Dundalk jockey hits the big time

A Dundalk jockey is the new sensation of the horse-racing world after his performances in the saddle have brought him to the attention of some of the biggest organisations in racing.

Shane Gray, who is just 18, hit the headlines last week when he rode three winners at Lingfield, which consolidated his position as leading apprentice jockey on the flat in England.

The young man from from Cedarwood Park in Cox’s Demesne has made a significant impact in England since moving to Kevin Ryan’s stable last year and aside from being the leading apprentice, he has come to the attention of the top names in recent months having ridden winners for Qatar Racing and Godolphin, two of the biggest organisations in racing.

Shane’s talent for riding is definitely in the genes as his older brother, Stephen, is also a jockey based in Edward O’Grady’s yard in Tipperary.

Lisa is chasing dream job

The 24-year-old aspiring comedian from Ard Easmuinn has reached the final in this year’s Budweiser Dream Job competition.

“I’ve always loved comedy but it took me a couple of years to build up the courage to do stand-up”, said Lisa.

“It was very hard to get gigs when I first started out but I kept working at it. I try to be a bit different and work hard at it.”

The former St Louis student has already won an equipment bursary of €2,000 and she is also in with the chance to win a €50,000 prize fund to pursue her dream job.

We all know that these events can be very expensive. The pressure of trying to make the day special for your family can result in a lot of stress.

Here we offer some simple tips to make the experience more enjoyable for you and your family and avoid some of the stress. Some planning and thinking ahead may make all the difference.

• Make a list early in the year of what you might need to buy. Remember it is not just the child you have to think about all the family.

• Check the prices of items already in the shops • Fill out the attached Budget Sheet. Add up the total cost and ask yourself – Can I afford it?

If not, then think again.

• Check shops for sales and reductions. Many shops offer a weekly payment option. Are there any dresses/suits in your family that can be used? Check online. Many Irish buyand-sell websites offer top quality products at great prices.

• Are there any ways you can reduce the entertainment cost? Can you pool your resources with a family member or friend who perhaps is also celebrating on the day? Have something at home instead of going out?

• Now revise your Budget Sheet Saving Tips for the Day Once you know how much you will need to spend on the day, you can now look at how you need to save for the big day.

• Check the calendar to see how many weeks are left until you need to buy the important items on your list, • How much will you need to save each week to buy the items on your list?

Example If you need €400 and it is 15 weeks to your shopping trip, divide 400 by 15 - €400/15= €26.66 – therefore, you need to save per week. Can you spare €26.66 from your weekly income? If not go back to the drawing board – cut the list again!

• Put the money you need to save away each week some place where you do not have easy access to it, i.e. a savings account in a post office, credit union or bank.

A Dundalk man who was angry after his windows were broken, came to the attention of Gardai for the manner of his driving when he chased the culprit.

As a result, John McGinley of 6 Assumption Place, Dundalk, appeared at Dundalk District Court where he pleaded guilty to five charges of dangerous driving on June 21, 2014.

Insp Yvonne Murphy stated that on Castetown Road at 5.40pm on that date, Gardai attempted to stop and speak to Mr McGinely in relation to an earlier incident. He didn’t stop and drove off, mounting a footpath in order to escape.

Gardai activated their lights and siren but the driver accelerated onto Bridge St, narrowly

missing a cyclist, as he travelled at 80kph in a 30kph zone. He continued to Maxwells Row and St Nicholas Ave where he crashed into the front of the patrol car before driving off. It was stated that there were children playing in the area at the time.

The defendant, who has 31 previous convictions, was subsequently arrested at Assumption Place.

Barrister, Irene Sands, stated that the 35-year-old separated man had no excuse for his previous track record or for these offences.

She added that he held his hands up to these offences and that he was lucky that he didn’t cause any injury to Gardai or members of the public.

“Before this incident a man had broken John McGinley’s windows and he chased him which led to the Gardai chasing him. He should have stopped”, added Ms Sands who stated that this was not an excuse but a backdrop to the events.

She continued to state that the father of two was at risk of jail as he had a deplorable track record, but asked the court to consider Community Service.

Judge Deirdre Gearty stated that she would adjourn the case to get a figure for the damage caused to the patrol car and that she expected the defendant to pay this. The case was put back to April 22 when the judge stated the option of Community Service would be considered.

