A man in his 30s is recovering after he was the victim of a horrific attack by thugs who broke into his home in broad daylight. In what is the latest in a number of similar attacks, the man suffered burn injuries on his arm following an aggravated burglary in Cox’s Demesne last Thursday (May 2nd). Two masked men entered his house at approximately 12.25pm and demanded he give them money. When this request was refused the two masked men proceeded to punch the man on his head before pouring petrol on his arm and lighting it. They put it out and relit it a number of times while continuing to
demand money from the man. After a short period the two men eventually left the house empty handed. The victim of the attack was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospitals with minor burn injuries. A press release from the Gardaí confirmed that no arrests have been made yet and enquiries are ongoing. “Gardaí attended at the scene of an aggravated burglary at a house in the Cox’s Demense area of the town at approximately 12.25pm. It’s understood two masked men entered the house and threatened and assaulted the occupant of the house, a man in his 30s. The two left the house empty handed. See Page 2
