THEY say that cats have nine lives, but one lucky Dundak dog is closing in on that target after being rescued for a second time in a matter of months. When Rosie the lurcher dog was stolen in February, many feared the worst, but this particular story was to have a happy ending thanks to an observant member of the public. As a result, Rosie, who was the subject of a huge campaign to secure her safe return, was reunited with her carers at the Louth SPCA, who are now determined to get a new permanent home for her. The saga began on the night of February 8/9 when the dog was stolen during a break-in at the Louth SPCA

Shelters in Walsterstown. Fiona Squibb, an inspector with the Louth SPCA, revealed that the devastated staff launched an immediate campaign through the media and posters which stated that she had been micro-chipped and neutered. “That really curtailed attempts to move her as we had posters everywhere and the appeal was shared across Ireland, England, Scotland,” stated Fiona. In the end the answer to the mystery lay much closer to home as a Rosie, who is still under a year old, was recovered from a house in Dundalk thanks to information from a member of the public. “I think in the end it was Rosie’s fame that saved her. statue of St Patrick as an attraction in this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade. The 34 transition year students along with their art teachers, Linda

Bailey and Alice Collins, collected all the materials themselves to make the statue when they began in January of this year. Full Story Page 21
