It was a weekend to remember for our local athletes with the Louth Ladies GAA team defeating Carlow in Dr Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon by 3-9 to 0-8. A day earlier in Sligo, Paralymic and Double World Champion, Eve McCrystal fulfilled a lifelong dream as she finally became

the National Road Race champion having collected either silver or bronze six times previously. The Louth Ladies victory was especially poignant given that their manager Micheál McKeown had passed away less than a month earlier. The Channonrock man had led Louth to the division 4 league final in his first year in charge

and was about to lead Louth into this year’s Leinster Junior Championship Semi-Final against Kilkenny when he took ill on the day of the match. He died in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda just 48 hours later. On a highly emotional day the Louth ladies team were determined to honour their manager by bringing the Jun-

ior Championship trophy back to Louth and despite a number of injuries in the panel stand in manager Darren Bishop led them to a comfortable 3-9 to 0-8 victory over Carlow. Niamh Rice who had just recently completed her Leaving Cert had a debut to remember as she scored 2-2 to help Louth claim the trophy. Continued on Page 2

Demand for water right across Louth continues to be high and as a result Irish Water, working in partnership with Louth County Council, have already imposed restrictions in the South of the County in Clogherhead and Termonfeckin. As the warm weather continues, the demands on water supplies is outstripping the supply in several areas around the country with increased demand at 10% above normal or more and homeowners in Dundalk and the northern part of the county have been warned not to be wasteful with their water Continued on Page 2
