The relationship between DkIT President Dr Michael Mulvey and a number of TUI affiliated staff members is at breaking point over decisions from the college boss which a source claims has cost the college millions.

The relationship between President Mulvey and TUI staff has deteriorated to the point where it is expected that the TUI will shortly call a motion for a vote of no confidence in the DkIT President who has been in the role since 2017.

Last week it was announced that DkIT re-

ceived €760,000 in funding via the Technological Universities Transformation Fund (TUTF) to progress plans towards becoming the region’s first Technological University. However, a source in DkIT has accused President Mulvey of making a ‘serious strategic mistake’ by delaying talks with potential partners (other Institutes of Technology around the country) to form a consortium while also making the startling claim that the college would not even have received the funding for €760,000 had it not been for the TUI’s intervention.

TWO Formula 1 drivers sent a video message to a local man diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease urging him to “keep

fighting”.

Sean Woods, from Dromiskin, is a wellknown racing driver and team owner at Mondello Park.

Unfortunately, Sean was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in February 2019.

“He’s always been a fan of racing. He’s been into cars since he was four or five year’s old,” said Sean’s daughter, Aimee.

“He started rallying when he was 16 and moved on to circuit racing. It’s a bit of a lifeline at the moment because watching F1 keeps him entertained and in good form.”

Sean’s family and friends ran a race meeting fundraiser at Mondello Park last year raising over €10,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).

Aimee thought he might like a message or autograph from the McLaren drivers Carlos Sainz or Lando Norris.

She contacted Mondello commentator Leo Nulty, who contacted

the McLaren communications team.

Not only did they respond almost immediately, both drivers sent Sean a video clip just before Sunday’s Eiffel Grand Prix thanking him for the support and urging him to keep fighting.

Sean and his family were absolutely delighted with this and are hoping that it will help with awareness of the debilitating disease.

“He was shocked and thought it was a wind up. I was just hoping to get an autograph. I didn’t ask for the video,” said Aimee.

“Things are difficult at the moment so anything like this that brings joy is just fantastic.”

RAI call for ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown

A DUNDALK restaurant owner is calling for greater emphasis on enforcing Covid-19 rules amid calls for a “circuit breaker” lockdown to help save the industry.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) is in favour of the short and strict lockdown described as a “circuit breaker,” if it means Covid-19 case numbers will reduce and the industry can reopen fully for the winter period.

“The best thing for us might be to complete a full lockdown and open for Christmas. If we are open for Christmas it will boost staff morale,” said RAI President Mark McGowan.

“If we are closed for Christmas we are dead.

‘Show must go on’ at An Táin

AN TAIN Arts Centre Director says “the show must go on” for the arts in Dundalk under new level 3 restrictions.

According to An Tain Director Paul Hayes, the Dundalk Arts Centre will continue to do most of its programming but will move to online streams.

“We are a place of work so a number of our artists and performers will be able to continue with a number of different rehearsals,” he said.

“Our school of music, Grow Music, will continue with one-to-one lessons, but our group lessons will stop under level three.”

Under level 3 restrictions, museums, galleries and other cultural attractions must all be closed. Libraries will be available for eservices and call and collect.

The restrictions are due to remain in place until October 27 when they will come under further review.

Deputy Fitzpatrick raises issue of lost Carroll Village Covid tests Independent TD Peter Fitzpatrick has raised the issue of ‘mislaid or lost’ Covid tests in the direct provision centre in Carroll Village (Dundalk). Last week it was reported that 80 Covid tests were carried out on residents of the Carroll Village centre on 20th September and that those swabs were subsequently mislaid or lost. According to Deputy Fitzpatrick there has been concern locally in relation to the news.

“I raise the issue of direct provision and quarantining in the Dundalk area. In the centre of Dundalk, the Carroll village apartment centre is currently used as a direct provision centre and has been since 2005.

The number of asylum seekers it houses varies from around 50 to 80.

“The building itself is on the old P.J. Carroll site at the northern end of the town and is

very well known to locals. Last week, it was reported on local radio that 80 Covid tests were carried out on residents of the Carroll Village centre on 20 September and that those swabs were subsequently mislaid or lost.

