Hard up council should chase €1m By Paul Byrne
Louth County Council are owed ‘the guts of €1m’ from the developers of the derelict Ard Dealgan apartments and aren’t doing nearly enough to try and recoup back the money according to a local Sinn Fein councillor. Cllr Jennifer Green has compared efforts to try and find out more information with regards to what the council are doing to try and get in touch with developer Tom McFeely as like ‘trying to walk through a brick wall’. The Ard Dealgan complex on Quay St, which contains 73 empty apartments, has remained unoccupied since 2009 when 30 tenants were evacuated by the council due to safety concerns. Since then the apartments
have been taking over by squatters and drug users and have deteriorated year by year causing a major nuisance for Quay St and Barrack St residents who are afraid to let their children anywhere near the dilapidated eyesore. With Louth County Council manager Joan Martin recently warning councillors not to ask for money for certain projects due to a lack of funding available, Cllr Green has asked why the local authority hasn’t pursued the money owed to them more vigorously. “We are constantly being told by the council that there is a funding shortage and there is not enough money to help different projects get off the ground so for me it seems Continued on Page 10
