Dundalk boxing sensation Amy Broadhurst was forced to settle for bronze at last weekend’s European Women’s Elite Championships in Madrid, Spain. Amy defeated highly rated Russian Anastasia Beliakova to guarantee herself at least a bronze medal but fell short against experienced Finn Mika Potkonen at the semi-final stage. Potkonen is well known to Irish boxing fans as the fighter who defeated then reigning Olympic champion Katie Taylor at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Amy dropped a weight class to compete in the 60kg lightweight division after world champion Kellie Harrington was sidelined with a thumb injury. The Amy with parents Sheila and Tony and brother Paul.
