Louth heroes of the past and present were honoured over a memorable June Bank Holiday Weekend. On the same day that Queen Medb and her Táin March warriors arrived in Dundalk another band of local legends returned from battle having slain Sligo in Croke Park to capture the Lory Meagher Cup. Diarmuid McCarthy’s Senior Louth hurling team have been in scintillating form in recent months and they got reward for their hard work and dedication as they completed a miraculous comeback to beat Sligo with three goals in the final three minutes to stun the Westerners who had been ten points clear at half time. A second half comeback by Louth left just two points in it with four minutes remaining but it looked to be game over as Sligo scored their fourth

goal to make it a five point game. However, this Louth side do not know when they are beaten and as Sligo wilted in the midday sun the Wee County came on strong with Liam Dwan, Andrew Mackin and captain Shane Callan scoring three goals in as many minutes to seal a remarkable victory for Diarmuid McCarthy’s charges. Meanwhile, Louth legends of the past were celebrated in fitting style over the Bank Holiday Weekend when the Táin March Festival 2016 came to a conclusion in Omeath. John Creedon was there with RTE cameras filming for his upcoming series, Creedon’s Epic East. Children from St Laurence’s NS, Ardaghy NS and Mullaghbouy NS, wore their colourful costumes and performed as part of Queen Medb’s army or Cuchulainn’s warriors. Continued on pages 2 & 4
