With restrictions easing and Louth’s 14 day incidence rate for COVID-19 continuing to fall (down to 119.5 per 100,000 population compared to national average of 131.9) there have been signs of hope this week after the sacrifices made by many over the past number of months. However, according to local TD Ruairí O’Murchú people need to ‘keep their eye on the prize of winning the war against COVID-19’ while guarding against complacency. This weeks easing of restrictions have seen some construction workers get back to work, the return of schoolchildren and an increase of the travel limit to 20k from the previous 5k. However, while those restrictions are welcome many more businesses and services are stil in limbo with not much immediate hope for the hospitality sector in particular over the next month or two.
