Ruth Copas, a former No 1 junior in Irish tennis from Dundalk is gearing up for the opportunity of a lifetime having just signed a four year scholarship contract with the University of New Mexico women’s tennis team. Eighteen year old Ruth is currently studying for her Leaving Certificate at Dundalk Grammar School and departs for the USA in August, just after the junior ITF World ranking event which is being held for the first time in Dundalk Tennis Club. According to Ruth the opportunity to compete at such a high level was too good to turn down and she can’t wait to get started and test herself

Lights issue raises concerns over Garda numbers By Eunan Whyte Problems with the traffic lights at the Xerox Junction have led to concerns over the number of Gardai available in Dundalk. Cllr Tomas Sharkey expressed his concern after it emerged that Gardai didn’t have the manpower to direct traffic at the junction following two days of chaos last week. The Sinn Fein councillor revealed that the incident also highlighted the need for work to be done on the lights and also the lack of information being released by Louth County Council. “The background to the issue was that there was an initial traffic accident that damaged a cable resulting in the lights not working.