“The Taoiseach can imagine that this has caused great concern locally and many questions are now being asked. I understand that subsequent tests have been carried out. We need to find out exactly how these tests could go missing. It is important we get answers and find out if this was an isolated, once-off case or if there were many more cases. We need clarification as to whether this was an isolated case.

“On quarantine, a local hotel on the outskirts of Dundalk, not far from the Carroll Village centre, is being used as a quarantine centre. Again, my

understanding is that those in direct provision who need to selfisolate or quarantine are being directed to this facility for a twoweek isolation period.

I believe the centre is housing people from all over the country for this purpose. As the Taoiseach can imagine, this is causing great concern for people locally. The local hotel in question has been used for this purpose since the beginning of September.

“These are real concerns that need to be urgently addressed.

The people of Dundalk, like those of the rest of the country, have made tremendous sacrifice and effort to combat this virus. We need to ensure we all work together and follow the same guidelines so we can all get back to some form of normality,” concluded Deputy Fitzpatrick.

Taoiseach insisted that protecting those living in Direct Provision accommodation remained an absolute priority for the government.

“Protecting those living in direct provision accommodation centres from any Covid-19 outbreak has been an absolute priority of Government. A comprehensive programme of serial Covid-19 testing by the HSE has been completed across 66 accommodation centres. My understanding is about 3,300 tests have been undertaken in direct provision centres and about 18 positive tests have emerged from that testing programme.

That is a positivity rate of 0.53% among residents and staff. I will endeavour to bring clarity to the points the Deputy raised in the context of local media highlighting these issues.

As the Deputy knows, there are two

international protection accommodation services facilities in Dundalk, Carroll Village and the Carnbeg re-accommodation facility. Carroll Village independent living is a block of apartment-style independent living units housing mostly family groups. The HSE’s investigation into the specific incident the Deputy highlighted found there was an isolated logistics issue whereby swabs did not reach the laboratory within the required timeframe.

As the swabs had expired, they had to be retaken in line with standard practice. The HSE has apologised for the inconvenience this caused to the residents concerned and it conducted on-site followup testing on Friday, 2 October to complete this serial testing and all results have now been communicated at this point.

“The Carnbeg Ho-

tel, which opened earlier this year, is used as emergency, temporary accommodation for people who willingly left their accommodation centre at the start of the pandemic and are now seeking to be re-accommodated by the International Protection Accommodation Service, IPAS. To be clear, the Departments of Justice and Equality and Education have confirmed the Carnbeg Hotel was not affected by the retaking of tests in recent days.

This facility is used for 14-day quarantine prior to re-accommodation in a dedicated accommodation centre. It has a regular turnover of temporary residents.

These residents had been living in private accommodation located throughout the country prior to requesting reaccommodation from the Department. That is the situation as of now,” stated An Taoiseach.

Cllr Seån Kelly at Tuesday’s meeting of Dundalk MD raised the issue of a need of a full pedestrian crossing on McEntee Avenue at the Friary Schools/Harp Lager. Cllr Kelly had raised this issue previously and the Council had undertaken a traffic count at the location last year which showed there was no need for a pedestrian crossing.

Cllr Kelly commented ‘We should be looking at other factors, in this case we have got the Friary schools with a combined total of hundreds of students, we have got the Friary Youth Club

that has 300 members attending every Friday night and other weekend events at the Centre, St Dominic’s with regular games and training at the Field and it’s an aging area with many local people attending mass at the Church. There is therefore extremely high footfall and the Council response that there is school warden there for very short periods on school days just doesn’t cut it’ The Council officials present undertook to look at this area again and consider it for a low-cost safety scheme of works.

Dundalk down to 28th in IBAL table DUNDALK has been deemed “moderately littered� and is in the bottom half of the league table in the annual Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey.

Dundalk is in 28th place in the league slightly ahead of Navan which has also been deemed “moderately littered� and is in 31st place.

Drogheda, however, has been awarded a “clean status� and is in 21st place out of the 40 areas surveyed.

The annual Irish Business Against Litter survey returned the worst results in over a decade.

Landmark week for local school Dundalk school Colåiste Chú Chulainn passed another landmark this week when it used it’s 1 millionth litre of harvested rainwater.

