Athletics track dream moves a step closer

Athletics clubs around Dundalk will find out next month if their ambitious plans to build an athletics track in town can proceed. Six athletics clubs (St Peters A.C, Mountpleasant A.C, Blackrock A.C, St Gerards A.C, Dún Dealgan A.C and the NorthEast Runners) formed together in recent months to create a limited company under the name of Dundalk Athletics Association and alongside DKIT and Louth County Council they have drawn up plans and submitted an application for a Sports Capital Grant. The company have applied for a €200,000 grant and should they be successful they have earmarked a nine-acre site between the JJB Sportsdome and Heinz to build the track on. According to Fintan Reilly, member of Blackrock Athletics club and also chairman of the newly formed Dundalk Athletics Association, the new track will meet the criteria to hold international Full story on Page 9
