She may be only three years old but little Allie Murnaghan has already achieved what millions of girls around the world dream of as she took to the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week last weekend.

Allie attended the glitzy and glamorous fashion show with her mother Stacey having been asked to model a range of children’s clothes by UK designer Debbie Holden.

Allie, from the Avenue Road, has been attracting the attention of numerous Irish, UK and American designers through her Instagram page where her mother posts photos up regularly. According to Stacey, Allie has been modelling clothes for a number of months now and loves when a new package arrives full of new gear to try on.

“What started out as just

me putting up pictures of Allie on Instagram has snowballed into her having 9000 followers and a number of children’s designers contacting us offering her clothes to model for their catalogues.

Allie gets to keep the clothes free of charge and she loves the whole experience of putting on all these lovely new clothes and getting her photograph taken,” explained Stacey.

“Back at the beginning of February we were asked by UK designer Debbie Holden if Allie would be available to model her clothes during Paris Fashion Week. We actually couldn’t believe it and Allie was so excited as she couldn’t wait to try on the new clothes and meet new friends in Paris. whole month practising her poses and her walk and we travelled over last weekend with Allie’s two grannies and her aunty.

“It was such an amazing experience over there and the hotel where the fashion show

was on was so exclusive. It was great to see what goes on behind the scenes and how busy the models are. Allie did really well and Debbie was delighted with her.

She was a bit star-struck in the beginning with all the cameras and lights

but she was fine after a little while and ended up having great fun on the catwalk,” stated Stacey.

“At the minute she adores what she is doing but as a parent I’m fully aware that could change anytime. There is no

pressure on her at all and as soon as she stops enjoying it that will be the end of it. To see your daughter take part in the biggest and most famous fashion show in the world is something I’ll remember for a long time,” she added.

Current Louth Rose, Megan Ferguson has just returned from an emotional volunteering trip to Belarus with Adi Roche and Chernobyl Children International.

The 19-year-old from Carlingford, was accompanied by 17 of her fellow roses including the 2016 Rose of Tralee Maggie McEldowny.

The Roses stayed in the Vesnova Children’s Mental Asylum where 170 of the young victims of the Chernobyl nuclear tragedy that happened 30 years ago have been institutionalised. Many of the children are still being born with horrific deformities and other

Town gets ready for parade

With only two weeks until St. Patrick’s Day, preparations are being made for the biggest parade Dundalk has ever seen. With a “Team Dundalk” theme, the sporting achievements of the Dundalk community will be highlighted. As well as Paralympics medal winner Eve McCrystal, the parade will show off the achievements of other sporting and community groups with a wholly separate float.

Sports and community clubs across the town, have been greatly encouraged to take with them any medals or trophies that they might own. Representatives of charity organisations around the town will also be featured on the second “Team Dundalk” float, being honoured for their important role alongside sporting teams.

The parade will take off at about 1pm, and will take place during the entire thoroughfare.

The events surrounding the parade, however, will still be tak-

ing place long after the parade is over. The Family Fun Zone and the market area of the square are also separate, but important events. The wristbands at the Family Fun Zone come at great value, with a €6 wristband giving free access to all amusements and rides for children.

The wristbands will be available for purchase in the days leading up to March 17. Registration for any club, business, or group, is open until the deadline on Friday March 10.

Redeemer NS celebrates National Book Week Redeemer girls brought their favourite book characters to life last Thursday as both students and teachers celebrated World Book Day. World Book Day encourages children to enjoy new authors and books, and is celebrated in schools, libraries, homes, and bookstores all over the globe.

From Lisa Simpson to The Cat in the Hat, characters and authors were brought to life in all classrooms and according to the Redeemer Girls principal Patrick O’Rourke, the children and parents did themselves proud with their fine efforts.

“The girls seem to come up with better costumes each year

and there really is some fantastic efforts again this year. The amount of time and effort they have put in is a credit to themselves and their parents. We also have our wonderful teachers getting in on the act this year and they too have put together some fantastic costumes to help us celebrate World Book Day here in the school,” stated Patrick.

“I think it has never been more important to promote the art of book reading given how much competition children face these days between computers, phones and TV. We’ve stretched it out to a week-long celebration of books here in the school and we have had author stud-

ies, library visits, spelling bees, book reading workshops and all sorts going on.

“Reading skills are hugely important and a good book will activate the imagination of a child and give them the clarity in their minds to express themselves properly. Even with their costumes we asked parents not to buy them but to make them and use their imaginations using whatever they find around the house to create something.

It’s like the old saying ‘Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime’. Instilling a love for books to children at this age is vitally important in my view.