Shed members are learning new tricks

By Paul Byrne Members of Dundalk’s ‘Men’s Sheds’ continue to disprove the theory that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks as they were presented with their QQI Level 3 ceramics certificates.

The group partook in the QQI Level 3 Ceramics course which was funded by LMETB community education service and were presented their certificates for this as part of the AONTAS adults learner’s festival 2015.

Sinead Fearon from LMETB and Eva Beirne from the Netwell Centre were on hand to give out the certificates and congratulate each member of the group on passing the course.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to explore aspects of craft and to develop sensitivity to materials and craft skills under supervision.

Each member of the group displayed great

skill and dedication throughout the course to ensure they received their certificates.

A presentation ceremony was held in the Men’s Shed’s last Friday morning as the members of the Shed celebrated the AONTAS adult learner’s festival.

Peter Gray, chairman of the Dundalk Men’s Shed thanked both Eva and Sinead for their great help in organising the course and noted that everybody who took part in it enjoyed it immensely.

The Dundalk Men’s Shed is located in Seatown and was the first of the Louth Community Men’s Sheds established in September 2011, followed by the sheds in Drogheda, the Cooley Peninsula and including the Ardee allotment.

The men’s shed offers a safe, friendly and inclusive environment where men are able to gather together, chat, relax, work on projects at their own pace, in their own time, in the company of other men.

Dundalk is set to turn purple this month as a local woman has launched a campaign to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society.

Orla Crilly came up with the idea to “Turn Dundalk Purple” on Friday March 12 as part of the nationwide, Shave or Dye initiative and she is calling on local people to get involved and raise money through sponsorship.

The mother of six from Pearse Park has enlisted the help of local hairdressers and barbers and is encouraging people from the town to have their hair dyed purple.

mother to breast cancer 18 years ago, initially intended just getting her own hair dyed but was encouraged to get others to join in.

“I have six kids from one to 18 and when I suggested that we all do it, they agreed. Then a friend suggested I should

get others involved and when Karen in Chaplins said she would get behind the idea, it just took off from there.

“I wanted to do something because I lost my mother Vera Crilly to breast cancer and she was well known around town from having the

Sunshine Bar and Wisemans. I put up the idea on facebook and already 40 people have signed up, including Cllr Declan Breathnach, while ten hairdressers and barbers have agreed to do it free of charge”, explained Orla.

Hospitality students cook up a storm at Chef Ireland

Hospitality students represented DKIT in Chef Ireland 2015 with great success at the RDS last week when they took part in a range of competitions held over three days. These competitions offer the students a chance to showcase their creativity while competing against their peers from other colleges and also professional industry chefs.

Stefan McEnteer won gold for best in class in the Junior Pasta competition to set the standard for the DKIT team for the week long competition. This is one of the most prestigious student competitions and was a super achievement as Stefan competed against peers from the other Institutes in the country.

One of the showcase events for Chef Ireland 2015 was the College Team Competition. In this classic ‘cook serve’ competition, a team of three chefs and two service students cook and serve 12 portions of a three-course meal to in-

vited guests. With everything prepared from scratch and teamwork being a vital component, the DKIT secured a silver medal. This was a great achievement and reflected all the time and effort the students and their lecturing team put into the training. The student team was Emma Holles, Stefan Mc Enteer, Ryan Carolan, Aishling Begley and Andrew Reddan.

Ryan Carolan also secured bronze for his cold soufflé competition which showcased the specialised art of pastry.

Not to be outdone by their 2nd year counterparts, 1st year Culinary Arts students Katie Coffey and Olivia O Neill produced a beautiful range of cupcakes and were highly commended for their efforts with certificates of merit.

The students were as-

sisted along the way by their tutors Rosemarie Leonard, Aidan Hoare and Alan McCabe as well as receiving input from the wider Hospitality team in DKIT. A special note of congratulations to past Culinary Arts student Garreth Carberry.

Currently the head chef in Clontarf Castle, he secured 2 gold, 1 silver medal and best in class in the mystery basket competition.

Woman became upset after being blocked in car park A woman who became upset at being blocked into a car park space reacted by scraping the paint on the vehicle that was in her way.

Angela Smith of 8 Fernwood, Red Barns Road, Dundalk, caused damage estimated at €900 during the incident at the Avenue Inn, Greenacres, Dundalk,

on March 13, 2013.

