Gardaí in Dundalk will patrol local secondary schools at start and end times to reassure parents against targeting of school kids by drug dealers. Dealers have been waiting outside school gates trying to sell a variety of different drugs to teenagers both in the mornings and afternoons as students entered and exited the schools. According to Sergeant Eugene Collins from the Community Policing Unit they had received a number of concerned calls from parents of school children in recent months regarding drug dealers who were waiting outside local secondary schools targeting schoolkids. Two local athletes are continuing to defy father time with both putting in outstanding performances at last weekend’s European Masters Indoor Championships in Ancona, Italy. Brian Lynch and Geraldine Finnegan who are both members of the North East Runners club came back from Italy with five medals between them with Brian claiming gold in both the 1500m and 3000m and Geraldine claiming gold, silver and bronze for the Heptathlon, 60m hurdle and high jump respectively.