Man was refused entry to nightclub

A man who was refused entry to a nightclub ended up being arrested after he became abusive to security staff.

As a result, Ciaran Irwin, with an address at 45 St Patricks Park, Cullyhanna, was ordered to pay £200stg when he pleaded guilty to public order charges at Dundalk District Court.

The court heard that on February 5 this year, Gardai observed door staff restraining the defendant at 12.55am. Officers were told that he was refused entry and had become verbally abusive and aggressive before being restrained for the safety of security staff.

He became abusive to Gardai and

when asked for his name he told them to f*** off and said he would not give his name. The court heard that Mr Irwin had eight previous convictions for public order.

Solicitor, Niall Breen, stated that the 29-year-old man was originally from Cullyhanna and now working in England as a pipe layer. He had been out with a friend and had too much to drink before being refused entry to a nightclub.

He apologised for his actions and made an attempt to call the Garda to apologise.

Judge Gerard Haughton ordered him to pay €200 for the Garda Benevolent Fund as he dismissed the case under the Probation Act.

Louth to host ladies football annual congress News

Ladies football in Louth has been honoured after being selected to host the Ladies Gaelic Football Annual Congress next year.

Delegates from across Ireland and from England, Scotland, Australia and New York will also attend the congress on Friday March 1, 2018, at a venue yet to be confirmed.

The Congress, lasting three days, will commence on Friday at 8pm, the event will run all day Saturday, finishing

Sunday morning, and will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Louth Ladies Co Board.

It is the first time that the congress ever took place in Louth and held off tough competition from Dublin, Meath, and Kildare to host the congress. This was due to two men who were widely respected within the association across the country. Central Council delegate Pat Carr, and Louth chairman Dermot Woods., with the latter addressing this year’s congress

in Donegal.

“It was Leinster’s turn and we felt that it was appropriate that we got to host it on our 25th anniversary”, stated Mr Woods who is now in his third term as chairman.

“Louth Ladies Football is in a better place than 25 years ago, upon its founding. After a disappointing start, the adult team is in a good position in the table, having won two of their last four games. We have a very young team who will get better with time and will benefit from a strong manage-

ment team led by former Dublin hero John O’Leary” said the Malachi’s clubman.

Two years ago Louth won the Junior All-Ireland title under the guidance of Meath native Martin Connolly, after overcoming Scotland in the final.

“We’ve had great players and some very good people working with teams down the years and it took a lot of hard work and commitment from a lot of people to take us where we are today`’, concluded the Louth Chairman.

Dundalk Brass Band celebrate 40 years in parade

The St Patrick’s Day Parade is almost upon us and once again the Dundalk Brass Band will be in attendance to entertain the crowds as they have been doing since way back in 1977.

The Brass Band were formed in November 1976 by a group of local people with a shared interest in music. The group were anxious that Dundalk should have a town worthy of traditions of quality and achievement associated with the area.

Just four months later the brass band played their very first St Patrick’s Day Parade and having proved to be a very popular addition to the event they have played in every parade

since. When the band take their place at the square for next week’s parade there are six band members who can boast a proud record of playing in every event since that first appearance in 1977.

According to Mickey

Kelly who is a drummer with the band there is something for everybody in their repertoire.

“When the band started back in 1976 they used to just really play marching tunes but they’ve evolved with the times and although

we still play marching tunes we also play some old and modern stuff and play medleys which has a bit of something for everybody.

“I only joined the band last year but I have really enjoyed my time playing with them and they are a great bunch of people who are involved.

“There are still five or six of them who have been involved since the band first appeared at the St Patrick’s Day parade forty years ago,” explained Mickey.

‘Tough Enough’ Challenge for Charity

Dundalk Thai Boxing have teamed up with O’Hanlon Park Boxing Club to create an event in aid of charity that brings the concept of white collar boxing to the next level.

The UFC has become increasingly popular in Ireland in the wake of the successes of people like Conor McGregor, however cage fighting can take a very long time to learn and can be quiet brutal so as a bridge between white collar boxing and UFC style cage fighting they have created the ‘Tough Enough Challenge’ which incorporates the stand up elements of UFC style fighting but with an emphasis on safety.

Brian Gallagher of Dundalk Thai Boxing and Paul Taaffe of O’Hanlon Park Boxing Club are behind the event which is designed to raise funds for ‘Rainbow Ireland’ which is a free service for children and young people who have been affected by loss because of bereavement, separation or divorce.

