the 11th time after clinching the title in Tallaght against long time rivals Shamrock Rovers thanks to Richie Towell’s 22nd goal of the season. Dundalk FC have had some fantastic teams and won many trophies all the way through their proud 112 year history but one feat which had eluded all of those great teams was winning the title back to back. That all changed on Friday evening in almost surreal circumstances as Dundalk finished their game in Tallaght. Full Story on Page 10