Principal Thomas Sharkey remarked: “Our school was built to support education in a new and modern world. This means we minimise our impact on the environment. The rainwater is

harvested and stored in tanks which supply our school toilets. “Less than two years or just 66 weeks of school after starting to use this system, our rainwater usage meter read 1,000,000 litres on the 8th of October 2020. This is the equivalent of 6,290 barrels of water or 11 years of an average household water usage. “We are proud of our achieve-

ment in reducing our burden on the environment. There is no need to use treated water in school toilets. Redeemer Boys School adapt during pandemic Teachers are facing huge challenges during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and schools have had to introduce a host of new measures to ensure the safety of children. These include creating bubbles or pods for pupils, physical distancing in both the classroom and playground, wearing of ppe in classrooms by teachers and staggering starting times.

A lot of these new rules can be quite regimental and teachers have been looking for ways to make the school day a more communal experience. In the Redeemer Boy’s School Principal Michelle Murray and her staff have ensured their monthly assembly can continue to take place by doing it via video conference.

classes together in the hall on the first Friday of every month.

According to Mrs Murray the communal aspect of assembly was one part of the new regime which was badly missed and one which she decided to rectify.

“Last Friday we had our first Friday Prayer Assembly live on screens within each classroom. We felt that because of all the guidelines we have had to introduce to keep Covid at bay things

had become maybe a bit regimental and there was definitely a feeling amongst teachers and pupils that we were missing the wonderful communal aspect of the school that we all enjoy.

“We came up with the idea to continue to come together as usual on the first Friday of each month but to do so safely by using tv screens in each classroom. The boys have adapted so well to the new way of doing

things in school and I have to say they were extremely attentive throughout the video assembly last week. We kept to the same format as what we always did pre-covid and we gave out awards to our students of the month who were given a wee trophy by their teacher in the classroom when their name was called out.

“From my perspective it was difficult reading out the names of the winners and not being able to see their faces but we plan on using webcams to rectify that and make provision for each class to be able to view each other on screen going forward,” explained Mrs Murray.

“Eventually we hope that the boys will then get more actively involved in the assembly through singing, reading and clapping boys from other classes when they receive their awards,” she added.

A number of IT’s have formed consortiums and in doing so received much bigger funds via the TUTF. For example, Athlone and Limerick Institutes of Technology formed a consortium and are getting €5,000,000, Sligo IT, Letterkenny IT and GMIT joined together to form CUA and will get €5,700,000 between, while Cork and Tralee ITs are getting €8,250,000 after joining forces to become MTU. According to a DkIT source, President Mulvey’s refusal to speak to other IoT’s last year was a decision which cost the college millions.

“This disparity in funding is because President Mulvey made a serious strategic mistake by failing to negotiate with other Institutes of Technology for DkIT to join a Technological University Consortium.

“Despite claiming on his arrival in 2017 that he would pursue TU status he discontinued talks with potential partners shortly after his arrival and instead became bogged down in

internal processes while the rest of the IoT sector formed consortia, got access to TU funding, and moved forward towards TU status.

“Despite repeated warnings from staff that he was making a serious mistake by remaining outside negotiations that were going to influence the Institute’s future and deny DkIT access to Technological University funding the President took no action to enter negotiations with the other IoTs. “The local TUI raised their concern publicly in June 2019 that DkIT was the last major IoT not to

have joined a TU Consortium, which is a precursor to achieving Technological University status, and that the window of opportunity to join a Consortium was closing. Again, Michael Mulvey took no action. In November 2019 the President signed an agreement pledging to an immediate engagement with all existing TU Consortia with a view to joining a TU consortium. He reneged on that promise and it emerged in April 2020 that he had not contacted any of the prospective partner institutes of technology,” stated the

“When finally forced to meet with the other TU consortia Dr. Mulvey was informed by the other TU Consortia that they were too advanced in their process to consider admitting DkIT as a new member, as many of them had by that stage working together for years toward achieving TU status.

“Both Technological University Dublin and the Consortium comprising Athlone and Limerick ITs dismissed any post designation interest in a merger with DkIT. Only the Connaught Ulster Alliance composed of Sligo, Letterkenny and Galway/ Mayo expressed any interest in possibly admitting DkIT at some point in the future, but this will be after their Technological University has already been formed.