The event takes place in the Ramada Hotel and 12 weeks of training is provided by fully qualified instructors. Judge Gerard Haughton stated that if €200 was paid to the Garda Benevolent Fund by May 24 he would apply the Probation Act. He told Mr Duffy’s father that it was the defendant’s responsibility to pay the money.

Cyclist refused to co-operate with Gardai A man who refused to co-operate with Gardai claimed that because he spoke very little English he was unable to understand fully what was being asked of him. As a result, Tomas Sukys, of 132 Castleross, Castletown Road, Dundalk, pleased guilty to imped-

ing a Garda following the incident on October 11 last year.

The court heard that on that date, Mr Sukys, was observed cycling on Castletown Road. When Gardai approached him he began acting nervously and then put an item in his mouth and

swallowed it before telling Gardai it was heroin.

The defendant had 14 previous convictions but none for drugs offences.

Solicitor, Barry Callan, stated that his client became very nervous after being followed by Gardai and because he speaks very little English he didn’t understand what they required.

He added that the Lithuanian national had been in Ireland for five years but struggled with addiction after finding it difficult to get work.

The 43-year-old lives with his partner and 12-year-old child.

Judge Gerard Haughton imposed a €150 fine.

A man who told Dundalk District Court that he was no longer using cannabis, later accepted that if ordered to provide a urine sample it would contradict the claim.

Gavin Mulligan of 38 Bridal Hill, Warrenpoint, Newry, stated that he had only experimented with the drug for medicinal purposes to help ease the pain of a kidney condition, and that he was no longer using it.

However, when asked

by Judge Gerard Haughton if a urine sample would confirm this assertion, he stated that it wouldn’t.

As a result, the judge imposed a conviction and €100 fine, but stated that had the defendant been honest he would have been more lenient.

Solicitor, Barry Callan, stated that the 41-year-old had been diagnosed with a serious kidney problem that had effectively ended his life. The father of three was unable to work, and had been experimenting with the drug to deal with the pain. He stated his client informed him that he was no longer taking the drug.

Man robbed at knifepoint Repeal while walking to work Gardai are investigating an incident where a man was robbed at knifepoint while walking to work.

At 5.30am on Wednesday March 1 the man was walking on Castletown Road when he was approached by a male on a bicycle. He produced

a knife and demanded money. The victim had no money but his bag was taken.

The cyclist was described as being of slim build, in his 20s andwearing dark clothing.

More quality acts coming to The Spirit Store The quality live acts continue in the Spirit Store this week, starting on Thursday night, March 9 with Barry J Hughes + Greg Clifford + Ian N.Brennan downstairs free at 9pm.

In a world and industry steeped in clutter and superfluity, Brennan, Clifford and Hughes will opt for acoustic performances that focus on intimacy, honesty and purity.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT IS IMPORTANT

Your vehicle’s suspension setup plays an important role in the way that your tyre meets the road or ground and can be a major factor in the longevity, fuel consumption and through life performance of your tyres while driving. The normal wheel alignment on most vehicles has been setup to minimize wear and maximize passenger comfort.

Suspension misalignment may cause rapid and irregular wear of your tyres, which ultimately affects their performance, the safety of your vehicle and can result in you having to change tyres earlier than is typically expected.

Suspension that is just 2mm out of alignment per wheel will result in each tyre on a 15” wheel being forced to cover the equivalent of an extra 28 feet laterally per mile.

To correctly align your vehicle’s wheels and suspension you need to set the perfect amount of toe in / toe out and camber.

A specialist can do this by accurately adjusting the camber, caster and toe of your vehicles suspension.

Camber is the angle that the wheel is set from the vertical position when viewed from the front of the vehicle. If the wheel leans in or out too far, then the point that the tyre makes contact with the road can change, resulting in uneven tyre wear.

There are two types of camber, positive camber and negative camber.

Positive camber - when the top of the wheel leans away from the car. Too much positive camber will result in excessive wear of the outside edge of the tyres.

Negative camber - when the wheel leans in towards the car, you have negative camber. In this scenario you will experi-

ence excess wear on the inside edge of the tyre.

Adjusting Toe: Toe represents the direction in which the wheels are pointing relative to the centre line (or straight ahead). The toe settings dictate vehicle handling characteristics and its straight line stability when driving.

Toe-in - when the front of the wheels are closer together than the rear of the wheels on the same axle. Too much toe-in will result in extra tyre wear on the outside edges of the tread. You may also notice a feathered type of wear of the tyre treads.

Toe-out - when the rear of the wheels are closer together than the front of the wheels on the same axle. If your car is set up with too much toe-out you will notice excess wear on the inside of the tyres. A similar sort of feathered wear will occur.