As a result, she pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage when she appeared at Dundalk District Court where

she avoided a conviction after the case was struck out when compensation was paid.

Solicitor, Dermot Lavery, stated that on the day in question, his client panicked and her actions resulted from her becoming unreasonably distressed.

Sacha meets Mary Robinson It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for Sacha Munnelly, a Junior Cert student at St Vincent’s Secondary School, Dundalk when she met the former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson in Ballina, last week Sacha, from Blackrock, was visiting family relatives in Mayo during her midterm break with her parents Eileen and Michael when she got the opportunity to meet Mary Robinson at the official launch of her new exhibition ‘Giving Voice’ in Ballina Library on Saturday February 21.

The exhibition contains a vast and priceless collection of documents and artefacts from Mary Robinson’s career which she has now gifted to the people of Mayo.

Creative Spark promote arts and well-being Creative Spark will be participating in the month long series of events taking place in Louth to promote Arts and Well Being in the county.

On March 10 and 12 men and women from Rehab Care will roll up their sleeves for some pulping and print making at the Creative Spark centre.

Under the theme “A Feast of Words” the group will create a printed work of art to be displayed at the centre from March 13 to 20 and all are welcome to visit.

This is art with a differ-

ence as the group will make their own paper from scratch with pulp made from recycled materials – and a few tasty ingredients thrown into the mix.

They will then transform their group piece with vibrant screen print designs in Creative Spark’s fine art print studio. Sophie Coyle and Heather Cassidy will deliver the workshops and visitors to the exhibition can expect to take a souvenir home with them. The exhibition will be open from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Dundalk Leader 4th March 2015 St. Vincent’s Debating team achieved great success recently when they competed in the Leinster Finals of the Knights of St. Columbanus Public Speaking Competition.

The talented trio of Aine Kelly, Ciara McLoughlin and Aoife O’Malley competed against Dublin schools Mount Sackville and Loretto College to reach the National Final on March 7 in the RDS. Their topic for the event was ‘Tweeting the Gospel, a new opportunity for the Church’ and the girls developed their speeches with the help of the co-ordinator Victoria O’Hagan. They will also compete in the Debating Science competition.

Stole bicycle on his birthday

A man who took a cocktail of prescription drugs on his birthday stole a bicycle from outside a shopping centre and was fined €250 at Dundalk District Court.

Kieran Kearney of 17 Chlann Chulainn Park, Farndreg, Dundalk, who is currently serving a sentence, pleaded guilty to offence on June 23, last year.

- The court heard that at 5.45pm oon that date, a woman parked her bicycle at the stand outside Long

Walk Shopping Centre. The accused walked through the centre and took the bike.

Barrister, James Egan, stated that the date of the offence was his client’s 24th birthday and he had taken a cocktail of prescription drugs.

He immediately admitted his guilt to Gardai when questioned and is ashamed of his actions. He made efforts to recover the bike but couldn’t do so. He added that

the defendant had been in custody since October 23 last year and was dealing with his drug problem, while engaging with a psychotherapist and psychiatrist in Wheatfield Prison. He is also doing Fetac Level 1 course.

Judge Deirdre Gearty stated that given his efforts in prison she would not add to his sentence and imposed a fine, payable forthwith, or 15 days in default.

Ciaran makes Aussie debut

Louth Village man Ciarán Byrne made his senior Aussie Rules debut last weekend as he lined out with Carlton with fellow Irishmen Zach Tuohy and Ciaran Sheehan.

20 year old Ciarán signed a two year deal with Melbourne based AFL side Carlton in August 2013 before making his debut for the developmental side (Northern Blues) last April. However , having impressed coaches in recent weeks Byrne was picked to make his senior debut last weekend against West Coast Eagles.

Despite Carlton’s 7847 defeat stand in coach Rob Wiley predicted that the experience of

playing against a senior team would stand Ciaran in great stead for the future.

“Overall, it’s a great experience for these young kids coming up and the intensity at the next level is just a fair bit higher.

“Ciaran Byrne played his first game. He’s only into his second year in Australia so that’s a

great learning curve for him.”

Meanwhile Ciarán himself reflected on a satisfactory debut while speaking of his excitement at making his debut for the senior team alongside his fellow Irishmen.

“Finally I got to put on the navy blue jumper, and what a feeling it was”, noted the former St Mochtas man.