“Michael Mulvey has therefore delayed engagement with potential partners so long that DkIT has been deprived of its opportunity to be a participant in the formative negotiations that

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today (Monday, October 12th) announced details of a further 137 rural towns and villages that will benefit from €4.3 million in funding to help them

adjust to COVID-19 restrictions.

The funding is being delivered under the Accelerated Measure of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

This funding will enable towns and villages to implement immediate measures that will encourage

people into towns and villages to shop and socialise, while adhering to public health guidelines.

The funding is facilitated through the Government’s July Stimulus package.

The funding announced today is in addition to €6.1 million allocated by Minister Humphreys to 226 towns and villages since July under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for COVID-19 adaptations.

This means that over 360 projects are now being supported with funding of more than €10 million under the Accelerated Measure of the 2020 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

“The €760,000 announced this week is welcome and has only been achieved because of the work of the TUI without who’s intervention DkIT would not have access to this fund. When compared to 5.7 million and 5.0 million allocated to the CUA and AIT/ LIT it is not so much a story of money gained but millions lost due to the mishandling of the TU Process by the President.

When asked by the Dundalk Leader if DkIT were the last major IoT in the country to become part of

an established TU consortium Thomas Redmond, Head of Communication for the college stated that they remain open to engagement across the sector but currently are fully committed to the agreed three year development pathway with the HEA. “DkIT and the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) are currently not part of an established TU consortia. DkIT remains open to engagement with partners across the sector however it is now fully committed to the agreed threeyear development pathway with the HEA in progression towards and realisation of established TU status.

“The Institute has engaged with all partners over recent years in relation to TU designation. The outcome of this consultation resulted in a decision by the DkIT Governing Body to pursue the agreed threeyear development pathway with the HEA in progression towards and realisation of established TU status,” explained Thomas.

“DkIT is extremely supportive of the HEA’s recent announcement of €760,000 funding via the TUTF which

will be provided exclusively to the institute to pursue its ambition to become a TU. This funding will be critical to the implementation of its three-year development pathway. It is important to recognise that the TUTF is a €90M funding programme offered over three years and the institute will continue to pursue funding opportunities in 2021 and 2022. In accordance with its commitments under the agreed development pathway, DkIT remains confident for a positive outcome,” he added.

“I can confirm that it was the Institute that sought a meeting with the HEA to discuss progress in relation to TU Designation. Representatives from TUI were, in turn, invited by DkIT to attend and be present during the meeting. During this meeting, the CEO of the HEA, Alan Wall proposed the option of a three-year structured development pathway which would allow DkIT to participate in the TURN process and make an application for the Technological Universities Transformation Fund (TUTF) with a view to progression towards and realisation of established TU status,” stated Thomas.

Call for public inquiry over ‘horrifying Dealgan House covid situation’ In response to the new information contained in the Freedom of Information documents from the HSE, Dundalk TD Ruairí Ó Murchú said it was clear ‘that Dealgan House Nursing Home was absolutely overwhelmed and residents were suffering’.

The Sinn Féin representative said the release of information from the HSE was ‘by far the most detailed information received by families of those who died in Dealgan’ about what was happening inside the nursing home before it was taken over by the RCSI Hospital Group.

Mr Ó Murchú said the information was ‘deeply sad and distressing’ for families to read, but it ‘can only strengthen the already widespread

He said: ‘This information is released thanks to the persistence of family members who are tenacious and courageous in their efforts to get to the truth.

‘It comes at a time when there are hundreds of new cases of Covid-19 in the community across the island and already, further outbreaks in nursing homes in the State.

‘The Freedom of Information release shows how health authorities, at high levels, were aware of what was happening in Dealgan and were struggling to respond.

‘No matter what else happens from now on, the HSE, HIQA and the Department of Health have to learn, and learn fast, from what happened at

‘We have been with them

from the start of this process and we are determined to see their wish of a public inquiry fulfilled. Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and his predecessor, Simon Harris, have said the Dealgan families need answers to their questions.

‘This latest release of information lays bare the scandalous and horrifying situation at Dealgan House at the beginning of April, and the State response to it.

‘Now, more than ever, the government needs to step up and give them what the Special Committee on Covid-19 Response last week recommended – a public inquiry into what happened in nursing homes and the State response’.

