A local couple caught up in the Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting terror have spoken of their relief at surviving the frightening experience. Pat and Marie Hamilton from Blackrock were ready to return home from a Christmas break in Florida on Friday afternoon when a gunman opened fire in the crowded terminal. Five people were killed and at least eight others suffered gunshot injuries, while dozens more were hurt in the chaos that followed. The Dundalk couple returned home on Tuesday morning and while they were shaken by the ordeal, they are counting their blessings that they survived to tell the tale. “It was a frightening experience as you just don’t expect

The 2017 Young Scientist and Technology exhibition kicks off today at the RDS and Dundalk will be represented by three local schools at the ever-popular annual showcase. Dundalk schools have a long proud history in this event and once again there are some fantastically innovative projects being put up for selection by some of the town’s brightest students. Eleven different projects have been submitted by students from St Vincent’s Secondary School, Bush Post Primary School and Dundalk Grammar School. See pages 13 & 14
