PARENTS and children have been warned to be on the alert after reports emerged of a suspicious approach made to juveniles in Dundalk on Monday. The incident occurred in the Tom Bellew Avenue area around 4.30pm. The children were approached by a man in a black Ford Fiesta, who offered to give them biscuits if they got into the back seat. The children, aged between eight and nine declined the offer before reporting the incident to their parents, and it is understood that Gardai were alerted. Louth County councillor Maeve Yore described the incident as ‘frightening’ and warned parents to be vigilant to the dangers of inci-
dents like this. “It’s frightening to hear of something like this happening. I have an 11 year old girl myself and I shudder to think what might happen if somebody asked her to get into a car. I live close to where the incident happened and hearing stuff like this really does frighten and shock me”, said Maeve. “Unfortunately due to Government cuts there are probably not enough Gardaí on the streets at the moment and I feel a greater Garda presence may deter incidents like this happening”, added the councillor. Sinn Fein councillor, Kevin Meenan, also expressed his concerns regarding the incident and suggested it may be a good idea for Gardaí to visit schools Continued on Page 16