DkIT launches new fully accessible changing facility Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) has unveiled a new, fully accessible changing and bathroom facility which has been constructed at its campus. The purpose-built facility is a vital resource for students and staff with disabilities who have complex needs.

The accessible changing unit goes beyond a conventional wheelchair-accessible toilet, in that it includes additional assistive technology of a hoist, height adjustable adult-sized changing bench, height accessible basin and toilet. This will give students and staff with disabilities more space and the right equipment to take care of personal hygiene, in safety and in comfort.

The new facility is located on the ground floor in the Main Restaurant building and includes the following equipment: Height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench Ceiling track hoist system Adequate space for a person with disabilities and up to two assistants Centrally located toilet with space both sides for assistants Privacy screen DkIT BA (Hons) in Arts student, Conor Byrne from Clogherhead, campaigned for such a facility to be installed on campus.

“It is fantastic to have such a facility on campus. It is vital that accessible units such as these are available to

students, like myself, so that we can have independence like everyone else to learn, socialise and participate in student life. I am pleased with the work that has been completed and I would like to see more of these types of facilities available across the country.”

DkIT is currently in discussions to make this facility available to the general public.

The institute continues to prioritise accessibility via its Disability Office which provides academic and personal assistance to students with a disability, this includes any student with a physical, sensory or learning difficulty or who has a medical or mental health condition.

In an effort to encourage greater participation from diverse learners, in 2019 the institute joined the national admissions scheme, the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE).

Kelly wants new town service bus route for Northend of Dundalk Cllr Seán Kelly on Tuesday night at the Dundalk MD meeting placed a motion before the Council that members write to the National Transport Authority and engage with them about the introduction of a new town centre bus route serving the north half of Dundalk.

The route would include the Armagh Road and estates like Lios Dubh, Lennon Melia and Coulter Place, the Newry Road, the Doylesfort Road, Dowdallshill, the Racecourse Road and Ath Lethan.

Cllr Kelly commented ‘this is one of the fastest

growing parts of town and unlike others at Fatima, Coxes, M’mor and Bay Estate it has no reg-

ular bus service. There are hundreds of children in this area attending primary and secondary schools in town who can only avail of a limited service at present and we also have a growing elderly population who need vital access to services in Dundalk. It would also give people in other parts of town a public transport link to Dowdallshill graveyard which we don’t have at the minute. It’s hoped that opening a line of dialogue with the NTA and Councillors in Dundalk will give rise to the provision of such a service in future.’

Each week, members of the Lions Club read and record articles from the Dundalk Leader, The Argus and Dundalk Democrat onto CDs. These CDs are then distributed in custommade wallets to listen-

ers in various parts of Co. Louth. Listeners can reverse the address labels in the wallets for return to the Lions Club. An Post does not charge for delivery or return of the wallets so there is no cost to the listeners. Dundalk Lions Club provides the CDs free of charge.

A group of keen history students in third year of Coláiste Chú Chulainn, have been directing some of their energy and can-do attitude into an exciting cross border project. The Entwined Histories project brings schools north and south of the border together to explore significant anniversaries and themes emerging from the Decade of Centenaries.

Early this year, CoOperation Ireland arranged for eight schools from north and south, to meet up in the Skanios Centre in Belfast and then Dundalk stadium, to learn about important centenary topics.

In years gone by, topics have included the signing of the Ulster Covenant; Labour Relations and the Dublin Lockout; The First World War; the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme.

This year’s topics were: The Irish War of Independence, The Spanish Flu, The Government of Ireland Act and the Treaty of Versailles. Coláiste Chú Chulainn Dundalk were paired with Lagan College to explore the War of Independence together.

The schools will also explore the consequences of the war and the impact of partition in Ireland, including the creation of Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State and address

the immanent Level 3 being announced.

Over numerous weeks before and after lockdown, these Advanced Ninja’s worked tirelessly in order to be able to step forward and perform without fault during their Grading. Afterwards Sensei Marcus said, “I wanted to make sure these budding Ninja’s got to grade before new restrictions were introduced and to bring the grading forward by 2 weeks wasn’t an easy decision.

Everyone stepped up and really set the bar very high,

and to say that I was thrilled with the result is putting it mildly.”