“I feel like all the hard work is beginning to pay off. My first year at the club was spent developing and learning the game, transition year some might call it, this year is hopefully my breakthrough year.

“My first game against West Coast was all I expected it to be- fast, physical and extremely intense. I was a bit dis-

appointed with my performance but it’s good to get the first game out of the way.

“Playing alongside the two Irish boys Ciaran and Zach just made the occasion 10 times more special. It was a moment I’ve been waiting for ever since we arrived at the club and fingers crossed it’s the first of many senior games for us.

“My hopes for 2015 are to keep developing myself as a player and to play consistent football in the Victorian football league (VFL) which will put me in selection to play as much senior (AFL) football as I can this year. Life Down Under is going well at the minute, may it continue”, concluded Ciaran.

Busy time for Fane Bridge Macra Fane Bridge Macra na Feirme members have had a fantastic few months with lots more to look forward to in the coming weeks.

The club hosted a very successful Table Quiz in Cluskeys of Little Ash last Friday night which was extremely well supported by both Macra members and non Macra members alike.

The night certainly generated a lot of interest with a number of people joining up on the night.

The winning team was headed up by Eamonn Cassells of Athboy Macra who is a candidate in the forthcoming Macra Presidency Race.

Fane Bridge Macra would like to extend a special word of thanks to Cluskeys Bar for looking after everyone so well on the night as always.

It was an exciting night for the club as after fighting off stiff competition from the other Louth Macra na Feirme branches, Fane Bridge Macra newcomer, Emma McGuinness was selected to represent the county at the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival during the June Bank Holiday weekend. The Festival has a jam packed line up with something for everyone and Fane Bridge members are already looking forward to the weekend.

On the competition front, Fane Bridge members are representing the wee county in both the men and ladies competition at the NDC Indoor Soccer Final being held

this weekend. The club are also representing the County at the final of the upcoming Kerrygold Club Question Time Quiz.

An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, has today (Thurs, Feb 26) officially opened Ireland’s first 1916 exhibition - ‘Birth of a Nation – the Evolution of Irish Nationhood, 1641-1916’ - at the County Museum in Dundalk.

Opening the exhibiton, An Taoiseach remarked that it ws the first in the country to celebrate the 1916 centenary.

“This exhibition allows us to find out more about the birth of our nation via the words, thoughts and possessions of those who were there.

Included here are names which are already firmly etched in our history books but also those who we are just beginning to find out about thanks to their families, friends and all those who have contributed artefacts to the County Museum here in Dundalk.

“This exhibition provides the ultimate inspiration for projects taking

Many of those who contributed items to the exhibition were in attendance, including relatives and friends of those involved in 1916 and the momentous events in the lead up to the Easter Rising.

Some of the key artefacts on show include an original 1916 Proclamation, handwritten documents by Patrick Pearse, WB Yeats and Roger Casement to name but a few.

Weaponry used over the centuries as well as uniforms, medals and other memorabilia are included along with perhaps most poignantly – letters sent from prison after the Easter Rising to the mothers of some of those being detained.

Brian Walsh described working on “Birth of a Nation – the Evolution of Irish Nationhood, 1641-1916’ as a privilege which allowed he and his colleagues a valuable opportunity.

Launch of St Patrick’s parade WE had a very successful and enjoyable launch of this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade on Thursday 26th Feb at An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk.

Dun Lughaidh secondary school will present an original production entitled ‘Back to the 80s’ next next week in what promises to be a treat for young and old.

Inspired by the music and fashion from the 80s the Transition Year students this original musical will run for three nights starting on Wednesday March 11 until March 13.

Elaine Byrne who is one of the three teachers involved in creating the musical has promised a brilliant night out for both young and old with a host of classic songs from the 80s included

“We’re currently working very hard on the production and we are looking forward to taking to the stage for our opening evening on March 11. There’s a

lot of work to be done with costumes and stage design but that’s all part of the fun and we’ll be all ready to go on the night”, promised Elaine.

“Myself, Kate O’Byrne and Marie

Meehan have been directing and guiding the girls and I have to say they’ve been very enthusiastic and eager. We hve all been busy for months rehearsing and putting together a set and everything else that

goes along with putting on a show like this. It’s a very lively production with some great music and both funny and touching scenes so hopefully all who attend will enjoy the show”, explained Elaine.

