Recent reports indicate that Co Louth may be facing housing shortages over the next ten years if action is not taken. The first warning came last week from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) who said that about 500 new houses were needed each year for seven years in the county to meet the demand. Dundalk based company Links2Plans last week published the National Housing Construction Index which revealed that new project commencements are up 19% on last year in Co Louth, which represents about 93 new builds. However, Louth’s minor fortunes in the residential

construction sector may not meet the growing demand. The number of new planning applications lodged for future residential projects in the first six months of 2014, is down by -1%. From January to June this year there have been 93 new housing commencements, up 19% so far from 2013 when there were a total of 73 new houses commenced building. The previous year, 2012, saw only 82 new projects started and there were only 92 the year before. The amount of new projects is aproximately 70% lower than what is predicted to be needed by the ERSI. On Off win Best Rock Band Award By Niamh Kirk

Irish Band with Dundalk roots, On Off, who moved to California have been honoured by the American music industry. The three piece whose drummer Stevie Ten Bears is from Dundalk and front-man Paulie who lived here for many years, picked up the Best Rock Band in Northern California gong at the Buttes Music Awards, named after the mountain range near where the ceremony takes place. “We were invited to play at the Awards show first.