Now with Level 3 now in place, Dundalk Karate has ceased training until further notice due to these new restrictions, but they hope to be back up and running when restrictions lift again in order for all members to return to their dojo.

Award winning members from M.A.D Youth Theatre in action

M.A.D Youth Theatre is hosting it’s 10th annual open day on Thursday October 15th at M.A.D Youth Theatre venue located on Earl Street.

They are looking for new members who have an interest in Drama and are between the ages of 1221 years old.

The award winning youth theatre focuses on the social, personal and artistic development of it members. At M.A.D YT members will explore a variety of techniques and devise new plays.

We are grateful to fall under the vital service category like schools so we can keep our doors open and operate with some limitations.

We are doing our part to follow all guidelines given by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs to keep our members and leaders safe. We understand the impact and the value services like ours have on the young people and their wellbeing.

During lockdown we adapted and stayed in contact with current members trough social media and Zoom. We also participated in Covid related training sessions and

The teacher behind coordinating the school end of things, history teacher Mr Fisher, was pleased to see the project continuing: “I’m glad we can continue to be a part of this because it’s something that readies keen students for later study of history and it’s something that also helps them appreciate the ‘bigger picture’ of things. “ “The multi-school, cross border element

is also very exciting and the students are really looking forward to the multi-media and film-production side of things, they have been great with their ideas and as a school, we’re proud of their efforts as part of this.”

“With so many outings and field-trips on hold at the moment too, it’s nice to have a cocurricular activity that we can pursue while adhering to social distancing guidelines”.

Last year, 160 young people from a range of backgrounds engaged in and benefited from a series of interactive workshops, field trips and residential film making sessions.

The project typically provides support and instruction to schools, to compliment the learning in history lessons, in the form of drama and me-

dia facilitators.

But with the schools shutting down due to Covid 19 earlier this year, it put the breaks on this year’s project and there were doubts as to whether it would be possible to do at all.

However, the students have been steadfast in their resolve to see their task through and were able to continue their learning when the mentors and leaders from the project beamed in to visit them on a video-call. The students caught back up with familiar faces, had a refresher lesson delivered remotely and completed a keyword quiz over webcams and microphone.

Next week, the student will get a workshop on film making from the Nerve Centre, a creative media arts and film making group. After this, the

school will become a film set of sorts when the Nerve Centre crew facilitate the filming and editing of a short film to commemorate the War of Independence.

Matt Gamble, one of the facilitators for CoOperation Ireland noted that “under normal conditions this would have been completed in March, but we are very pleased that Cú Chulainn and the other schools are working with us on this.

Ideally, we’d be hoping to premiere the students’ work in a cinema or conference center with family and friends there, but we’re also preparing to do an online premier in the current climate.

Either way we’ll get the students’ work out there and get it the praise and recognition their efforts deserve, watch this space”.

Motor dealers across Ireland have welcomed the omission of the proposed ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 in the Government’s Climate Action bill, which was published yesterday.

The Irish Car Carbon Reduction Alliance (ICCRA), which represents

gases. What appears to be emerging here is an anticar stance. The EU has no ban or end date for the production of petrol or diesel cars. Its focus is on reducing emissions with significant penalties if these targets are not achieved. European car manufacturers are committed to these targets and to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 with an interim target of a 30% reduction by 2030, which the industry is well on the road to achieving. They will face enormous penalties if they miss these targets.

Furthermore, the industry has signed up to the Paris Climate Accord and is investing billions in new emission free technologies. The car industry is doing far more than other industries to tackle carbon emissions and should be left to get on with the job.”

“We support the Government’s commitment to address climate change. However, it cannot continue to make populous statements or set targets without a clear strategy grounded in accurate data and expert opinion. In 2008, the Government, which included the Green Party, set a target of having 250,000 electric cars on the Irish roads by 2020. Currently there are 10,290. Electric vehicles (EVs) are the future. The CAP’s latest target of 840,000 EVs by 2030 is doomed to fail spectacularly also unless there is meaningful action by the Government on taxation. A significant reduction would provide an important stimulus to the replacement of Ireland’s vehicle fleet and the achievement of real and lasting reductions in our carbon emissions.”