Lourdes Invalid Committee Fundraisers The Lourdes Invalid Committee will hold their annual fundraiser this weekend as they look to raise money to help bring assisted pilgrims to Lourdes in May. This Friday and Saturday members of the Lourdes Invalid Committee will be out in force around Dundalk where they will be bag-packing in the new Tesco, selling badges on the street as well

as having their annual bucket collections at various locations around Dundalk.

Mary Murphy who is part of the Lourdes Invalid Committee thanked the generous people of Dundalk for their continued generosity and hoped that their support would continue this year.

“Dundalk people have always supported our fundraisers and they have been

very generous over the years helping us to bring the sick over to Lourdes every May. “We feel it’s an important to note that all the helpers who go on the trip are unpaid and all money raised goes towards bringing sick or assisted pilgrims to Lourdes each year”, noted Mary.

“We feel it’s an important service as spiritually and medically it gives them

a great lift to go to Lourdes.

Back to the 80s is set in ‘William Ocean High School’ in America and charts the highs and lows of being a teenager in the 1980s. I would imagine they have just as good a chance as last year. I think they’ve got more or less the same squad of players as last year so there’s no reason why they can’t do it.

Of course they can.

They’ve got the best squad of players and a very good manager so I’d be confident that they can win it again.

It’s very hard to say. I’m from Dublin but I’m a Dundalk supporter now and would have followed them last season. We’ll know better in a few games time but hopefully they can do it.

Can they do it? Of course they can do it. They’ll win it this year and the year after that and the year after that as well. There’s no stopping this team.

It will be very very hard what with Rovers and Pats spending a lot of money and Cork looking to go one better than last year but I have full faith in this team and I know they can get the job done.

“Shane’s doing really well over in England and I watch as many of his races as I can.

Sometimes you’d see little things that you think he could be doing better and we talk on the phone and I try and give him a bit of advice if it’s needed. He is currently the leading apprentice in England which is a great achievement. Hope-

fully he will still be top by the end of the season.

“We’re both former All-Ireland Pony Riding Champions and for me I’ve always wanted to be a jockey for as long as I remember.

“Winning the Galway Hurdle and the Cork Grand National were highlights for me but since the recession things have got very quiet in Ireland and it can be very tough to get as many rides as you would like these days”, explained Stephen.

“It’s not an easy job and

you’re working around the yard or riding out horses seven days a week but you have to stick it out and hope you get a chance for a big ride to get you noticed”, he added.

Getting noticed is exactly what Shane is doing having recently ridden winners for horse racing giants Goldolphin and Qatar Racing. Shane and Stephen’s mother, Audrey, is proud of both her sons’ achievements and admits to getting very nervous when watching them in action.

“The two boys have always

wanted to be jockeys since they were both very young and it’s great to see them both making a go of it. I have to give a mention to the Kingston family in Drogheda who train and run horses.

“They gave the boys lots of help when they started out in the business and were instrumental in getting them to where they are today. I do watch them when they race but I always get nervous in case they have a bad fall. Thankfully there hasn’t been anything too bad so far”, noted Audrey.

Man had left his car parked in a dangerous position

A man who didn’t appear at Dundalk District Court to answer road traffic charges was fined a total of €350 after being found guilty of two offences.

The court heard that at 4.20am on May 24 last year, Gardai found a vehicle belonging to Darren Galligan of Drumass, Inniskeen, parked in a dangerous position at Tullycahan, Louth. There was no tax displayed.

The investigating Garda stated that it was the second occasion that Mr Galligan had failed to appear.

Judge Deirdre Gearty imposed a €100 fine for having no tax and €250 for the parking offence.

Students perform Finnegans Wake MOUTHS MAKING WATER, adapted and directed by Marc-Ivan O’Gorman, an award-winning filmmaker, theatre director and composer, from James Joyce’s challenging ‘Finnegans Wake’, will be performed by the final year students on the BA in Performing Arts on Wednesday March 4, Thursday 5 and Friday 6 in the MacAnna Theatre on the DKIT campus at 8pm.

As many who have attempted to read Ulysess will already know, James Joyce is considered one of the most difficult writers in the English language and his final novel, one he spent the bulk of the last two decades of his life writing, Finnegans Wake, is by far his most challenging work.

