For too many years the north end of town has been left behind, abandoned and excluded from improvement works with many of the properties on Bridge Street in particular falling into disrepair and dereliction. However, all of that is about to change with the announcement that €7.49m will be allocated to the St Nicholas Quarter and Backlands Regeneration Scheme. The project will aim to reinvigorate St Nicholas Quarter with Bridge St. and Linenhall St. in particular set to be transformed thanks to a project which will help stimulate the development of high-quality higher density residential schemes and a rejuvenated urban quarter. Local reps speak out against online abuse The level of online abuse against public figures is on the rise with many councillors and politicians reporting higher volumes of nasty personalised attacks from people who can seemingly write what they want without fear of punishment from behind the safety of their phones or laptops. Three local representatives have spoken to the Dundalk Leader to describe their experiences of online trolling/abuse and what they would do if anything to try and solve this ever increasing problem. Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick says he refuses to give these ‘keyboard warriors’ a platform by acknowledging them and would much rather somebody debate any issues they have with him face to face.
