Dundalk jockey hits the big time By Paul Byrne
A Dundalk jockey is the new sensation of the horse-racing world after his performances in the saddle have brought him to the attention of some of the biggest organisations in racing. Shane Gray, who is just 18, hit the headlines last week when he rode three winners at Lingfield, which consolidated his position as leading apprentice jockey on the flat in England. The young man from from Cedarwood Park in Cox’s Demesne has made a significant impact in England since moving to Kevin Ryan’s stable last year and aside from being the leading apprentice, he has come to the attention of the top names in recent months having ridden winners for Qatar Racing and Godolphin, two of the biggest organisations in racing. Shane’s talent for riding is definitely in the genes as his older brother, Stephen, is also a jockey based in Edward O’Grady’s yard in Tipperary. The 27-year-old has experienced one

Lisa is chasing dream job By Tamara O’Connell DUNDALK woman Lisa Casey is one of five contestants competing for the chance to win her dream job. The 24-year-old aspiring comedian from Ard Easmuinn has reached the final in this year’s Budweiser Dream Job competition. “I’ve always loved comedy but it took me a couple of years to build up the courage to do stand-up”, said Lisa. “It was very hard to get gigs when I first started out but I kept working at it. I try to be a bit different and work hard at it.” The former St Louis student has already won an equipment bursary of €2,000 and she is also in with the chance to win a €50,000 prize fund to pursue her dream job.