And so, it is a testament to the

ambition and bravery of the Creative Media department and the actors in the final year of the BA in Performing Arts to take on the challenge of transposing the immense rhythmic beauty of this text from the page to the stage.

The resulting production entitled; MOUTHS MAKING WATER, consists of compelling scenes and dreamlike images from the book, that in Joyce’s own words, attempts to “reconstruct the nocturnal life” and to “experiment in interpreting ‘the dark night of the soul’.

All are invited to attend and spend a short time exploring a story that one of our greatest writers spent half a life time creating and to remember that “every telling has a taling and that’s the he and the she of it”

The Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts in DKIT is a three-year full-time professional actor training programme which encourages students to become ‘intelligent actors’, who are versatile and adaptable and equipped with a variety of performance and transferable work skills.

This is the latest public performance from this exciting and talented group of award-year students who have come through this professional actor training programme & follows their very successful performance of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ last November.

Schools taking part in Féile Dhún Dealgan PUPILS and teachers throughout County Louth are eagerly preparing for Féile Dhún Dealgan, the annual Irish language Scoildrámaíocht festival.

Twelve plays will be performed at this year’s festival on Monday March 9, with local schools at both primary and secondary level taking part.

The festival gives students the opportunity to act, gain confidence and have fun all as Gaeilge.

Schools partaking in this year’s festival include Kilsaran

National School, St. Joseph’s Muirvenamor, St. Patrick’s Kilcurry, Bellurgan National School, Gaelscoil Dhún Dealgan, St. Mary’s College Dundalk, St. Vincent’s Dundalk, Coláiste Rís and Coláiste Lú.

Winners at the competition will go on to represent the region in Féile Laighean / the Leinster Provincial Festival.

An Cumann Scoildrámaíochta was first established in 1934 and is now over 80 years old with thousands of students from throughout the country taking

part each year. The Dundalk festival was reformed last year after a gap of a number of years and its popularity has grown rapidly with great interest shown from local schools.

This year’s event will be held in DkIT’s Mac Anna theatre on Monday March 9 from 9am to 4pm, as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge in the town.

A cold, windy and mucky Mill Road set the stage for Dundalk Sharks U11 v Naas RFC U11.

Blackstone Motors win double at Irish Motor Industry Awards

Renault and Dacia main dealer Blackstone Motors Ltd based in New Grange Business Park, Donore Road, Drogheda, Co. Louth has been named both the ‘Franchised Sales Operation of the Year’ and ‘Franchised Aftersales Operation of the Year’ at the SIMI Irish Motor Industry Awards. The accolade was announced in front of over 700 of the motor Industry’s senior figures at a glittering ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Dublin.

The awards honoured those businesses that have demonstrated excellence and best practice in their business sector.

Blackstone Motors Ltd picked up the two awards, which were presented by James Brooks President of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) and Pat Creed, Managing Director of Bank of Ireland Finance.

Backed by the SIMI, the official voice of the Motor Industry in Ireland, the awards are held in partnership with Bank of Ireland Finance and are open to 600 Franchised Dealers in the country.

Renault franchise in September 2008 when they were located in small premises on the Dublin road in Drogheda. At that time the company employed 6 staff and the start of one of the worst recessions was about to begin.

By the end of 2010 Renault recognised the quality of Blackstone Motors and decided to promote them to Regional Dealer for the North East Region of Ireland. In 2011 the company relocated to new premises at Newgrange Business Park, Donore Road, Drogheda.

This relocation was badly

needed as the business was now growing and needed the facility to support the growth. Both Directors of Blackstone Motors invested heavily in the business to give the after-sales team the best equipped service & parts department available.

By the end of 2011 the company employed 15 staff.

In 2012 The Irish Independent ran an article commending Blackstone Motors on their courage to work through difficult economic conditions and relocate to bigger better premises.

After two years in their new

premises the business was now gathering momentum in all areas of the dealership. Renault Ireland launched Dacia its sister brand in Ireland and this brought an extra source of business in.

In 2013 after a year working with the new brand Blackstone Motors was awarded “National Dacia Territory of the Year” by Renault Dacia Ireland.

By 2014 Blackstone Motors was generating performances for Renault & Dacia far in excess of national averages. This was recognised by Renault Dacia Ireland when they awarded Blackstone Motors “National Renault & Dacia After-Sales Dealer of the Year”.
